I don’t eat many, but the roughage can make me visit the bathroom more.

I'm not sure about DS patients, specifically, but I know that leafy greens can be difficult for a lot of people after WLS.

I gained about 60 pounds back about 7 years out. It didn't happen all at once, but gradually over time. I had a couple of knee surgeries and I stopped exercising as much. Over the last 2 years my lifestyle changed again and I started moving more in general and walking with friends. I lost the 60 pounds I had put back and another ten pounds as well without really trying to lose weight.
You have to be gentle with yourself and forgive yourself if your weight fluctuates. We can be our own worst enemy if we beat ourselves up too much.

No need to have food funerals. You'll be able to eat your favorites after you heal, just in smaller portions. Just try to keep your sugar and carbs low and your Protein high.

I had the traditional DS and take 3 Vitamins a day,(calcium, ADEK, B12), and my blood panel is great. I'm three years post-op and have only regained 5 pounds. I've never been able to control my weight and not feel deprived, but the DS has solved that problem. My BMI was only 40 when I had my surgery.

Had my surgery on Feb 13th 2020. And ever since surgery my poo and farts are 10x more stinky. And I fart 10x as much as I used to. And my poo looks like a really light colored clay. Lol 🤭

Poo-pourri has worked wonders but for me the oil slicks that sometimes appear are a real annoyance more when i'm out than at home when I can clean up after myself. My gas is something my wife and I are both getting used to. I seemed to have trained my body to not have to fart while at work - but I feel bad for those I crop dust on the streets of NYC as soon as I leave the office. Night time is really when all hell breaks loose. The oil slick doesn't happen nearly as often but it's obviously totally dependent on what I eat, but the gas is always bad.

Hi all, I'm new here! After 7 months of waiting, I found out last week that my insurance has approved and I meet with my surgeon on March 10. Hoping my surgery date will be some time in early April! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it!

I had a BMI of 40 and had a Modified DS. Just hit 6 months in and my BMI is down to 27 and I'm down 80 lbs. I had a lapband before for 4 years and lived without it for about 4 years before I had the DS done. My thing was is I have major knee issues so cardio to work out is impossible. Sometimes I can barely walk. I lost 165 lbs when I had the lapband, my surgeon knew I'd do well with the DS.

I worry with your current weight you will be too slim to be a candidate for bypass. Only your doctor would know. I had the band for a few years and also had issues with certain foods I couldn't eat. You were very successful with the band, and not everyone is. I wasn't. In fact, I gained 20 pounds with the band and had pain when eating foods like chicken, carrots, or anything firm. I had to revise to the duodenal switch for my body to respond in a healthy way. Now I can eat healthy foods without pain, and I've lost 82 pounds. I was revised in 2017.

Strivingforbetter got a reaction from pssk in Do you think 49 is too old for plastic surgery?
Oh hell no! I'm 57 and just had a Tummy Tuck on December 11, 2019. I've had 4 c-sections, one incisional hernia after my third c-section, and lost 80 pounds. My stomach was a mess and a huge, hanging blob. I am absolutely loving my flat stomach. I've got a lot of living yet to do and when my children get married, I'm not going to have to shop for some frumpy mother of the bride dress to hide my hideous gut. Go for it!

I also received a Tummy Tuck with Lipo suction to my flanks (love handles) on Dec. 11, 2019. I'm doing well. The first week was rough. So much pain! In the past, had four c-sections and by the third day I was off all pain meds. --Not with this surgery! However, I'm very satisfied with the results and feel after losing 80 pounds that this was very needed.

Strivingforbetter got a reaction from Silvernova in Has anyone kept their surgery a secret?
This has been widely discussed on this site, and you'll find that people have strong opinions for either keeping it a secret or telling all. I personally have kept my surgery private. Only my husband and children know. I don't feel obligated to tell anyone my personal medical history. I wouldn't expect someone to tell me they had a vasectomy. It's none of my business. I've changed my eating habits, so I tell them what my diet consists of but leave it at that. Too many people want to criticize another person for his/her life decisions, and I don't have time for that. I'm focusing on being positive and healthy and don't need the drama, especially at work.

I had my lapband placed when I was 54.
Next Tuesday I'm getting a Tummy Tuck. I just turned 60.
Is that too late? Who cares? I want to live the rest of my life in a body that makes me feel good and healthy. I cannot wait to have a flat, toned tummy.

Why bother after age 40? Who are these people?

I’m in my early 40’s & I’m planning plastics at the end of this year.

Considering my grandmother is 93 and still going strong, it’s likely I’m not even middle age yet.
