put this way, i'll have to say i did notice some unexpected body composition changes in the year immediately following rapid weight loss:
- went from looking deathly skeletor-ish (gaunt and drawn and frail looking) to pretty healthy looking despite weighing less now than those skeleton days.
- my hair is actually thicker and "healthier" and even slightly curlier than even before surgery (which was a very welcome surprise after all that Hair loss from months 4-6 post op omg)
- i don't get pimples anymore. like ever.
- those weird dark little bumps on my upper arms are gone.
- when i do any sort of sustained exercise it's immediately noticeable. for instance if i do like 30 situps or 60 bicep curls i look shredded right after. no joke.
- my dentist says my gums have receeded faster than expected since the weight loss (dunno if this is related or a coincidence??)
- despite probably being the most "fit" i have ever been since my 20's, i still feel unbelievably weak compared to my heaviest days. i swear i can't open jars anymore nor can i carry multiple bags or groceries at once like i used to.
- i used to be bottom heavy (hips/butt was my widest part) now i am top heavy (shoulders/back are my widest part).
- i no longer have armpit hair ...but this is likely due to my arm lift? so i never have to shave there...which has the side benefit of the skin lightening up in that area...no more dark armpits for me! yay!
- i have no ass. like zero. looking at me directly from behind is semi-normal looking, but from a side view, its a straight line from the base of my neck to my knees.
- the hump on the back of my neck is gone
- not sure if this is related to my overall weakness, or because i just do wat more stuff now, or im just getting old, or a combination of it all, but i get injured ALOT. multiple sprains, torn ligaments, torn muscles, pinched nerves, tendonitis like everywhere, abdominal hernia, bruised ribs, carpel tunnel, ingrown toenails, omg. ive had more doctors/physio appts in the last 5 years than i've had in my entire life. times 2.
ok...this post is getting too long. gonna stop now lol
I used to be top heavy but now I’m bottom heavy! This is in part due to plastics but some is definitely just the way my body decided to redistribute fat because it started before plastics.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels like this shifts the blame back to the patient’s lack of commitment to exercise!

14 hours ago, ms.sss said:well that's interesting...was not aware (nor experienced) this myself. assuming the changes are NOT related to exercise or lack therof?
echoing BlondeP...what is different this year from last year for instance???
inquiring minds want to know!
I should have said immediately after losing a lot of excess weight vs when your weight settles. I think immediately post WLS my skin was thinner (in certain areas) but over time it feels thicker again.

Something I didn’t expect were the changes to body composition post op (not the planned body modifications of plastic surgery) I was surprised to see that my body didn’t look the same each year post op. How and where I carried weight fluctuated each year.

In the past battles against obesity, patients often heard the advice to simply increase exercise.
Now researchers are actually quantifying the amount of exercise needed to prevent (and possibly reverse) the disease according to genetic risk factors.
Thoughts? Comments?

Have you spoken with your surgeon about this yet? What did they say?

All my life i've said: “let’s go to Dim Sim”
When I should be saying “let’s Yum Cha”
dim sum is the food, yum cha is the process of going to get said food!
(yep, I googled it…now I’m off to impress family and friends with this newfound knowledge)
I also had no clue it was called yum cha!

18 hours ago, Tomo said:I have too many favorites but the one that popped up in my mind reading your post is probably Hakata ramen (aka Tonkotsu Ramen) from the Fukuoka prefecture, Japan. I also like Singapore noodles which are not for Singapore but interestingly a Cantonese dish. So suffice it say, I can't have my favorite dishes too often lol.
At least it remains special this way!

Today I went on a date to a tea shop and found an amazing quengzhou milk oolong. Very very happy. I decided to make lunch at home instead of dining out (I really wanted to make this tea 😂)
Penne Arrabbiata (not mine) and vegetable gyoza w/dipping sauce (mine)

I am having a Tummy Tuck and skinny bbl! I dont want to lose anymore weight at this point, but rather get rid of the loose skin on my stomach and perhaps lift up the backside/eliminate some sag there. I go wednesday, so Im starting to get a little anxious about it—i know it will be fine, but am not looking forward to being in recovery for a while. Any advice or tips appreciated.
So many great tips out on the internet, the one I found most helpful is not to prematurely rush recovery with the goal of getting back to normal as soon as possible.
The other is to be very specific with your surgeon about your expectations and make sure they align. Especially if you get to chat again during preop.
For instance instead of saying I just want my loose skin gone, it’s helpful to say I want to be as flat/tight/contoured as possible. -

Congratulations and speedy recovery ❤️

greens, cucumber, avocado, cherry tomatoes, leftover roast chicken, homemade vinaigrette and seasonings.
285 calories, shared with Mr., estimating i ate maybe 2/3 of it.

this fine looking salad i prepared for lunch. greens, cucumbers, tomatoes, avocado, feta cheese, broccoli, mushrooms and the fried up leftover Protein from earlier.
logged as 503 calories for the whole thing.
i ate...nothing (yet).
as often happens, the excitement of eating and prep has waned by the time i was done, and now i no longer feel like eating it. i'll want it later fo sure tho! so for now it will wait for me patiently in the fridge
Very colorful salads 😍

The only encouragement I can offer is that the GLP-1 meds work well. Check your insurance coverage. If it doesn’t cover Mounjaro, request Zepbound (same med-different market, diabetes vs obesity) and down load the coupon. Alternatively don’t forget to check out the new GLP-1 section here on this site.

Not everyone can do this and I fully acknowledge and never suggest this especially for people in the beginning. It just doesn’t work for everyone.
Yes I eat Cookies. But my cookie path is very narrow. I don’t like soft, iced, stuffed, loaded or kitchen sink cookies. I like biscuits, wafers and thins, etc.
As for bread, I knew very early that I would not give it up completely. I do eat regular types (baguettes, ciabattas, Bagels, croissants, etc) but often low or zero carb breads for balance. Also to be noted, I maintain a higher weight. It’s the trade off.

I have been consumed with all things High school these days. My teen’s prom was this weekend and of course she couldn’t make up her mind on a dress. By the time she decided everything was either sold out, not in her size or would take too long to ship. She asked me to make the dress. Here’s the reference and the final product.
