    Disturbing Realization

I do not have food addiction issues, so that battle I did not have to fight. I think society pushes us to believe in a one answer approach to solve ALL of our problems immediately and finally (if this blank happens ... then I will finally be happy/perfect - constantly leveling up) instead of a holistic approach (multiple goals adding to a full life- adding to a simmering pot) . So I decide to embark on a holistic approach which involved mental health care (along with other goals/things) as a part of overall my selfcare plan (whether I believed I needed it or not). I figured they ask you to see a psychologist for a reason, so I continued to explore that option. I hope if its available to you, you may explore it as well.

    How about Dates?

Dates are a dried fruits, if you can have dried fruits at this point on your plan, like raisins, prunes etc, try but consult your NUT or team first. Even just an email. Its important to be certain to have a good working knowledge of what you can and can't generally have at every stage laid out ahead of time. This you should demand from them if they are not providing it. This site is great for socialization but medical advice (nutrition after wls is medical advice don't let anyone tell you otherwise) should come from a physician.

    SO ANNOYED!

Your surgeon (who is also a person) may need time to: sleep in from working the graveyard shift (being the on call physician), pay his/her bills, spend time with his/her family (so the job is actually worth it), perform other surgeries, check on other patients, eat lunch, use the rest room, do a yoga session to deal with a stressful job, have office hours, attend conferences, wait his/her turn for OR time, lecture, meet with his/her boss, or even visit his/her own doctor for a wellness check up. (Just a little perspective) Safe Journey, CONGRATS!!!

    Choosing between bypass and sleeve

I chose the VSG over the RNY because I already had vitamin and mineral deficiency issues that I absolutely without a doubt knew would be exacerbated had I gone with RNY. Other than that all thing were equal for me because I had no previous history of GERD. If GERD or any other issues occur I will convert to DS or RNY. Speed or rate of loss wasn't a factor and the stats are about the same at 5-10yrs out with both surgeries. Ask your Team which they have seen the best outcomes with in their practice and why for a bit more info. Safe Journey!

    Sweet potatoes

They were on my plan since stage 2, I don't eat them often like once every month if that (because everything in moderation, right)I eat legumes more often, I'm only 9 months out but at a year out I can't imagine any vegetables being off limits, especially in moderation. Its not the same as a white potato after all, but consult your NUT to be certain. They do push the protein first then vegetables carbs last motto so by that standard you really can't have a ton.
  16. Your body dictates exactly how much you lose, no way around it. You can *help* by: Hydrating properly Taking vitamins, minerals and fiber Getting adequate protein Exercising a little Following your plan closely Stressing less Safe Journey!!!

Can you guys give me some advice?

Honestly, its really up to you. Personally I would not (seems pricey too), I only shop at stores I can return items to. Early out I found I had to rotate things often because i lost tolerance or desire for them so I could not by bulk of anything. If you think you'll still love them by the end of the month, its your $$$. Have you tried them before?

No Immune system 5 years post Op

Hi there, How often do you see your bariatric team and primary doctor? How often do you take antibiotics? There could be a number of things in play but only medical practitioners can diagnosis. You may need pre and probiotics as suggested but also have a look: https://msutoday.msu.edu/news/2009/msu-professor-studies-links-between-gastric-bypass-immune-system/ Do your own research, Check in with your physicians and ask them to run more extensive testing. Safe journey!

    Diet without surgery?

I don't know if it will work for you but this is the sample diet of a person 1 year post op. The challenge for you will be to stick to it with very little incentive , I was nervous about surgery and anesthesia too, had surgery anyway, amazing choice for me. Good luck!

    Intermittent Fasting

Maybe different for different people, but I've been doing something similar for a while (unknowingly) where I just don't eat until midday, only eat within a few select hours span, then back to fasting. I've done a much more coherent effort for the last two days, I'm fine.

    Neri's Journey thus far

Thanks for sharing your story, i hope you stick around and continue to work towards your all of your goals. I also hope you (and everyone) will continue to seek mental health services throughout your journey because as you will read frequently, the mental part is very instrumental in overall success or struggles after surgery. Losing weight may just be one element in the compound of happiness. Safe Journey!!!

When did you start losing hair?

Google Telogen Effluvium and WLS for some common stories, info etc. Its going to vary widely but usually not immediately after surgery, it takes a few weeks to months to manifest, if its going to happen. Safe Journey!!!
