If that's all she said, I think it's pretty clear it was a compliment. Basically saying you don't look super fat.
If she lectured you on it or tried to talk you out of it that's a different story.
I work in a hospital that does thousands of bariatric surgeries a year and it's incredibly common for staff to say wow how's that person qualify or they're not that big. They're not insults, it's people saying they don't think you're fat.
If someone trys talking you out of it or belittles you that's different

Ive had hard liquor but not wine.
But from my experience I think liquor would be easier.
Trying to drink something with too much volume (ie wine, beer) would just bother your tummy and you wouldnt get buzzed since you cant have the volume.
Of course everybodys experiences are different

Around 2 months post op I had a drink, it didnt effect me any differently.
That said I didnt really enjoy it, and I found it very filling.

But a calorie is a calorie, and full fat foods are much MUCH higher in calories, it's also the most calorically dense macro nutrient, more calories than the other 2 combined.
I know this threads from several months ago, but I've found a great deal of success and enjoyment in going as lean as I can. Lean meat is definitely harder to cook, but if you cook it right it's so much healthier while being tasty

If you find a surgeon willing to put a lap band in you, you probably have a bad surgeon.
Only in rare cases are they done anymore

I'm also a dieting "pro". My bmi was 35.
This has made it a million times easier to lose weight without hunger pains or needing to cheat or anything I'm only roughly 6 months out but I went from 5'10 245 to 166 in that time period. By the end of May I'll be the lightest I've been since I was a teenager.
Could I have lost the weight, yes totally I've done it before (although soon I'll be in uncharted waters). Could I have kept it off? Almost certainly not. And would I constantly have been hungry miserable and forced to cheat or turn to weight loss products probably.
The surgery has turned my cycle of horrible yoyoing into something long term and sustainable while allowing me to enjoy my quality of life instead of being miserable and hungry.

    Of course not
The surgery itself helps you lose weight
Although I think someone who can lose weight pre-surgery would have an easier time, I imagine both have success.
I also think the people who can lose weight easier presurgery, are probably mostly typically younger and healthier in general.
But the whole point of the surgery is to make it easier to lose and maintain weight, so anyone would benefit

Mhy12784 got a reaction from SusieSouth in Lapband surgery after VSG?
I work in one of the higher volume surgical practices for bariatrics in NY and I dont think ive ever seen a band over a sleeve. Even band over bypasses which are possible, are quite rare (ive done maybe 4 or 5 in 5 years)
As someone who works in bariatric surgery and is a patient, I would never in a million years want a band over a sleeve. One is its not very effective, and two is theres so many problems with the band that its just an absolutely horrible idea.
A band over a bypass is at least something I would consider a feasible option.
But the data is pretty strong that unless a procedure was done wrong (which usually isnt the case) or you are having real problems from a surgery (ie horrible GERD after a sleeve) then the odds are a second surgery isnt going to make a huge difference.
That said if I had a VSG (which I do) and I needed to do something else. Converting to a bypass is the only option I would even consider. Yes the bypass is scary which is why your first option should be consulting a nutritionist and therapist, possibly even frequently. But if revisional surgery is the way things need to go, then converting to bypass is really the only option.
Also converting a VSG to a bypass is actually easier than going from nothing to a bypass for most surgeons. And I guess having a VSG first will make the transition and experience a little easier.

Which is the Protein powder you use from the surgeons office ?

And an easy way to check is to just get some cheap lactose free pills and take a couple of them prior to your Protein Shake and see if anything happens. This is actually how a physician recommended i figure out if i was lactose intolerant years ago (well they suggested i use icecream instead of a protein shake, but same concept)

Mhy12784 got a reaction from Frustr8 in TMI but need advice...
Yes lactase pills are designed to take with dairy allowing it to not make you sick. Lactaid is the common brand, but the generic ones are the exact same thing.
I recommend taking a slightly higher dose than whatever the box says as they don't always work very well (it's not medicine it's a digestive enzyme so it doesn't hurt)

OR nurse here, happens all the time. Most patients are younger females, so I'd say I get patients with this issue at least once a day, completely non issue.
Most hospitals will let you keep your underwear and a pad on no problem

That very much depends on what you cheat with.
French fries or something sure, youll be limited.
But a milk shake or something rich and decadent. Or even candy and you can still screw yourself a bit. I mean you wont be eating 4,000 calorie meals anytime soon, but 1000 + calories in a sitting is very possible if you pick the right wrong stuff.
That said youd have to make some terrible decisions

    Depends on the person
Some people can eat a cheat meal and go back to doing the right things the right way. Thats fine.
Some people can eat a cheat meal and be like an alcoholic having one drink, and spiral out of control into a path of addiction and destruction.
Obviously only one of those people "can" have a cheat meal.

Mhy12784 got a reaction from jess9395 in Genepro
I don't know your background with research and science. But if you read the label it has two ** next to that. And it says according to this study. If you pull up that study (which is the basis of their ridiculous claims) on genepros website. You'll first see the study was paid for by... Genepro! (shocker). And then if you read the actual study (which is posted on their website) you'll see that it's extremely poorly designed, and I do not believe comes even remotely close to supporting their claim.
So if your surgeon said it's fine odds are he just blew you off not wanting to waste his time reading the label on a Protein Shake (and I can't blame them because what kind of surgeon is going to spend their times reading their patients labels and studys)
But all you have to do is read it and say hmm does this look like a well designed study? Now I'm no researcher or statistician myself, but I am comfortable attempting to read a study and look for relationships and make inferences about probability. And this does not look like it proves their point. And I don't think anybody should be defending GENEPRO unless they
    A) read the label, which clearly states what they're basing their claims on
    B ) read the study
It's pretty clear to me that it's not worth it. This isn't to suggest Genepro is bad, because the odds are as a protein supplement itself it's likely the same as any other. The problem I see is that its very likely that it's not supplying remotely close to the amount of Protein that you think it is. If you're dead set on taking genepro you should probably be taking close to double doses to be getting close to as much is listed on the label.

Mhy12784 got a reaction from cbf in Are there other diabetics in here who have to take an A1c
Yes there's also worse things than delaying or canceling a surgery. Like getting hit by an Asteroid.
The fact is if you have a documented record of your a1c on paper and anything bad happens it's a clear cut case of negligent behavior by the surgical team, and opens the door to liability and lawsuits by the hospital and surgical team as well as them eating the cost of any complications. Why they would proceed without during their due diligence is beyond me.
And you've made it blatantly clear that you haven't cleaned up your diet at all so that your BMI still qualifies.
You can eat lots of calories without eating garbage allowing your blood sugar to go all over the place. Complex carbohydrates, nuts fats less lean meats coconut/dairy cream are all high in calories allowing you to maintain your weight without spiking your blood sugar up and down.
But it sounds like that's not the answer you want to hear.
Why your surgical team hasn't addressed it is beyond me. It's possible they don't give a ****, it's possible they're unorganized, it's possible they didn't look at it because your PCP did the lab work, or it's possible that it's something they won't address until the last minute.
You have two choices. Address the issue, or continue to try to convince people on the internet that it's not a big deal and roll the dice with whatever happens

Mhy12784 got a reaction from 7Michelle7 in Question about hiatal hernia
I had a sleeve and a hiatal hernia repair and the pain was borderline non existent. I was in the hospital for a few days because of complications from anesthesia so I had the luxury of being on the good stuff for pain, but even after discharge it wasn't bad at all. I have no idea why people would think the hiatal hernia is brutally painful, it takes a surgeon 5 minutes and 1-2 sutures.

Honestly gas pains (from having laparscopic surgery) is probably the most painful and uncomfortable part of the entire situation. You'll have discomfort from going to standing to sitting and vice versa but that's about it
