MacNZ got a reaction from southernbellair79 in Sleeved Yesterday 7/19 - having trouble!!
I am on day 3 after the sleeve. Day 2 was pretty tough with spasms when drinking, but after some meds it settled down. Still feel tight and uncomfortable, but today was a lot better than yesterday, and I hope tomorrow will be better still.
I had a "hot sweat" yesterday when I had my first bit of yoghurt.. I think I had just drank before, or possibly after, so that's why. Wasn't pleasant, and wont be making that mistake again. 30min!
Hope everyone else is going well and getting better!

MacNZ got a reaction from TKnDC in Apnea & Gastric Sleeve??
I have fairly severe sleep apnea and had the sleeve done 3 days ago.. it was no problem. I use a machine, and brought it with me. The anesthetist made a note of it, and actually I think it made me sleep better afterwards too. They give you breathing exercises afterwards to keep your lungs clear and said that the machine actually helps a lot.
You'll be fine.

MacNZ got a reaction from DK in Apnea & Gastric Sleeve??
I was told this too... that sleep apnea causes raised levels of cortisol in your body (stress hormone) which causes your body to accumulate fat. I was told I would probably lose quite a bit after just going onto the machine.
Didn't help thaaat much, and I ended up gaining more over time anyway. I know a few people whose sleep apnea has gone completely after surgery... fingers crossed!

MacNZ got a reaction from graziellabs in 3 days to go .. but I am constipated and been sick all week with a bad cold .. argh!
So.. appreciate any suggestions.. my op is scheduled Monday 24th and I have been on my pre-op diet of Optifast from the 10th.. so on day 11. Was hard for a few days then got easier. Lost about 5 kgs (11 lbs) quickly.. then it all got hard this last week.
First I caught a nasty cold going around and finally ended up visiting my GP on Wed and got an antibiotic to try and prevent any secondary chest infection. Took heaps of pain killers etc which stopped up my stomach now for 5 days.
Heck.
Saw my GP yesterday again who said I should be "ok" for Monday since my lungs are fairly clear (although I have been coughing so much my ribs hurt).. so hopefully that's ok.. but I am now worried about arriving at surgery looking like a big bloated animal with a weeks worth of Protein Shakes backed up inside ...
Dang why don't they put lots of fibre in this Protein Drinks?
I have tried Metamucil .. did squat.. now trying Senokot.. fingers crossed.. failing that I can see myself try suppositories over the weekend for the first time in my life..!
Should I be worried.. or am I sweating the small stuff?

MacNZ got a reaction from FAT TWO FABULOUS in July
Is anyone else "eating liberally" prior to starting their pre-op diet?
Or is it just me ?

You can definitely do it. I weighed 400 pounds when I started, and I am 9 pounds away from a normal BMI! The sky is the limit.

MacNZ reacted to Navigating the Wilderness in Questions about bariatric surgery
To answer your first question, it was an overnight stay. No big deal.
As for after care, there was none except for regularly scheduled follow-ups with the surgeon. I was a little sore for a day or two, had some diaphram spasms and one of my incisions got infected which took some time heal, but overall it was nothing I wouldn't go through again in a heartbeat. Yes you will be on Vitamins for the rest of your life, but for me the vitamins replaced meds for diabetes and high blood pressure. It's a big step and an important decision which requires preparation and commitment, but there is no way I'd ever want to go back to how I was before the sleeve.
