globaljuju reacted to CarlLondon in Just Had DS - feel no different.
Hi I have had DS REVISION surgery.
I had a SADI which failed and i found i could literally eat whatever i want without any symptoms and weight rocketed. I visited my surgeon who understands that if all it took was a change of diet nobody would need WLS.
I explained to him that I need something which, if i ate the wrong foods (either accidentally or by being gutty), something would give me a kick up the jacksy and remind me not to do it again.
So he recommended the DS and advised, should I "test the waters" i will be on the loo within 30 mins and this will happen every time i do. Obviously im not planning to be naughty, but I was told the same thing with the SADI and that failed and before long I was back on the Mars Bars and KFC.
I don't want that with the DS but i also need to know it's worked.
I had the DS on Monday.
As the operation didn't physically touch or reduce the size of the stomach, i am only on a weeks puree food before being allowed normal stuff slowly introduced, but don't have to follow the 6 stage plan.
However nothing i have tried so far has given even the slightest twinge and bowel movements have been been exactly the same as before the op (although the chalky green stuff is coming out now), but it's no more frequent and is actually more solid than before.
I am aware it's only ben a few days and it's probably much too early for this post, but just wondering if anyone else has had revision surgery and has had no effects from the DS.

    C.

I had my sleeve Dec. 2012. Lost 120ish LBS, gained about 60 LBS of that back. I am now almost 2 mons out from conversion/revision to SIPS/SADI/LOOP. So far I'm doing good. I'm not sure how much I actually weigh at the moment or how much I lost. This time I'm only getting on the scale at any of my drs/nut appointments, I can say I went from a 4x/5x to a 2x.

I have four family members who had Bypass and have all gained back a good amount of their weight. I had the DS three years ago and have had no regain at all. Also I only watch my diet, I do not exercise.

Can I ask what are the extra risks? I have the SIPS DS, not the traditional but am curious as to what extra risks are on your list? All surgeries come with risk, the choice is yours as to which you're willing to take.

To be fair, Dr. Illian didn't want to do my DS because I was not very overweight. He said it would be too drastic for me. Which the traditional DS probably would be, but I think the SADI/SIPS would be less drastic. Even so, I don't think he was really doing them Then, but I'm sure he could. He is a very talented surgeon. And also works weekly as a trauma Surgeon, which I oils imagine keeps his skills very sharp!

Wow. Your story seems similar to mine. I chickened out of the DS at the last minute, and now wish I hadn't. You'll be fine, as so many others here have been . Best of luck to you! Please do keep us updated. I am going to give it one more year and then reevaluate.

I won't mince words: the duodenal switch is a grossly inappropriate procedure for someone who weighs 165 pounds with only 30 more pounds to lose.
It is typically reserved for super mordibly obese people (BMI of 50 or greater) with severe metabolic issues (e.g. longstanding diabetes, PCOS). I would question the judgment and ethics of a bariatric surgeon who would perform a duodenal switch on someone who's only 30 pounds overweight.

When I got a DS I was almost 300lbs - and that was considered to be on the lighter side to get something so hard core. I don't think you should do this. I think if you just do a "reset" (talk to a Bariatric nutritionist about this) you will be fine.

Yes, mine certainly has been slow. I had a revision of the sleeve & conversion to a single-anastomosis duodenal switch on December 29, 2015. I had gained about 15 pounds from my low weight after the sleeve & did lose 11 pounds before the revision surgery. I am down about 13-14 pounds since day of surgery, most of that in the first two weeks or so. Since then my weight has fluctuated a couple of pounds. At one point I had gained about 4 pounds but that has now come off by doing just Protein Shakes for 3 days.

It is not considered experimental any longer and hasn't for at least the past year and half to two years. There are actually several well documented papers from Europe in France and Spain where the procedure was introduced. My particular doctor has been perfoming the SADI for over two years with great sucess. It is safer than the traditional DS in several aspects and I do not suffer the side effects of diarehea or gas that most DS patients complain about. While the actual surgery only dates pack to about 2008 the results have been very positive, which is what is important. In medicine it is always about improving the procedures for safety while obtaining the best results. It is just another stepping stone in improving WLS from the old days of stomach stapling.

I have only lost and kept off a total of 17 pounds on the sleeve (out of 51). I work out and eat meticulously. I'm converting to the DS (sadi-s) next month. I figure I'm halfway there already. The sleeve is turning out to not have such great long-term success. I am reading about lots of failures, and I for that profile to the t. Wish I had just done the DS the first time.

How to lose 206 calories a day without even trying Eliza Cracknell bodyandsoul.com.au Such a simple game changer.

We're often told it's the small tweaks that can help us reach our weight loss goals faster, and for the naysayers this new study might sway your opinion.
The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign has discovered a way for you to consume 206 fewer calories a day. It mightn't sound like a lot but according to the Pennington Biomedical Research Center weight loss predictor, that's just over half a kilo a month.
All you have to do? Drink three extra glasses of Water a day.
Researchers surveyed 18,000 people about what they ate over two days and they found those who drank more Water consumed fewer calories. Easy, hey?
Besides from the obvious perk of being a much healthier choice than sugary drinks, researchers say water can make you feel less hungry, causing you to eat less.
In the study, participants drank on average 4.2 cups of water per day with a lower total calorie intake was calculated for those who had more than this.
The study suggests one extra cup could see you cut 69 calories from your day, 137 calories with two extra cups, while three extra cups will help you trim 206 calories.
    Conclusion? Drink up.

If this is a surgeon that wants you to come have surgery with him, you have to take his opinion with a grain of salt.
Have you been back to the surgeon who did your surgery the first time? Is that Dr in the US or Mexico?
I would go to the DS honestly if the Sleeve wasn't working for me.
