Long2BFree reacted to Donna Cozy in Worried for my mom
Boy, you're right about that. My mom had this done because apparently Rosie O'Donnell raved about it on TV. I wish that the Dr's would go into more detail about what "COULD" go wrong and how serious it could be if it does. My mom almost lost her life and literally lost a whole season while she was in the hospital. She went in with an overnight bag in June, thinking she'd be home the next day, and ended up coming back home in time to spend Thanksgiving with family. And thankful we were! Well, another blessing is that today is day FIVE without food coming back up. Hopefully she keeps moving in this direction. Thank you for your input Nancy.

I'm sorry she is struggling so much. Unfortunately this new way of eating is a complete lifestyle change and she needs to try and adjust. WLS is not the easy way out like so many make it out to be.

    To Jane13,
I’m doing okay today. I am full as a tick, but I am getting more Protein in. I tried a stage 1 baby food Peaches and added ½ scoop of Protein powder to it. Um…not too bad.
No wonder I am full. I just re-read postop diet instructions and it says meals should not exceed ¾-1 cup initially. When I was on liquids I just seemed to be sipping all day. I am still on liquids, but I have added baby food stage 1 and cream Soup. I still like the wonton broth best.
I just realized I haven’t done a number 2 for over a week, so I’ll have to see what my doctor wants me to do.
    To Long2BeFree,
I never thought about an issue with Protein absorption. I looked through all my papers and found something in my discharge sheets from the hospital. It says:
Full liquid Foods (1/4 c. total per meal)
    · Protein-rich liquids (limit added protein powder to 25-30 grams per serving)

I’ll have to ask the doctor or nutritionist for more details about this, but thanks for letting me know. Plus it made me look back through my discharge information. I didn’t know there was a ¼c. limit! My Premier Protein is 11 oz just to get my 30 grams of protein in.

Long2BFree got a reaction from MinaT in Band Revison to Sleeve, Bypass, or not at all? Advice Please!
I got my band removed in December 2015 and am revising to RNY the end of the month. Due to the extreme GERD and esophageul spasms, I was not a candidate. I know a gal who is 6 weeks post op with the Sleeve and she's having horrible GERD. Sadly, she will probably have to revise to RNY.

I understand the military mentality, I totally agree that the military should and need to be fit. I've worked on the same military installation for 30+ years and a military spouse for 31 years. I've worked many jobs where I was the only civilian (and female) and have heard the fitness, weight talks, etc that are given to the troops. My boss is former military. The nutritionist I see is a civilian.

I had complications with my band after having it 7 years and had to get it removed. The surgery to remove it was difficult due to lots of scar tissue. I've gained 40 of the 100# I lost and I'm at 260 now. I'm working towards getting a revision...taking the steps to check all the boxes.
When I bring goodies in I make sure I let each individual know they are for everyone. When the supervisor brings the stuff in he sets them on one person's desk and says I brought this for you and so and so, meaning the 2 people who sit together.
I'll get over it, I've just been feeling the need to externalize.

I started a new job 3 months ago and work in an office with military and civilians. There are 6 of us in the office with management having their own office and the other 4 of us have cubicles in one large office My boss frequently brings in sweets from home and sits them on the desk on the other side of the room where the skinny military guys sit. Meanwhile, myself and another military guy (who struggles with his weight) sit on the other side of the room. Never has the boss offered us any of the stuff when he brings it in. I would not eat any of it if offered because I'm self conscious but I just think it's rude and quite frankly it hurts my feelings to be excluded.
I also saw the nutritionist earlier this week and she asked me why I don't just stop eating? Because I'm hungry. I wanted to ask her if she thought I liked being fat and discriminated against. My mom also says the same stuff. I finally realized that I've been passed over for promotions because of my weight. I've always accepted people for who they are and not what they look like or who they know. It just sucks to be treated a certain way.
Sorry for the pity party, it's been a long, tiring week.

Long2BFree got a reaction from Leepers in Getting My Band Out Due to Spasms in Esophagas
I'm getting my band out on Dec 22 due to having complications. I ended up going to a different bariatric doctor because the doctor who placed the band never un-fill me when I would see him. I had constant acid reflux for a couple of years, no matter what time of the day it was and whether I ate or not. I complained to my primary care doctor and he gave me Nexium. That still didn't work and I wasn't sleeping. I finally told my doctor that I wanted further tests because I was scared of getting cancer of the esophagus front the acid. He finally mentioned that there was a bariatric center in my town (that I wasn't aware of) and referred me. I got an appointment where the doctor unfilled me and and then I went back every couple of weeks to try and get my fill right. The acid reflux subsided while I was unfilled but I started get spasms in my esophagus more frequently. I am now getting the band removed on Tuesday and the doctor expects there to be scar tissue, which he will remove. I hope to get a revision to RNY in February or March depending on what I look like inside. I'm afraid that i will be so messed up that he will not recommend I get it done.
I loved my band because it helped me lose 100#. I was never able to get all of my weight off and have since gained 40#. I wish I wouldn't have been so afraid to the the RNY done in the first place. I just hope my insurance will approve the new procedure.

Long2BFree reacted to fuzzyfeline in Seeping pus/staph from sutures that opened up
On May 17 I posted about the pain I was in. Since then I saw my primary who sent me to the emergency room for a CT thinking it was divmetriculosis or my appendix. Ct was clean. Then I was given an ultra sound but that was clean too. By that time I was seeping a yellow liquid from my wound. My primary gave me 10 days of antibiotics. I called my surgeon several times; his nurse gave me an appointment on June 17, 4 weeks from my first phone call about the pain. While the pain has eased up a lot but not altogether though the seepage continues. I see members of the surgical team later this week. Meanwhile, I've been putting on weight. I think that bothers me the most. Thanks for reading this; I just needed to vent.

Long2BFree got a reaction from Pinkgirl1234 in Have Lapband and Want Get GB Revision but Hubby Scared for Me To
I was just able to get filled this past Tuesday since I got unfilled a couple of months ago. It was determined I didn't have a slip so we are going to go with fills to see how I do. I'm on my third day of liquids and start soft foods tomorrow. So far I'm not too hungry so I hope to be able to jump start the weigh loss since I've put on pounds since not being filled. I going try my hardest to make this work but I told hubby that if it doesn't work, then I'm going for the bypass. He's very supportive but the bypass scares him because of the complications we've heard people can have and the death rate, which was the initial reason I decided against it in the first place. I told him there is no way I'm going to live my life as a fat person, and after seeing me gain without a fill in my band made him realize just how hard it is.

Congrats on getting approved! I have horrible GERD too and have to sleep upright and chew Tums like crazy... no fun. I hope I get approved for a revision from Tricare if it comes to that. At one time they said they would only cover one WLS but I guess there have been a lot of issues with the band.

It's not WW itself attacking people who have WLS but the members who follow the plan. I remember thinking that I would never have Gastric Bypass and looked at surgery as a weakness but here I am waiting to get LBS.
Yes, you do get a points allowance based upon on some questions you answer. If you don't use the points within a 24 hour period then you forfeit them. You also get an extra 35 points extra per week to use however you wish.
WW also now has the Core Plan. It's a list of certain food on a list that you eat from. No weighing or measuring foods but you only eat until you are full, not stuffed. A lot of people are successful with it but it always scared me. Once I'm banded I might try Core. You also get 35 points per week to use however you want.
