Just had surgery the 23rd. Hit 10,000 steps a day on day 10. It's more the energy to do more. I really don't have anything left after that. I was fairly active before so I really am looking forward to doctors giving me the green light.

If your doctor called you a "fat pig" RUN- don't walk - to a new doctor. I would never want a doctor to cut me open who treats their patients like that. That's not firm; that's abusive.
I like the firm approach form my doctors. Not mean, but straight to the point without sugar coating anything. However, I would be mortified if my doctor called me a "fat pig."

Everything you've said about relapse and addiction is correct. But in order to have a safe surgery, you need to get the addiction under control before moving to the surgery. The surgery is NOT a cure for addiction. You need to work with a therapist to get control of your eating before surgery.
Relapsing just after surgery can be life threatening.
If a person is unable to stop themselves from overeating soon after surgery, they can die or cause terrible harm to themselves. (and to their surgeon's reputation...which is why your surgeon is being hard on you)
If people are overeating...they are not ready to keep themselves safe.
Listen to your doctor and get control of your eating habits first. You will thank him/her in the long run.
You just posted about having "more food funerals than you could count". I'm guessing that's a significant source of your recent gain.
I agree that addicts should be treated with respect and not shamed. Addiction is tough. That said, one should not enable an addict either.
The best thing to do for an addict...is to have compassion, but to also hold them accountable and not let them make excuses.

You guys, I’m back!!! Took a much needed break from the forums after leaving my abusive ex . I was battling severe depression around April-May & some stemmed from obsessing over my hypochondria . I’m glad to say that almost a year out from VSG(MARCH 13) it’s still the best DECISION I have ever MADE . I eat what I enjoy in smaller portions and I have maintained my weight loss and continue to lose. I have not reached my goal weight of 120 but I’m down nearly 70 pounds. I have had ZERO COMPLICATIONS. god bless you all

I would recommend the Protein Fruit Drinks like grapefruit or orange. I also recommend protein Soups which were quite good. You can get them from the store on this site. Also the protein hot chocolate was yum. I also had a hard time with the Protein Shakes. Good luck!

I'm just too excited for this milestone and I know that you all would understand how major this is. Today when I got on the scale it read 198.8! This is the first time I've been in the 100s since probably high school (but I have no idea what I weighted then). I know in junior high I was 186 and I was probably shorter than I am now so this is a pretty huge success. I've never been able to lose weight like this with all of the different diets and workout plans before. I'm so thankful for the sleeve and that my doctor encouraged me to go forward with it. Since the sleeve my high blood pressure has improved, I was able to get rid of a CPAP machine and my chronic ankle pain from a childhood injury has improved a great deal. My last vacation in December I needed to use an ECV because walking was excruciating. I had another vacation last week that was three times as long and my ankle was sore some days but I was able to keep up and walk the entire time. The entire process has been so motivating and positive I couldn't possibly ask for any more.
I've now lost 112lbs since my highest weight and I'm thrilled. I definitely hope to lose some more, likely about 30-40lbs. Hopefully this will put be in a good goal range and I can focus on maintenance. I'm a little under 7 months from surgery and it feels amazing to actually have my goal weight in sight.

I got to recreate my 'before' picture and I love having the side by side comparison. I even took the same shirt and remade it into a much smaller size!

Still, no one knows I had the surgery. Only about 3 people from work and my family know I had surgery for a hiatal hernia, which I did as well. I only took a week off work and today was my first day back, which has remarkably gone really well. The first person I ran into asked me if I'm slimming down. I told them yes, and it sure isn't easy! She then wanted to know all about the diet Ive been on, which i told her about the shakes and healthy meal each day that I was doing prior to surgery, and will continue with as soon as I am able. Right now people at work just see me drinking my shakes, Water and crystal light, just like prior to surgery. People are commenting that I'm really doing good, which is nice to hear! I am trying hard to make this a success!

Honestly this isn't an easy surgery to go through for anyone.....some heal faster than others and some don't. Some people can get majority of their liquids in and others can't even meet half of their daily intake. It's a mental thing all around. Take longer walks through out the day to get your mind of the pain or just do extra things around the house. If your just moping around then that makes u think more about the negatives. 3 weeks out is a pretty decent time where u should be able to be out and about with friends. And reading your never going to eat your favorite foods again is bs. I know people personally who've had a successful surgery and have dropped over their goal weight and still have cheat days. It's all about you controlling yourself and saying ok I'm full I'm not going to continue eating this. When your able to eat regular foods again, meal prep for the week and then Friday or Saturday have a cheat meal and then get back on your meal prep the next day. Because if you just give up and just binge eat on all the bad foods that got u where u were before the surgery then the surgery was just pointless you know? It's all in your control! Just think of your goal weight and where u want to see yourself! Or even buy an outfit that u want to fit in by next summer and that can be another motivation for u! Don't give up because I'm rooting for you and I know you can do this...be strong for yourself and push through!

I am also in Houston in midtown. We were spared the wind and flood damage that so many are suffering from right now. My heart is breaking for all the displaced families. I have bypass surgery scheduled for Wed at 1:00n and don't know if it will still go fwd that day. I'm sure I'll learn tomorrow. It does seem like a set back but what is important is that we made this decision to improve or health and we are still on that path. Prayers for Texas!!

I appreciate the post. I use it for medicinal purposes (PTSD and EXTREME night terrors) and didn't take back up for awhile but mostly because I had so many complications and didn't even think of it. Smoke chokes me in general so I've done oils and edibles. My biggest issue talking about it is I don't want the scattered whispers or people to not refer patients to me because they fall on the opposed side and have an issue with it.
