mamamc32 got a reaction from FluffyChix in Could Someone 'Splain This To Me?
I had to go through 6 months of classes and also a pre-op meeting where we covered what was supposed to happen post-op. They gave me a big book of information to reference. My surgeon is very, very good but three different surgeons put this book together and some of the information was contradictory. They also gave ranges for when we were supposed to transition to new food stages, but they didn't tell us how to know which part of the range we fit into. Also, the NUT liked to say things like "no carbs" but not give direct answers when I asked things like "how many calories, Protein, carbs, etc. should I be eating?"
If you had everything spelled out for you, I think you were very lucky. I had a lot of good information, but I was definitely missing some important parts. I have an accountant brain, so I like to know specifics.

I seem to be losing about 3 lbs/week right now, so I'm still hopeful I can reach my goal!

I am only a few months post-VSG, but I can already tell I'm going to need skin removal. I'll probably look into a Tummy Tuck, getting the batwings removed, and possibly getting a breast lift/implants. I might need a lower body lift, too, but it's probably going to come down to cost, and I'll end up doing just a couple of the procedures.

Check the sugar content. If it's got sugar in it, it's probably best to avoid it for now. Sorry - I know the liquid phase is really rough. I just don't want you to set yourself up with a bad habit from the start.

I could eat a decent amount of broth during that stage, but my doc had me limit it to 4 oz. per hour. If your doc doesn't limit you, you should be fine.
I would suggest finding something besides the jelly, though. I know you're probably eating it because you're exhausted and the sugar gives you energy, but it's not a good idea to get into the habit of relying on sugar for energy. It creates this roller coaster effect with your blood sugar, and it will make you hungrier overall.

I got cleared for all exercise around 6 weeks. If you were sleeved 2/11/17, you should have gotten the ok way before now!

The main reason you are walking after surgery is to avoid blood clots in your legs and help break up any gas trapped in your abdominal cavity. You might feel better if you take frequent, smaller walks - but as long as you are moving, you're doing fine!

I didn't have a scope before my surgery. My doctor only did them if he suspected problems based on history.

mamamc32 got a reaction from MrsHTX in I used to enjoy eating
I feel like that sometimes. What helps me is making sure I get the BEST three or four bites first. For example, if I am eating taco meat with cheese, I eat the cheesiest bites first. Even then, though, I don't get the same satisfaction with eating that I used to. I'm ok with that, though . . . I think if I did, it would be hard to maintain this lifestyle. Does that make sense?

I'm so sorry to hear about your sister. That's heart breaking. I am not too far out, but the first step I think you should take is to call your surgeon/NUT and get them involved in your plans. I know some people swear by doing a pouch reset, but I think a good first step would be to start tracking your food and reviewing your macros to make sure you are prioritizing Protein. Cut out all the caloric drinks and make sure 95% of what you are eating has nutritional value. You can definitely get back on track - even if you have stretched your sleeve some, the stomach will adapt to smaller meals by contracting. You can do this!! Good luck!

Watch the incision itself for redness, swelling, or pus drainage. A small amount of redness is normal, but it shouldn't spread out from the site. Also, check to see if you have a fever.

mamamc32 got a reaction from CJ Sunshine in panicking about post-op side effects...
I was SO, SO nervous before my surgery. I was afraid I'd have complications, I would never be able to eat normal food again, I wouldn't be able to tolerate my favorite foods, etc. I have had ABSOLUTELY ZERO issues. I had minor/manageable pain after the surgery. I followed my doctor's diet progression, and I have been able to eat everything I have tried (and I have tried a lot!) with no issues. Food tastes exactly the same as it did to me before surgery, but I have this wonderful restriction that reminds me to keep my portions in check. I threw up a couple of times right after surgery (Zofran took care of that), and I have thrown up twice from eating a little too much (which was my own fault - it's a learning curve). I had surgery 9/21, and as of this morning I am down 72 lbs from my HW and 41 lbs from SW. I look better, and I feel great. I sleep much better than I used to, and my energy levels are way up.
Everyone has a different journey, and some people do have more issues than I have had. It's a surgery, and there's always the slight possibility of complications. That being said . . . think about the possibility of developing health issues if you don't have surgery. You have to look at the up side and really think about whether the pros outweigh the cons. If you go to a reputable surgeon, your chances of complications are very, very small.

This is a hard one to answer because whether you can eat those things really depends on your doctor's plan and also what you personally can tolerate. I can eat anything with no problems, but I know that's not true for everybody. If you have tried them before you go, I don't see an issue with eating a small amount. If this will be the first time you have had an egg roll or noodles, then you might want to skip them just in case they make you ill.
I know that I had to pick and choose what I ate at Thanksgiving - there's just not room for everything! If that's the case with your holiday meal, too, maybe skip the things you haven't tried yet and eat the things you know you can tolerate.

Thank you, that’s what I will do[emoji1360] I will be on solids just before we leave, I don’t think I will have a chance to try those things before going. I really don’t want to have to throw it up, seems easier to just avoid it. Thank you [emoji16]
