Congrats. Another surgery twin. I'm 6.1kg from the same goal, but started higher than you. Awesome job. I can't wait to reach 68kg

  2. GOAL!!! this week I have reached my goal. I have lost 30kgs (66.7lbs or 4.7 stone) since 20/3/17 and I feel amazing. I'm fit and healthy and wearing an AU size 8/10. Can't believe it. It hasn't been easy, it's involved an immense amount of will power and very regular exercise but has been well worth it. My friends say I look 15 years younger and I certainly have a younger outlook and feel so very positive. If you are stuck, just getting started or just need to hear that it can be done then believe me it can. Just grit your teeth and stay on it and you'll get there, and when you do your life will be so much happier and fulfilling. Good luck🍀

Great for you!! I'm 53 also, hopefully I will be as successful as you have been!

I am 53 too - hoping to be much smaller by 54! Starting eating food again, but still dealing with pain issues from a small hernia. I keep aggravating it when I do too much. Right now, walking seems the only safe exercise.

  3. STRUGGLING! I'm so close to my goal but really struggling with the last 2.5kgs. It doesnt sound much but I'm terrified that I'm going to start self-sabotaging. I've been literally walking my butt off and being so, so careful with what I eat but now the thought of maintaining this huge loss is seeming like a massive mountain to climb for the rest of my life. I've been here so many times before, not with weight loss surgery though, but we all know that the surgery is just a weight loss tool and can be circumnavigated easily. Anyone have tips on how to get that last bit off and keep it off?

  4. FITBIT tracker has changed my life. I can't believe how competitive I have become with my exercise. I have this overwhelming urge to beat this piece of plastic on my wrist each and every day. I love it when it sends me a message saying I'm an 'overachiever' when I beat my daily goals. I also got a 'milestone badge' last week saying I have walked 402kms which is the equivalent of walking the entire London Underground circuit! I've done another 60kgs since then and feeling great. Can't believe that 3 months ago just walking up stairs half killed me!

happy to explain what the FITBIT does if you have any questions.

I love my fitbit as well! It keeps me honest, and I know that I haven't had enough exercise in a day if I'm not close to 10,000 steps. Plus, like you, I have to hit my milestones everyday! I might make them a little more challenging to get me moving more.

  5. So happy! I saw my dietitian yesterday who told me I have reached my optimum healthy BMI. So excited to actually be healthy again. I have 7kgs to lose to hit the weight I want to be at but chipping away at it slowly and surely. I have lost 23kgs (50.7)lbs in 12 weeks so I'm going well.

  6. I'm thrilled with my progress so far. In just 9 weeks I have lost 20kgs (44lbs) and am feeling so much fitter and generally so much happier. It has not been easy, I am VERY strict with myself about what I eat and i'm walking at least 5kms per day at a very brisk pace and it's really paying off.  For quite a while I was disheartened that no one seemed to notice my weight loss but then all of a sudden I could really see it and so can others. It's such a good feeling when friends comment and say that I'm looking really well. To anyone considering weight loss surgery, know that it is not a quick fix and that you really have to put in the effort to get moving and eat well but it's so worth it. Tonight I ate out for the first time and just had an entree, no main course and picked at the vegetables that came as a side. It was yum and I was full and happy. Feeling optimistic to lose the last 10kgs and hit my goal weight.

Thanks everyone, you're so kind and encouraging. I hope you have a great weekend.

  7. 9 weeks post op (Plication) and feeling great. I have lost just under 20kgs (41.8lbs) and am well over half way to my target weight. My kids bought me a Fitbit for my birthday which is really encouraging me to keep moving, doing around 5kms per day at a brisk pace and fitting into gym gear without feeling self conscious. When I get down to the last 10 kgs in a couple of weeks I think I'm going to have to start going to the gym and building some good muscle for core strength and I know the last few kgs will be tough to get off. I start back at Uni 1August and want to have reached my goal by then. I comfort eat when stressed and studying again after 30+ years will be stressful but if I've hit my goal I will be determined to keep it off. Here goes nothing!

Thanks Newme17 . How is everything going for you at the moment?

  8. Can anyone tell me what 'dumping' is please? See it in other posts and not sure what it is and if it applies to Plication Surgery.

    1. Berry78

      Berry78

Dumping mostly happens in Bypass surgery. When a patient eats sugary or greasy/fried foods, the body rejects it, making them feel very sick. It isn't harmful, but is a good deterrent against eating those types of foods.

  9. 6 weeks post op and Just over half way to my goal. So very happy with the progress, wish I'd done this a couple of years ago.

  11. 2 weeks post op, Strictly on 700-800 calories per day but not a single pound lost in 1 week. Is this normal?

I have read on a lot of medical sites that post-operative swelling is the cause, so don't despair yet.

      Are you getting enough water?

    4. Brit in Oz

      Brit in Oz

Thanks for the reassurance. I must admit I'm not drinking much water but then I figure all my shakes and soups are made with water. I'm too full to eat what I have to on the post op diet and then drink water as well. I also stopped the anti inflammatory suppositories the surgeon gave me because I feel fine but maybe I should start them up again. Weighed in this morning and finally made a loss, lost 1kg (2.2lbs) in 6 days, a little disappointing, but I'll take it. So that's 25.35lbs, (11.5kgs) in 4 weeks from start of my pre op period to 2 weeks post op. I suppose it was too good to be true to be losing at that rate and it has slowed down to a much more realistic rate. If I continue to lose 1kg per week it will take me 38 weeks to hit my goal. I can live with that.

  12. No Poop for 7 days. Is it normal?

I'm 1 week post op Gastric Plication and apart from 1 teeny tiny bowel movement on day 4... NOTHING. Is this normal?  Anyone else found the same?

Your surgeon should advise you to use milk of magnesia.

I tried all sorts. MoM, benefibre, prune juice and on and on. The only thing that worked for me was ducolax. Still take it every now and again if I don't go for a few days.

Although I haven't gone, it doesn't really seem to be too much of a problem at the moment but I will definitely look into the options you guys suggest. Not sure if I can add anything at this stage but will call my surgeon and ask. Thanks girls.

  13. Day 6 post op Gastric Plication ...was a great day today.  No pain of any sort, more energy. Managed 2 walks around the block with husband and the dog, 2 hours lying in the beautiful Aussie sunshine, a few household chores, some light gardening, a nap and drank all the designated fluids...full seven hundred calories. Yay. Wanted to post to encourage others and also if I hit a bad day I can look back and remind myself it does get better. Onwards and upwards. Have a good day everyone.

  14. 5 days post plication op. I've lost another 2 kgs since yesterday, a total of 10kgs (22lbs) in 2.5 weeks including pre op diet period, so excited. I'm at 89 kgs (196lbs) with my goal weight being 70kgs (154lbs) Spoke to my dietitian about soups instead of shakes and she was very helpful. She's happy for me to eat any soup that is thin enough to drink through a straw with no lumps or pieces in it. This has made a huge difference because I seem to have lost my sweet tooth (hope it lasts) and was finding the overly sweet shakes hard going. Pain has subsided now with just the odd stomach twinge now and then. All incisions are looking good and pain free. Feeling very optimistic.

Great news. I'm hoping for that kind of pre-op weight loss too. Keep up the good work!
