    Surgery soap

When I left the hospital, my wounds were covered with bandages and under that, steri strips. There was no way wearing out what you wore in would cause an infection. There also is no harm in bringing extra clothes like you did. But, I wouldn't want anyone to think it would be a problem.

    Surgery soap

Also note, your surgical group will wash you with the soap while you are under anesthesia. If you have hair they will also shave you (where they need to only). No shaving at all 3 days prior to the surgery (legs, arm pits, anywhere else). No deodorants (lotion was already mentioned) from the night before. Use freshly washed towels after each use of the soap you get/order, and sleep the night before on freshly washed sheets (including pillow case).

    Kidney Stones??

My buddy had his sleeve surgery 6 months ago, he has had problems with kidney stones from before the surgery. After the surgery it has gotten worse. One of the reason he forms stones is from protein, so I think he has condemned himself to a lifetime of problems, but he was over 400 lbs, so it was a lesser of 2 evils. I am not trying to worry you, but kidney stones are a very serious problem, hopefully you will have a solution, but yes, water water water... My wife has kidney stone issues (no bariatric surgery), I end up taking her to the ER at least once a year. This is once she is to the point that she can't keep anything down (so oral pain pills do not help), and IV pain meds are needed. EDIT: You need to see a urologist. They will have you collect your stones as you pass them. They will be sent in for analysis, and they will tell you what foods to avoid, or minimize. For my wife, it is caffeine, broccoli, and a few other things. Everyone is different, so only a urologist can tell you after stone analysis. But all will tell you to maximize your water intake.
  4. That is awesome news!!! Very happy for you.
  5. I am sorry you are having a hard time with this. It is emotional, but in the end, we do have to realize WE made the choice to change our lives, not everyone around us. We can not expect our loved ones to change unless they need/want to. If you are in a situation where you are having a hard time maybe you can leave the room? Maybe use this as motivation to go for a walk? I suggest not making any decisions or saying anything that you may regret. This is the perfect place to vent. We understand your pain, he will not because he did not go though what we did. I feel your pain, my wife had a lot of great food around the house during my 2 week liquid diet and the 2 weeks of recovery (I am a little over 1 month out now). I am not an emotional person, and I wasn't upset. But, she deserves to be able to eat whatever she wants, I'm the one with the weight problem. I don't think she should have to suffer because I made this choice, it is her home too. I have to be the one to get over it, not her. At least, this is how I see it.

    Emotional crying already?

I keep reading about this, and I feel for those of you going through this. I have never been an emotional person, and had no emotional swings, or sad feelings since this surgery. I have been paying attention, looking for it. I am at 4 weeks, maybe it will come later?

    CPAP after surgery

I am 4 weeks out from surgery, and down a total of 62 lbs. I still use my mask, and intend to push back a new sleep study as far back as I can convince my pulmonologist. I like using my cpap machine.

    3 weeks post op

Thanks! I'm not to worried about it. It is a pain that I HAVE to weight myself daily for this study. It would make it much easier. It is also hard for me to get my totals, I don't think I've had a single day of getting protein AND fluids. And I have had a couple urinalysis since my surgery, both show I'm dehydrated (some level of dehydration).
  9. The only thing I would have liked to ask was about his technique. I have been watching some of the surgeons procedures and some stitch the sleeve over the staples, others don't. I never asked, and have no idea if he did that extra step or not. My surgeon opted to go robotic for my surgery as he was running late (I was the first surgery, and he was a little late). I personally think my speedy recovery was because it was robotic. So maybe I would ask if he/she plans to go robotic or not?

    3 weeks post op

I had my surgery on Sep 25th. I am in a stall. I am part of a study with my surgeons office, so I have to weigh myself daily. They provided me with a polar Bluetooth scale and polar watch. I have actually gone up a couple pounds, and have been hovering there for 6 days (since week 2 when I introduced pureed food). I am not hitting my fluid goals, and I am not always hitting my protein goals (some days I do, but only through drinking two Premier Protein shakes). Yesterday I had 3 protein shakes (90 grams of protein) a hard boiled egg and a cheese stick.

Just ate a lot - scared

As others have said, that isn't much. I'm still in the small sleeve phase, but I used to eat a 20 piece nuggets + large fries and was good (not stuffed). I can't even imagine that now that I get full off of one hard boiled egg.

    Nausea after surgery?

Just an FYI, not everyone has nausea after the surgery. You might get lucky like me. I have had 0 nausea so far (2 weeks and 3 days post-op). I do have a hard time getting my fluids in, and more than a couple oz of blended chicken/tuna salad.
  13. I am at day 2 at my hospital (surgery 9/25/17). Off of IVs, no port during surgery, no nausea at all. Well, to be honest for 2 seconds I thought I was going to throw up, but it was simply my first post op burp. I have not been hungry, and wasn’t thirsty at all post op. I have no problems getting my fluids in. I have had pain meds each night, because of pain, but, that really is the only time I take them. So far, this as been easy. I have been making my walks, and they were surprised how well I have been taking it. I am so glad I didn’t have any complications.

    Protein Shakes

I have not paid for a single shake, and am 3 days from surgery (drinking 7 shakes a day for 2 week pre-op liver shrinking diet). Be sure to try www.insurenutrition.com early so you can stock up on them. I get 4 boxes (18 shakes per box) every month, I had 2-3 lots saved up so I didn't need to buy any. FYI their website is garbage (as of today)... Just sign up, they will call you. If you have any questions, you need to call them back as you can not log in.
  15. My surgery is scheduled for 9/25/17 (3 days from now), the pre-op diet has been hard. I have been hungry the entire time. I am on 7 premier protein shakes a day for 1120 Cals, I have another 80 Cals to play with between broth/SF Jello and as much Crystal Light as I want. I am making it (haven't cheated), but I have been hungry. I have a shake at 6 am, and a shake every 2 hours after that. So, for one hour I'm good, the next hour I'm really hungry repeat for the rest of the day. I have lost 17 lbs in 10 days (my first weight in on day 2 I was heavier than day 1, but by day 3 I was back to starting weight).
  16. I'm on day 1 of my liquid diet, surgery on the 25th. Almost made it through day 1. It is weird not eating solid food. Anyone else have a Gattaca (movie) feeling?
  17. Just got the call today... Paperwork submitted to my insurance company on 8/29/2017 approved by 9/1/2017 surgery is now scheduled for 9/25/2017. So, I'm officially a September Buddy!
  18. Good luck! I know it will go smooth. Once medical teams have a plan, things typically go well.
  19. I have always worked at Teaching Hospitals. I can honestly say, hospitals like ours would LOVE to handle cases like yours. Not only would it be a good teaching experience, it often gives an opportunity for a team to publish (Staff Physicians have publishing requirements). The entire team (Bariatric Surgeon, Cardiologist, Anesthesiologist, nursing from each, technicians,...) would have several planning meetings and would be ready for anything. As stated above, you should be avoiding community hospitals, and probably looking for a major academic medical center (AMC). If your bariatric surgeon does not have privileges at an AMC, they should be partnering with a surgeon who does, to preform the surgery there.
  20. Will your cardiologist be there for the procedure? Since it is inpatient, I'm sure they will have cardiology available. They can make sure an Attending (not a fellow, not a resident) in Cardiology is aware of your condition and can have a plan ready (if your cardiologist doesn't have privileges at the hospital your having the surgery at). I'm sure the Chief of Cardiology will make sure He/She is there and ready as it would be something they want to personally be involved with.
  21. Thank you for sharing. This will be really helpful to others who are back and forth about sleeve vs bypass because of GERD issues. Seems like your surgeon and you have a great plan.
  22. Good luck! Wishing you a smooth surgery and speedy recovery!
  23. Good luck! For future reference (people who search and find this thread), do you mind explaining your surgeons reasoning for changing you from sleeve to bypass? Thanks!
  24. I'm sure the surgeon knows what they are doing! I'm still pre-op, I have my 6th weight in today, YAY!!! So, sorry I have no post-op advice. I expect it will be like a month to a month and a half, so maybe I can get some advice from you! Good luck.
