LINZ62383 got a reaction from insul817 in Why am I not losing weight?!
I am 11 days out from surgery, and I have already stalled out on losing any weight. I am following all of the rules, in fact I’m eating a little less than I should because I find eating to be an annoyance at this point. I’m getting Protein and fluids in, I walked outside yesterday for half an hour. I weighed myself this morning and I gained a pound. I am so depressed and frustrated, I really don’t understand what I’m doing wrong. I did not go through all of this to not lose much weight. Has anyone else experienced this?

My RNY surgery was yesterday around. 10 am EST. So far I’m doing pretty well. I have had little to no nausea, and I am doing fine keeping liquids down. I had a hard time coming out on anesthesia and my blood pressure dropped pretty low, but everything is back to normal now. My incisions are by far the most painful part, and getting in and out of bed is really not fun. I’ll be more glad I did this in a few weeks when I’m not as exhausted and in pain.

Today was definitely better than yesterday, and I assume tomorrow will be better than today. The incision pain is th biggest problem I’ve had, I’m doing fine with eating and drinking and have had no nausea.

Today I’m just very sore at my incision sites. I am envious of anyone who went through this with little to no pain. That hasn’t been my experience. I’m not having any problems with eating or drinking, though.

Apparently there was a problem with my liver when they did surgery. It was very fatty still and bled more than it should have. They almost had to give me a blood infusion. So scary, I’m glad I didn’t know that until today. I must not be in too bad of shape though bc they sent me home this evening.

Hello! I am one week post-op, Lap-Band to RNY, with a surprise hiatal hernia repair as an added bonus.

When I'm anxious, I prepare. So I prepared lists of foods to have during each stage, lists of things to bring with me to the hospital, lists of things to have on hand upon my return. But I also did a lot of reading about others' experiences, and I took care to read messages from the same people right after surgery and then months on. I am SO glad I did. Over and over, I'd read, from the just post-surgical, "What have I done?!" And then weeks or months later, from those same people, "I am so glad I did this." I made a note to myself (a physical note) to expect to feel regret amid the pain and discomfort and to keep in mind that it would almost certainly pass.

There were a couple of days last week where I would have given a limb to rewind to the week before surgery. Those were some VERY challenging times. But one of my comforts and the thing that kept me thinking forward was that note. There isn't anything that's been more valuable than the lived experience of those who've come before. At this point, at the very beginning of this, the knowledge that things will look very different in a few days, a few weeks, and a few months, is the best thing I have.

So, thank you, so much, to those who share their lives. And for those yet to have surgery, I hope you find that bit of knowledge as important and comforting as I did -- and do.

I’m in the same boat as you right now. My surgery is in 24 days and I’m starting to get nervous, surprisingly not about the surgery itself but the life changes after surgery. I haven’t second guessed myself yet but I do worry about emotions and life changes afterwards. I’ve just been telling myself that I’ve had the past 33 years to eat whatever I wanted and basically start to destroy my body from the inside out that now is the time I take care of my body and be healthy enough to try to be around for another 50+ years. I know what we’re feeling is normal so I’m just taking each day at a time and confronting my feelings and fears as they come. I’m also looking forward to all the things I will be able to do with the weight gone!

One of the reasons why I had surgery was because of my mom. Her overweight led to diabetes and it took a terrible toll on her life. I was following in her footsteps. I became obese, developed high blood pressure and diabetes. I had surgery over 4 years ago and it corrected these problems along with others. So I am very pleased. I am 69 years old or maybe I should say 69 years young.
