  1. I had a bad one today. I seem to PB only around TOM. How often does everyone here PB? I'm terrified of slipping by PBing too often. I ate too much today (PMS) was a bit out of control and did not listen to my signals to stop, PB'd and my stomach is so sore and inflamed. Anyone else? How often?

    My turn -- I've slipped

Alex! I've been off and came in to see this! because you and I share the same doctors, office staff, etc it's a certain connection, and when I saw that you are going through this I was so concerned! Right now, your probably in surgery, so sending good thoughts your way. I also have reflux problems, but I always did. I also have had a sore throat for two weeks, but I also have allergies. It's awful hard to figure out at times if it's something else or our band. I have the 4 cc band placed last year, I'm curious as to what Dr. Abkin thinks of replacing the current band with the VG. Keep us posted!

    Reflux Poll

I'm havig a scope in a week. I'm terrified of Barretts. If the doctor see's damage I'm going to rethink the band. Nothing is worth cancer.

    Reflux Poll

Hello everyone, I have reflux (before and after band) and am currently searching for holistic remedies to my reflux. I don't mean to scare anyone but the meds can cause pancreatitis . I didn't even know this was a side effect until I did some research. I'm amazed the doctors don't know this. My lap band doctor did caution against using these meds long term. It's really frightening. If you google chronic pancreatitis, it's a devastating illness that can take your life and probably will eventually. I have stopped my acid reflux meds and I'm hoping I have not caused such damage to it. Just an FYI
  5. Yup, it's me again. :girl_hug: I'm having constant back pain in left side, from spine, into the ribs and towards the front. It's very painful and only since being banded, although I am worried it could be pancreas. I had that checked a year ago and all was well. It feels better when I put heat on it, but still hurts. I'm seeing my band doctor in two weeks, so I'll talk to him about it, but anyone else? Ribs in left front hurt too, but not as bad.

    Left Sided Back Pain

Really? I know the kidneys are that high, and in the area I hurt. The whole mid back area has been sore and tight for a few weeks now. I also began a workout routine with abs and weights, I thought maybe that was it, but this feels really strange.

    Left Shoulder Pain

Anyone else get pain in the left shoulder after eating? It's not gas, and it's not my gallbladder (I don't have one) and it's only been happening since I got the band. I was told a long time ago that the nerve into the right shoulder is the gallbladder and into the left the stomach. It hurts when I move and can't bend over. Very painful. The it goes away if i don't eat for a while. Anyone else experience this?

    Left Shoulder Pain

Thank you for your replies. I'm thinking it's because I've either eaten too much or I've irritaed my stomach and it's swelling. Thank you! :-)
  9. I could have signed my name to the end of your post. I've had my band for a year and only a 15 lb loss and that was from the surgery. I have not lost anything on my own. I do the same things as you do. Someone suggested I go to an overeaters anonymous meeting. Please keep me updated as I'm in the same boat.

    Catastrophic Slippage

Ih my gosh,...Omamoon! So frightening. Thank god your okay. I have not been following all the rules, and this serves as a reminder. DO you think it was caused from being too tight or the tightness was from the slip?

One Year Later...Not A Success Story

Good idea.Warm liquids for the day and mushies when it calms down. Thank you! Mary and Jack:Thanks for your support. With restriction it has shocked me how hard it is for food to go down. It was so easy before! Boo-Boo Kitty: No, I should go to my support group, but it's an hour away. But I will start I think. Although the board is great, I think I need to add that in.

One Year Later...Not A Success Story

Hey all, just to update you all. I have PB'd every day since the fill. Twice yesterday and I'm so sore in my band area. I'm not sure if I am too tight or not chewng slow enough, etc. I've never really had good restriction, so I don't know what is what.

One Year Later...Not A Success Story

Hi all!! From the responses and PM's I'm getting, it seems I am not alone in this issue. Just to update...man am I tight! I never knew what it was like, always able to eat what I wanted and gulp liquids, that I PB's Water I gulped last night! Now I know what you all talked about in the "sip, sip, sip". I never had to do that. Now, if I have a leak, I'm assuming I will lose this tightness before substantial weight is lost, correct? Thanks for the reminder Alex, that is hard for me too.

One Year Later...Not A Success Story

I went for my second fill today and he said I was wide open. He also said he filled it up to as much as I can take. I have not lost any weight since my last fill, so where is my fill going???????? Another "fill-ee" waiting in the room asked me how I was doing . She said she has lost 50 lbs and can't eat bread, Pasta, red meat. I told her I can eat ANYTHING.

THANK YOU all! It's so good to know I'm not the only one who experiences this. I see so many success stories, and people losing so much weight the first year. Jack, go ahead and send me a PM. Thank you! :-)

One Year Later...Not A Success Story

Hi Renebean, Thanks so much for your support. I have had a few PB's. It's due to my not chewing well enough or eating too fast. So there is restriction. But I never feel full. How can I be PBing but not feel full??

    Band erosion

Pauliegirl, I'm so sorry to hear of this. When was your last check up with Dr. Bertha/Abkin before you found this out? Did you have any symptoms? nanaholmes experience scares the beejebus out of me. I didn't realize an erosion could put someone in ICU.
  18. Hey everybody, I had a bad PB today - first time. I am worried about band slippage, and the area is sore right now. What should I be looking out for, any warning signs, etc...? Thanks in advance for any input. P.S. Major slime out of my nose.

    Complications Arm/shoulder

I have this too! I was banded in March. I know from my training that it's a nerve connected to the stomach/diaphram area. I'm so glad that I'm not the only one!

Bad PB - Chances of slippage?

Hi Gayle! It was on salmon. I was ravenous and ate it too quickly and did not chew enough. Yow! Sipping tea right now and it feels so good.
  21. Hi everyone. I've been really unwell lately. I have some medical conditions besides the obesity and the problems with it. I have asthma, PCOS, GERD, Epstien Barr (chronic fatigue syndrome) costocondritis and Fibromyalgia. I wish I had this operation last year before I started feeling so sick. Lately, I have been so ill I am am afraid to exert myself at all because I can't breath. I'm doing this to feel well again, to hell with buying clothes (although that is an added bonus) Back in May of 1998 I had my first "asthma attack". I woke up wheezing one morning, went to the hospital, but the time I got there, I was feeling better. They figured I had it seasonally due to allergies, gave me an inhaler and that was it. I hardly used it over the years, just when I was around cigarette smoke or pollen. Fast foward a few years and now I have Fibrimyalgia which developed into something called Costocondtitis. The tissue in the ribs is inflammed which constricts the lungs. Coupled with the fact I put on quite a bit of weight, I have bad asthma now. But lately it has been worse, my chest feeling tight and coughing on a deep exhale. Especially in the mornings. I'm not sure what is going on during the night, because I wake in the mornings feeling pretty lousy. I went to the doctor the other day and she said my breath is sounding slow on the exhale and gave me Aerobid inhaler. I'm getting scared and wondering if I will be okay through the surgery.I want to get better, I don't want this! I'm hoping with the weight loss program, I'm hoping it will lessen or dissapear with the weight loss. My BMI is lower than some, but that just goes to show you how different we are. My body can't tolerate being 230lbs. Today I woke up again, feeling ill, and just got in the shower and sat there, letting it pour down on me. For some reason, that always makes me feel better.
  22. Hi all! I'm really confused about my band. I have about 2cc's in a 4cc band. I was banded in March. Have lost 20 lbs. I had my second fill last month. I'm very concerned about dilating my pouch because I can eat about 1 1/2 to 2 cups of food easily. I also have no food restrictions, I can eat anything.Although I'm doing better after that second fill, I'm still hungry too. My doctor had me see the nurtionist before allowing me to get my second fill because I did not lose any more weight since my March banding. This confused me as well. With just one small fill since March, isn't it reasonable that I had not lost weight? After going over my menu, I was allowed to get the second fill. Now I am thinking I need another fill to get it right, but as I said, I'm fearful of dilation because I can each what i can now. I don't know what is normal. What should real restriction feel like? And how much should I be eating to feel satiated??? How often are you supposed to get a fill until you get proper restriction?
  23. Thanks to the both of you. :-) I do get stuck and if I eat too fast.
  24. Hello everyone, I got my second fill 3 weeks ago, and for the first time have restriction, so I'm not sure what is normal or not normal. Upon waking in the morning, I have to sip liquids or they "hang" a bit. Hot tea is what I drink and that goes down fine. I can't eat anything solid until lunch, after a few cups of tea. In the evenings, I can eat fine. Is this too tight or just normal band weirdness??
