Why do I need IVC filter before bag surgery

I am getting my sleeve surgery this coming Monday, February 27, 2017 my surgeon ordered me to get the IVC filter inserted tomorrow Friday the 24th and I am a little concerned because I found out that I should have had our option of getting a blood thinner if possible could someone please tell me if they ever received The IVC filter before bag surgery -

Hi ?? my gastric sleeve surgery is February 27th 2017 i started my liquid diet Tuesday I cheated Tuesday Wednesday Thursday it seem like I will do great all day but later that night I slip help! I feel terrible
