  1. So let's talk something personal. I have been literally shunned by two women that I thought were friends.

A friend from college (I barely speak with. We were cool but not really close) called me after one of my best friends told her about my surgery and how I inspired her to make a change in her life. Lets call her "M". Now "M" looks like me.

"M" called me while I was heading home. She began asking me about the surgery and how was my recovery. She then started talking about how I would eat nothing but junk in college and I would stuff my face and she could never imagine me giving up milkshakes. Ooookkkayyy whatever. She then starts listing foods and I would say, "No I cannot eat that. Yes, I can eat that. I will have to modify the recipe for a healthier version but I can eat it." She then asked how much had I lost so far. I told her 25lbs but I weigh in Friday so hopefully I lost more. At that point, she goes off on me, "What you think that I am supposed to change my eating habits to make you feel better. I am not getting the surgery because it is the easy way out. I refused to put myself through that." Again, oooookkkkayyy. She precedes to tell me how I have changed and I am stuck up wanna-be-healthy B-word and how I will be loose and saggy. At that point I told her jealousy does not suite you and hung upB)

Another friend has gained weight over the years since having her daughter. Her husband has never had an issue with her weight until lately. She is now about to weigh 300lbs. For their daughters B-day this month, they took her to Disneyland. My friend was unable to keep up with her Husband and daughter, she was even told that she could not get a ride because of her size. Her Husband sat her down and had a heart to heart and express that it was time for her to start getting healthy. He said her not being able to get on a ride with their child hurt him as much as it hurt her. Now her Husband is big on fitness and when they met, they were both in great shape. He has kept his shape but he also understands that carrying a human being is not easy, which is why he does not care if she ever gets her pre-baby body back. He just wants her healthy and able ride the rides with their child. I expressed that I agreed with him citing when we went to Six Flags and the strap barely fit last year and how I nervous that the guy was going to tell me to get off. She then got upset and told me every since I have been losing weight, I have been trying to dictate people's lives. I asked her for an example and she could not give me one. She however kicked me out of her house and told me that if I continued to lose weight and act this way that I was no longer invited to her home:53_cold_sweat:

I had to call my boyfriend and ask him if I have changed? I called, all of my other friends and was like, hey have I changed? My boyfriend said that how I think about food has changed (he loves the whole kids meal thing). My other friends said, no I have not. They say that I am just way more health conscious and I view food differently but I do not make them feel uncomfortable when they eat junk in front of me.

I wanted to post this so that you guys knew what was going on in my personal life and how this surgery and weight loss is effecting my life in other ways.

      Newme17

Oh hon, sorry about all that. Your "friends" behaviors are a result of how they feel/are about themselves. It's not you at all. You just keep focusing on yourself.

    2. Sweet as peaches

      Sweet as peaches

Don't worry jewel these conversations are normal anytime their are changes in your life. Don't fret it people will change their minds once they get on the same path you are on.

      Ash44

man that sucks. it's all their problem. maybe someday they'll realize it. hope your good friend was just having a really bad day and she'll come around. maybe ask her to get a coffee with you? or go to something non-food related?? maybe she's afraid of losing you???

  2. 4/19 - Had a protein shot which was 15 grams of protein for breakfast. Had 1/2 grill chicken broken up into 4 small meals, with two pieces of steamed broccoli each. Premier Protein shake for dinner. Total 65g protein, 2g sugar, 9g of carbs, 6g of fat. I also have not stepped on a scale since my 2 week post op. I am starting to worry that I am either stalling or have gained weight. I am sure that I am just overreacting, however I weigh in Friday when I see my NUT. I am hoping that I have lost weight.

I'm totally with you on that. My relationships with women are better than ever since they know I am genuinely happy for them instead of letting their successes make me feel bad about myself.

    2. Ash44

i'm just a newbie....but i anticipate my friendships will be better.....my friends were always sad for me that i was so down on myself. not sure how the "fun things " and "not drinking as much or at all" will affect them - we'll see...

    3. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

@Ash44 I hope that all your friends are extremely supportive. We deserve to have those people there whom saw us struggle and saw how hard we worked and needed this.

I thought the same thing. I figured because these people saw me struggling with loosing weight for years and how much I wanted so badly to get healthy, that they would be there throughout. I think that this only weeds out the "Friends" whom are really not on your team. Those are the best people to lose because the ones that are there no matter what are the ones that are the truest.

  3. 4/17 - I had a pretty good day. I just forgot to take my vitamins. Nothing out of the ordinary happened on my end.

4/18 - Was having a conversation and eating with a co-worker. I was not paying attention to how much I ate and ended up taking a bite too much. I have been sitting here for the last 45 minutes with this bubbling/foaming filling in my chest and throat. I am not sure if my sleeve is creating a lot of acid to digest it or if I need to dump. I do not have my normal symptoms so I think I am good there. I have tried walking around but that feeling will not go away. It fills like I drank soap and my stomach is making bubbles and my saliva is really thick and foamy.

My two 2 week post-op appt was when I was advised to start taking my vitamins. I take the following:

      calcuim

      vitamin D

iron (ensure that you are taking iron and calcium at least 2 hours apart. I choose to take them 3 hours apart to be safe)

biotin (I need my curls to stay glamorous)

      multivitamin for women

      b12

Due to me having issues with remembering to take my vitamins. I downloaded this free app called Round to help me keep track.

Congrats on your surgery. Now is way too soon to be taking chewy vitamins.

Have you already scheduled your 2 week follow up?

    2. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

Yes. Thank god that feeling went away. I mean it took almost 2 hours but it did go away. I told my co-workers, y'all cannot eat with me anymore. I need to focus lol. I normally count 10 bites and I am full. When I am focusing, I hit the 6th bite and I start slowing down even more. So by the time I hit 10, I can feel the restriction slightly. I took 11 yesterday lol.

    3. Ash44

      Ash44

i agree. you DO need to focus. i realize how i used to SCARF down my food. the other day, i was eating pea soup - it kinda clogged up my esophagus ----oh the pressure. I had to jump up and down and it became unplugged! i need to slooooooow down.

  4. 4/13 - Was not able to really eat anything. All I wanted was water. I was no hungry and had to force myself to drink some protein shakes. I was not stomaching my pureed chicken and beans. Eggs was not staying down neither. Overall, it was not a good day. My vitamins were making me sick, just chewing them. I would spit them out. I ended up only being able to drink 1 protein shake (30G) and drinking almost 70 oz of water. It was like all my body wanted was water. I started drinking it at 8am and did not stop until 11:30pm.

4/14 - It got better. Was not able to stomach soft or pureed foods. However, I was able to drink 3 protein shakes (90g). I got in 64 oz of water on the mark.

4/15 - Tried to eat some grilled chicken from Chipotle, just the chicken and black beans that I smashed up (It was my Granny's B-Day and she always wanted to go). I chewed just a little and ran to the bathroom and dumped. It was immediate. I was really confused because I thought grilled chicken was okay to eat.

4/16 - I had some some egg whites with low fat cheese, just tuna and a protein shake. I was able to get in 56 oz of protein. I was really nervous, trying to eat. I still feel the restriction and when I reach my limit, I start burping which is my sign to stop eating. I have not tried any other foods yet. I am waiting until my NUT Appt to see what foods I can add.

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

You are brave! I don't know how I would fare trying to add in new foods. I think I'll be one to be stuck on protein drinks and beans for a while. Lol. We shall see. Your journey is paving the way for others behind you, like me. Thanks for all the updates!

    2. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

I am glad that my updates can help. Some days are really good and others are a process to get the nutrients down. However, I would not change anything. I now view food soo differently. I shop differently. Even my Mom and brother shop differently. It is interesting to see them slowly changing their habits as I am learning new ones.

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

That's great influence! I'm glad to hear they're changing habits too. My husband told me he will go plant based with me. Obviously, I'd have to wait for clearance post op, but we're doing plant based now. He doesn't need to lose weight or anything, he's doing it for support and because of nutritional aspects. I love him even more for it. 😍

  5. Sorry for the delay. So many updates:

4/8 - I had a nervous break down. Got into it with my little brother over Popeyes lol. I know I can't have any but it did not stop me from grabbing him up and saying, "give me some damn chicken, give me some beans, give me some mash potatoes and give me a biscuit" lol my mom had to break it up lol.

Then I gave her the ASPCA sad look and start singing, "In the eyes of an angel, give me Popeyes". I then went into the kitchen and started pulling snacks from the cabinets, screaming and crying "If I cant have this, no one can have it."  My mom endedup calling her friend (she had gotten the sleeve last year) and asked her what was going on. She told my mom that I was having moment and just needed to get the frustration out. Once I was done, my mom told me I was grounded lol. I told her I was grown and she said, "With that behavior, I do not think so." Needless to say, I have not been able to hang out with my friends lol

4/9 - Started eating more protein was able to get in 30 oz of chicken and 55 oz of water. Still cannot go outside to play.

4/10 - Still cannot go outside to play. Drank 64 oz of water, only able to get down 28 oz of protein

4/11 - Went to Applebees and accidentally took a sip out of a straw. No issues except I could not eat. I ended up getting a kids turkey burger with nothing. The waitress had the cook chopped the burger into small pieces. I ended eating less than 1/4 a turkey burger. Damn I was sad.

4/12 - Took all my vitamins on time. Yayy me!!! I am able to eat 2 (7oz) chickens over the course of 6 meals. I also added 2 steamed small pieces of broccoli. Now I am focusing on getting in my water. So far I have gotten in 30 oz.

    1. marieac2

      marieac2

30 oz of chicken, are you serious?? You should only have 3 oz per meal/snack which is 18oz max!! You should you sit down with your nutritionist and have a heart to heart.

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

      Lol. I'm guessing it's a typo....I'm sure it should say 3 oz.

    3. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

Sorry that was a typo. I was able to get 30g of protein from Chicken.

The next day was 28g of protein from Chicken.

  6. 4/6 - Well this was a bad day. I thought hey why not try something. My mom made spaghetti and meat sauce. So I took a small amount of meat sauce and pureed it. It was DELICIOUS. 5 minutes later, I was nauseous, light headed and hot with the chills. I ended up puking the meat sauce. I put it on my not ready to eat list lol. Was unable to stomach any thing other than water for the remainder of the day.

4/7 - So the food I made for work, actually was turned into 6 meals because I could not eat more than 10 small bites. Had 10 bites of the egg whites and cheese for breakfast. Had 10 bikes of the tuna and cheese. I am going to finish the day off with a Premier Caramel Protein Shake for dinner. This will help me to get my protein up. I have been drinking zero calorie sugar free Vitamin Water (this is helping me with the B12 and electrolytes).

So sorry this happened. I know it took a very long time for me to be able to eat any pasta, rice or even bread. It has been just the last year that I have tried to eat them. (I a 3 and 1/2 years out) Now rice NOPE it hurts me every time. I beleive it is because I eat to much because I love rice. Again I'm sorry and I hope you feel better soon.

Thank you for all the advise and support. I keep trying new things and each day, I am learning and adding to my list.

  7. 4/4 - My Surgeon put me on the pureed/soft food stage. I am to introduce these foods slowly into my diet. He gave me a strict schedule that I am to follow. I am just excited that I can cut back on the shakes lol. He told me to start taking my vitamins on Sunday (4/9). They have to be chewable and to make sure I get the biotin because he knows how I am about my hair lol. I tried pickle juice last night. Bad idea. It gave me heart burn and made me burp a lot.

4/5 - Made two egg whites for breakfast with some WW cheese. I was able to get 10 tiny bites in before I got full. My heart hurts (they were delicious). I have all 6 of my meals prepped for today. I have a 6 oz pouch of tuna with light mayo and some cheese. (I am lactose intolerant but cheese is delicious). I will be alternating between the two for today.

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

Pickle juice!?!? Oh boy! :) Glad you get to be on soft foods now. The thought of having tons of shakes, etc makes me want to throw up and I'm not even on pre-op yet. LOL But I'll do it to get this darn weight off for a better living enjoyment! Enjoy your new phase!

    2. biginjapan

      biginjapan

Great! Moving to foods certainly helps to mix things up and keeps things interesting.

    3. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

Yeah I had the pickle juice lol. I love pickles and I love the juice. IDK why but I have been like that since I was a kid. It gets easier once you get closer to the surgery. At that point you push yourself really hard to do the right thing.

  8. 4/1 - Was able to stomach a small amount of banana. I cannot eat that much though. I was actually able to get more walking in. I have created an alert on my phone to remind me to drink water every 15 minutes. When I wake up, I can stomach 8 sips. After that time, I can take 3 - 4 sips down each time. This allows me to get in 16 - 20 oz of water.

4/2 - Tried to drink Gatorade (was not paying attention that it was not sugar free and was my brothers regular Gatorade). I dumped immediately. It was quick and once the Gatorade was out, I felt so much better. I took 4 sips and immediately started feeling nauseous, sweating and my mouth filled with saliva. I learned my lesson to make sure I read the right labels. Slept majority of the day away. I just did not have the energy to do much of anything.

4/3 - Started my protein shakes again. They taste really sweet. It takes me slightly uncomfortable. I can take 4 sips. I am trying really hard to get down the protein but it is not easy. I just really want some chicken lol. I am so over protein shakes at this point anyway. Tomorrow is going to be my follow up appt. I just hope that I can progress to pureed/soft foods.

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

Have you consider bone broth for liquids? You can have chicken flavor and protein at the same time. Most natural/health food stores carry it already made. Different flavors too. Brand EPIC has a savory turkey with cranberry one. It was ok, but might be worth having on hand for something not sweet. I'll be getting myself these in the early post op phase.

    2. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

I have tried multiple types of broth and I cannot find one that I like. I just think broth is gross. Which is crazy because I love broth.

  9. Hi Guys,

    More updates lol:

3/30 - Went to the hospital to check for blood clots. I was getting massive cramps and pressure in my calves muscles. I do not have any blood clots, however I was moderately dehydrated and had to be filled with liquids before I left. The Doctor's also said I was potassium deficient. They reached out to my Surgeon and he suggested that I move on to the pureed stage and eat a 1/4 of a banana smashed up really good. As of now, my legs are not hurting.

3/31 - Had to request an additional 4 days off of work due to the what happened yesterday. I have a follow up appt on 4/4. I am hoping that everything will be good and I can advance to full pureed foods.

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

Glad it's all well after all. Keep on working it and take care of you're self. Reminds me to start eating some bananas as well.

    2. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

Thank you. I did not think about bananas and potassium. I was like my legs hurt all the time and what is going on. I had never really had that problem because I would eat a banana 3 times a week. I am not a really big fan of bananas.

    3. Newme17

      Newme17

I am not either. Takes a lot for me to want to eat a banana. But for the sake of health, I'll do it too. 🍌🍌🍌🍌🍌

  10. Updates: Sorry I have not posted any updates.

3/26 - Surgery went excellent. I was up and down, out of the bed. Enough energy to laugh and smile and walk around. Everything was awesome. I had a better reaction then everyone in my recovery room. I found out the hard way it was because the good ass drugs they were shooting in my IV.

3/27 - Released from recovery at 7am. I had an excellent recovery. They gave my mom instructions for me and she has been up my ass and around my corner in regards to it. I get released and we go to Home Depot and Target. Her saying is the Surgeon said you have to walk and I am going to make you walk lol. Love you mom. First night home was miserable, could not get comfortable.

3/28 - Took a chair into my shower and sat under the warm running water. BEST IDEA EVER! I do that 3 times a day. Helps soothe the aching. Had my first dumping. Surgeon prescribed pain kills with a cruncher to be mixed and taken like a shot. I have been sipping slowly throughout the day. I tried to take the shot and immediately got sick and puked. I called and told them what happened.

I have a breathing test tube thing and a thermometer to check my temperature 4 times a day to ensure I am not getting a fever or infection.

3/29 - Slept way better and got more comfortable. Will try my protein shakes today. So far I am getting down 5 sips of water every 30 minutes. I have to set reminders because I cannot tell if I am thirsty. When I drink, I get up and walk around after.

So far, just missing those lovely IV drugs. I was on cloud 92 and I miss that feeling but it could be worst.

  11. Just an update on the liquid diet:

    Starting Weight: 260 lbs

    Week 1: 251.6 lbs

    Week 2: 248,8

    Total loss: 11.4 lbs.

Not what I was hoping but I will take it. It is better than I have ever done before. Long live my achievement.

  12. Feeling a little defeated. The first week of this diet, I had lost 8.4 lbs. Today I weighed in just to see how much I have lost so far and I only lost 2.4 lbs so far. I know I should be proud and not use the word "only", because that is still a huge step but I was hoping for more. I was hoping for the same success this week as in last. I should have known better, this always happens. It starts off strong and then decreases rapidly.

Well I still have 3 more days, so let's hope I can make a comeback this time around. B)

    1. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

I have this fancy scale that tells you, water %, fat %, muscle mass and it bases it on age, gender and life style. I know that the scale is just a scale and the numbers is always going to be off but I want to lose the fat so my liver can be smaller. When I see the number, I associate it with my liver and how much smaller is my liver going to be. I would hate to have an open surgery or to have the surgery postponed because my liver has too much fat.

I am just panicking at this time. I think it is because the day is coming so fast and it is getting close. I starting to worry about what else can I can to make this process smooth. I just have to get out of my head.

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

One of those smart scales! Nice. I'm still kind of skeptical of them. Like how does it really determine everything? If you really think about it, how does it know what percentage of fat, muscle it has? Lol. That's my way of thinking. But hey, if it's good for you I won't knock it for you. 😊

Try not to panic. I'm sure you'll be fine. If you're following the rules, your liver will be cooperating. Besides, you can't see what's going on inside. I bet it's doing much better anyhow. Try adding fresh lemon to every glass of water you drink. Helps aid in detoxing the body. The citric acid encourages the liver to produce bile, which the body also uses to excrete toxins. In fact, I need to buy some!!! 🍋🍋🍋🍋

    3. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

Yeah LOL :). I purchased the scale because it was on sale, cute and I still have an additional discount. I really do not pay attention to the other stuff on there. I just really liked the scale. Sometimes I buy things just because. I am frugal and yet when I see something pretty and shiny, I will buy it.

  13. Day 6 of this diet is actually going really good. I am depending mainly on Protein Shakes today. I will however order a garden salad later since I can have leafy greens in my diet. I may just need fiber to kick this bowel issue I have been having.

Also, I should have never had carnation milk. Idk what I was thinking.

  14. Got on the scale today. Lost 8.4 lbs in 5 days. Idk if this is healthy or right but I do know that I am not hungry and excited that for once my hard work is paying off!!!!

    1. Newme17

      Newme17

I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that I don't have a sleeved stomach now, but I know when the surgeon/nut says "DO THIS, DO THAT, DON'T DO...." I'll follow it. But it'll be a battle and it's all going to be in the head! I won't let the negative thoughts/deception rule me. I say this, because when we think we're hungry, "head hunger" it's really deception. I don't like being deceived and won't allow it from even myself. LOL

    2. Newme17

      Newme17

I also have this feeling that I'm going to be a speaker/advocate of healthy eating/living at some point. So, I need to have it together so I can help and encourage others too.

    3. Sleeve1stFitNext

      Sleeve1stFitNext

I agree with you. My head hunger really tries to get me. My addiction to junk food always rears its ugly head when I less expect it. I have to slap my hand and shake it off. I will be say, "NO!! Teeara. No!!"

My surgeon told me this when I first met him, "Life is not about control, it is about choice. You cannot control how you feel or what you "want" to eat, however you do have choice to make a difference in yourself."

When ever I see junk food, I make the choice to stay away. It feels better when you have the power to choice another option.

  15. The following updates for 3/16:

    1) Did my stress test. They got my heart rate up to 185/bpm. We did the sonogram as well. I found out that I have a very strong and healthy heart. :D I got approved right there by the cardiologist.

    2) Went to see my new PCP. Honestly, she seemed very judgmental. She asked me why I did not take other types of appetite suppressants. I was like, "I don't know....maybe because the ones that I have tried has not worked." She then started naming other brands and I was just confused. I really thought that she was going to denied me surgery. I ended up receiving her approval after she did my blood work and a EKG of her own.

IDK. I am just glad that I am getting surgery.

My PCP ended up not taking my insurance anymore. I have been with this office since 2013, when I moved back to NYC. They stopped taking my insurance at the end of February so I had to find a brand new PCP.

I had to see her yesterday again and she was a lot nicer. Especially when I got on the scale and I had lost 8 lbs since the start of my liquid diet. I think she was a little hesitant about me at first, she probably thought I was some young kid trying to take the easy way out. She gave me great advise as well.

I'm glad she was nicer. She could have just had a bad day the day you were there too. I am glad it went well for you. I hate changing docs/insurances. It's very tedious, especially when you've got little ones; have to research and find good reviews, etc. But it seems to have gone well for ya. I'm glad.

Youre young;its no easy way out for any of us. But it's a fortunate way for you now at your age and that's a blessing.

I am glad that I have this opportunity, I did not think that people my age would be even be eligible for the surgery. I am glad that I made the discussion to check and start the process. I am looking forward to this.

Changing Docs and insurance really is a long drawn out process. The craziest thing is that the first time, it was soo easy. I did not have to do much of anything, accept read and sign some papers.

My surgeon actually referred me to her. I think they might have a crush on each other lol. That would be riot though. She is sooo serious and he is goofy. When he referred me and called her, he was blushing and giggle like a school boy trying to be cool. When she realized that I was the patient he had referred, she started blushing lol. It is funny.

  16. Today is the ending of day 4 on my liquid (greens) diet. I decided yesterday to visit my granny and little cousins since I was in Manhattan. Did not prepare to stay the night. I did not have any protein shakes. I ended up getting some cucumbers which are allowed on my diet and eating those. I had a 2 sugar free Popsicles, 1 can of carnation milk (fat free) with some tea. I finally found a pharmacy that had the premier protein shakes. The only issue is, between yesterday and today, my protein intact is low. I am feeling obnoxiously happy and I am not sure if I am delusional or what.

Yesterday, I only had 350 calories of food with a Protein intact of 18g. Today is much better with 390 calories but a protein intact of 40g. I am hoping that I have not truly starved myself.

Tomorrow, my goal is to catch up on my protein. I am thinking that the 3 shakes, and two cups of broth can put me back on track. I weigh in tomorrow as well. Maybe I will see some pounds dropped (fingers crossed).

  18. Started my liquid diet today and finished editing my video for my channel on youtube. I am soo excited. Shockingly, I have not felt hungry yet. I guess its the water and jello as well. I am just excited for my new life to start.

One of my co-workers told me she was proud of me for taking care of my health. I felt nice to hear those words. Especially since I am the youngest in my department. They normally treat me like I am child but recently that has not been happening.
