I had my surgery on 3.13.2017 with Dr Illan at the Oasis of Hope hospital. I have absolutely no regrets, have had zero issues or complications, and would recommend him to anyone. The entire staff was phenomenal during my stay and the care I received was top-notch!

My surgery is on Monday and I haven't told anyone at all. I realize that I may have to at some point, but I am a pretty private person and don't feel like explaining my decisions to anyone. I simply told work that I'm having "a surgery" and will be away for a week or two.

Definitely Jello. Watch buying too much. The only flavors I could tolerate after surgery was sugar free cherry. Some of the other flavors were too strong and seemed too sweet. Some made me nauseous.
I've always found jello too sweet so I used 1.5 or 2 times the amount of Water when making it and it helps to cut the sweetness. It's the only way I can eat it! -
I have had one for a few years and use it almost daily. I love it, but if it's just something you need for a couple of months, there are much cheaper options out there that will do the job.

@fatgirlfreed that's awesome!! Feel free to message me anytime and I look forward to meeting (and recovering with) you!!

My PCP is doing all my follow-up. I have complication insurance and I was nervous about going to MX. However, Dr Illan sent me home with my surgery video, labs, chest xray and leak test video, so my Dr has everything and Dr Illan will share his case notes to the Dr.
Can I ask which company you got your "complication insurance" through? I was thinking about getting something long these lines, but I was told I wouldn't need it. I've seen several posts where people had it, so now I'm questioning the advice I received.utahgirll reacted to this -
My husband just returned from surgery with Dr. Illan and my surgery is in 2 weeks with him as well. He had a marvelous experience!!! Dr. Illan has amazing credentials & a wonderful reputation.
I'm glad to hear this...I am booked with Dr Illan on March 13th so it's great to hear about other people's positive experiences! -
We have many BariatricPal Store customers in Canada and ship there daily. Shipping is really expensive. We looked at opening a store in Canada but importing all of our products is too costly and timely. We are working on a shipping option which will allow us to offer to offer free or inexpensive shipping options. We are opening a new warehouse in a few months and once that's open, you'll see shipping fees to Canada slashed dramatically.
That's great news...I look forward to it! -
I would just love to have access to all of the products that are already out there. It's hard to find a lot of products in Canada, and when you can find a company that will ship here, the shipping fees and duty fees are often prohibitive.
It would be nice to have vendors in Canada that sold these things - either in store or online!Alex Brecher and smyleetn reacted to this -

Mine is March 13 and my bday is at the end of March. It's getting real and I am starting to get nervous I just want everything to be ok. I have my appt today with my Surgeon and I don't know what to ask. I only told my uncle and my children that I was having this done ( I didn't want criticism from anyone else in my family). Amy advice or we'll wishes is appreciated. I only started the journey of surgery last year.

I'm also on March 13th and my birthday is actually the week before lol. I haven't told anyone at all yet and am debating who to share this with - I don't want to hear the criticism and second-guessing because I'm nervous enough already!! Here's hoping we both get through this with great health and great success!dknywins and shannon1980 reacted to this -

@shaylady08 I'm just relieved it's only 10 days! I've seen posts where people were on liquids for 2-3 weeks before surgery...I know 10 days won't be easy, but it'll be worth it I'm sure!!

A co-worker of mine had WLS in Mexico last year and told me she also had the Zoom teeth whitening done while she was in Tijuana. She said it was significantly cheaper than doing it at home.
Has anyone here looked into this or had it done? Any recommendations on a clinic/dentist? More importantly, is there any reason not to have this done in the days right after having the Gastric Sleeve procedure done?
Thank you!

Your story is an inspiration to those of us just starting out. Thank you for sharing and thank you for focusing your hard work on such a wonderful cause!!

I had my surgery with Dr Illan in March. I had surgery on a Monday, spent two nights at the hospital, then another two at a hotel where a doctor visited me daily. I flew home Friday morning (San Diego to Toronto so a pretty decent haul) and felt just fine. I've had zero problems or complications...cannot recommend Dr Illan enough!
