    Any April sleevers

Hey. There's been a lot of activity on the April Sleevers support group if you want to see more updates. I am 2 weeks post op and on soft foods. I can just about get a poached egg down but that's the absolute capacity even a sip of water on top hurts. So that's breakfast. I can also get a pouch of tuna down for lunch and then have a shake to make up the protein. They now go down quicker and don't taste quite as bad as they did in the liquid stage. Every day is better and I can drink and eat more. I went back to work day 4 and was walking a couple of miles a day. Got back on the golf course day 10 and was able to walk and carry bag for 9 holes. It's definitely a work in progress and I'm only down 14lbs but no regrets and very excited for what's to come.

    Anyone have UHC insurance???

Actually each plan is different. The best way to find out is submit a pre approval with dummy date. I'm UCH and had no supervised diet requirements just medical necessity at 40+ BMI. My first appointment was Nov 28th I could have had surgery as early as Feb. My WLS was convinced I needed the 6 mths supervised diets because other UHC patients had been denied but I insisted they submit which they did in Feb, they did and it was approved in 3 days UHC has many plans in many states for many employers each can be different.

Hey guys, Happy 2 weeks anniversary Hope everyone is doing well 2 weeks in. I still kind of have to pinch myself that just 2 weeks ago right about now I was just coming around from surgery in quite some pain, 2 weeks later the incisions are well on their way to heeling, the pain is all but gone (slight something if I bend down to the left probably the internal stitches) I can now eat a whole egg in one sitting (woohoo) and I am 15lbs down. My weight loss seems to be slower than most of you but I keep telling myself that's still nearly a lb a day which is way more than I could do. I am definitely loosing inches as none of my clothes fit anymore and I could actually fit into a regular XL at the shops down from 3X. Its definitely true everything gets easier each day. Taking in liquids is a breeze now I just drank 10 oz in 15 mins. Food is still a struggle but is getting better. I can each one egg or a pouch of tuna slowly in one sitting but that really is completely at my limit but its up from 1/2 an egg so progress all the time. One thing I need to figure out is stamina I just have nothing in the tank when I try to exercise. I am full of energy but like this morning I got on my stationary training and thought I would do 30 mins whilst listening to conference call but there was nothing in my legs no power at all and I quit after 15 mins. How is everyone else doing 2 weeks out ?

Omg I'd love that kind of weight loss. I'm down 13lbs total !! Some days no movement. Doc said nit to take any notice of first couple of weeks my body is trying to figure out what's going on. Things should kick into gear in the new couple of weeks. Whatever it's still better than I was doing in my own. Totally underestimated how hard it would be getting in protein by food. Feeling the restriction much more with real food. Having to do a better job of scheduling eating drinking and supplementing with protein drinks. I wouldn't make the protein intake on food along. I can get in about 1/2 to 2/3 or an egg. Or half a pouch of tuna. Still feel great walked 9 holes of golf yesterday carrying my bag. 18 tomorrow but I'll take a cart. Off ft to the shops to buy a few clothes to get me through the next few weeks everything is falling off me. Yay !!!

@Melissah74 Are you feeling any better today ?

That's a really good suggestion is there anyway to talk to your surgeon or their office. It's always so reassuring to speak to someone so experienced in this area. You need the protein for healing as well. Hoping you feel better very soon. This will all be great in the end.

Have you tried the Bariwise Soups I loved them and found them such a life saver from the sweet protein shakes. I had a variety pack and loved every flavor. It was so nice to have something savory and warm. They have 15g on protein in them. I am not going to complain for sure but its not so easy on the next stage either. I managed a mashed up poached egg and salad cream .. delish took a while but I got through. I tried this afternoon to have some tuna salad and just full up and couldn't manage more than a few small bites. Now I am so full I am behind with my fluids and down on my protein. oh well will try again tomorrow and see if I can do better.

I hope the doctor can help with the fatigue. I just saw mine this morning and he said that any surgery will take your stamina away so hopefully it just need time, but wow your weigh loss is fab much better than me. Keep up your positive attitude you'll get there for sure. I got moved onto soft foods so I am working my way through my first egg, poached and mashed up with low fat salad cream. Trying to take it very slow but boy do I want to woof this down !!! Doc cleared me to go back to pretty much normal activities so signing back up with Crossfit the gym and signing up for all my golf tournaments. Very excited to have got to this stage, still a long way to go but I feel I can start building a routine which works better for me and keeps my out of trouble and temptation. Good luck with the doc.

I sat on the sofa last night and was saying what a difference a week makes !!! last week I was just home from the hospital and totally out of it and in a lot of pain, still anxious of what the new norm would be like. A week later I had been to the driving range, ate all my protein, drunk all my fluids and done a 2 mile walk, my BMI is now under 40 (still a long way to go but got to celebrate the milestones on the way) I even sneaked in some soft food as a test and went well. First post op appointment with the Doc tomorrow. Hoping to move onto the next stage tomorrow and get signed off for activities as I have 36 holes of golf booked this weekend :-) I also want to start lifting again to get some muscle and strength back. Hope everyone else is doing well.

Anxiety about my surgery on 4/24

I don't fall into the category myself but having been trolling these forums for a while in preparation there doesn't seem to be any difference in success rate based on starting weight. Success it seems is purely based on making the necessary life style changes (which you seem to have in hand) and using the tool to your advantage. I am sure you will be a rock star and love what the tool can do for you.

Wow that is awesome congrats on the creamed food. I go in Thursday morning and crossing everything I get the all clear too also for golf and gym. Although my stamina isn't there I seem to be on an adrenalin high and just going stir crazy waiting to get out and be active again. 2 more days to go !!!
  13. Everyone will have their own path through this adventure but I wanted to share where I am one week post op for anyone like me that was pre op and curious Firstly the Stats HW 275 11/28/2016 (first appointment with WLC) SW 245 4/3/2017 CW 236 4/10/2017 Fluids 50-60 oz a day Carbs 65g a day How I feel today, very little pain, occasionally I move too fast or crunch my big incision too much and I get a warning shot of pain but it goes quick. Still lots of bruising but going down every day. My mind is full of energy I am ready to rock and roll this spring season but my body doesn't have the gas in the tank it used to. Maybe the 300 cals a day might have something to do with it I am amazed at how just a 45 min bike ride empties the tanks, but this will get better, but really need to dial it down a bit and accept I am not at full strength. I am off all meds besides the Heartburn and spasm aids since day 4. Went back to work on day 4 with a light workload back at it full time today. Work from home desk job. Next goals - get into more of a routine with fuel intake. I feel like its a non stop activity right now I want to get so there is more consistency on when I eat/drink so that I achieve the daily goals but its not all consuming. If I time the spasm meds with the carb intake I can achieve this much quicker, so I am planning 2 feeds a day, Protein shake then bari Soup and then Water in between. I do better with a routine I don't stray as much. Seeing Dr on Thursday morning hoping to move onto soft foods then and a routine I think will be even more important to me then. No regrets super excited for whats to come. Vacation in 2 months hoping to buy a whole new non plus size wardrobe for it :-)

I used some over the counter sleep aides the first few nights and got 8-10 hours each night. With enough pillows I can sleep on my side propped up with the pillows.

Sorry you had a bad day, hopefully it is just a small set back. Im off all meds now besides the spasm and reflux ones which I'm supposed to stay on for a while. I'm doing ok with liquids and protein I find I do a lot better with flavored water and ice pops are the best. Im down just over 6lbs since the surgery. Walking every day but definitely scaling back my expectations after today. I set out for 4 miles but called it quites just after 2 definitely down on some energy but hardly surprising giving how little we are eating. So ready to move onto soft foods hopefully next week. Hope you feel better tomorrow.

Every day feels a little better pain is much much less, water intake easier, bruising going down. The main pain point is the big incision, its healing but obviously its still a wound and will hurt. Jumped on the scale today and its moving southwards so that is good. Second day back at work and I think its helping with the boredom I was feeling, its keeping my mind busy and getting up and down from the desk is a good thing. Everything definitely goes down better when I am upright. Its finally a beautiful day here so I am going to get out for a long work in the sunshine. Hoping you get better soon.

woke up this morning and seems like the gas pains have gone so now I feel the incisions more but its all improvement so I am happy. I am back at work but I work from home at a desk so its not very challenging. I will take lots of breaks but the sitting upright in the chair seems to be a good thing. I did ok with liquid and proteins yesterday not on target but getting there. I am going to focus more on that today. The noise coming from my stomach is something else growling away like crazy.

Yeah I was 5lbs up on my surgery weight but with everything going on with my body right now I'm not paying much attention to the scales. I'm sure we just need to stick it out for a little longer to start seeing the fruits of our pain.

Thanks for everyone's concern on the NSAID, it is double and triple checked its even in my release notes instructions from my doctor. The worse part so far is the surgery gas they pump in to help the cameras have a clear view its trapped up in my rip cage at the back and its pretty sore to breath heavily or be in certain position but its manageable, just need to find the comfort position. The incision pain just feels abit like a really kick ass ab work out a few days before that is totally tolerable. The pain when first coming round after surgery was pretty bad and I just watched for the pain light to come up and hit it immediately for another hit but I got up to my room and to be honest I slept on and off for so long you are not really conscious. I gave myself some more hits on the pain button but really not bad at all. I was up and walking a lot quite early and after the first escorted tour of the ward I was able to get up and walk on my own whenever I wanted. There was an IV incident during the night where mine came up and for some reason they couldn't get anyone else to put one in for 2.5 hours to say I was a tad annoyed is an understatement as it was 2.5 hours without pain meds and really set that back a bit. I just did a 2 mile walk and picked up a heat pad for my back, my only discomfort is my back to be honest everything else seems fine. Getting the fluids in is no joke though, very challenging.

I was Tylenol only before surgery but post sleeve surgery aleve is back on. I know you can't take nsaids with by-pass so maybe that's the difference. Doc mentioned it a few times.

All clear on the swallow/leak test. Doctor came to visit and signed off in removing the IVs and ordered a clear liquid breakfast. Nice assortment of items so I can see what works. When you think small sips think smaller. Definitely some discomfort going down but it's all new and my new stomach and I will figure it. At about pain level 2 just when I move and it's 24hrs after surgery. I can go home as soon as I can tolerate a protein shake for lunch. Right now everything is looking good and my keenest to get on wth my new life is in overdrive.

Pain as bad for the first hour after I woke up then find with drugs until my IV came out and they couldn't get a new one in for 2.5 hrs during this time no meds so the pain came back. As soon as I was reconnected the meds got it under control. Went for swallow test this morning now waiting for sign off for liquid breakfast. I have been up and walking lots which feels good. Slept pretty much most of the day and night. Feel very energized this morning. Gas has moved up to chest from back just an inconvenience nothing very painful.
