There are several powders (mix in water) or liquid stool softener you can take right after surgery. Talk to your surgeon and he should give you your options that you can try out ahead of time to see what works.

I'm not sure if looking for the cheapest is the best way to go. I would look for the ones with the best results, other people's experience with the doctor and the after care should there be complications right after surgery.
  4. I have been allowed to eat everything since week 6. As long as I stick to my protein requirement, the rest is up to me. Also, no liquid diet for me. Not pre op and only 2 days post op. By day 4 I was eating solid food with restrictions. There are so many guidelines out there. Looks to me that the US is the strictest about the liquid diet.
  5. Yay for a surgery typ. And welcome to the bypass club. I'm sure you'll enjoy your membership!
  6. Finally time for my 6 months before and after pictures. I have lost over 90 lbs. A week ago I completed a Nordic Walking half marathon. I have prevented a second back surgery, and life is pretty good. I have under 15 lbs until I have a normal BMI. I started at 42.
  7. Wow, yeah, that doesn't look good. I need to pack more nutrients into what I eat. Hm. Thanks for this.
  8. Thanks! It feels pretty awesome. I know, right? I had to work out because of my back, but man it has paid off. BMR is what you burn by just existing. If you stayed in bed all day. RMR is what I should eat to maintain my current weight. Who knows. Goal is now to get under 25, and then drop fat %. When I'm under 25, I don't care how much I weigh as long as I don't go above.

    7 Months Out From VSG

This is me, my surgery was also 3/20/17, but I had the bypass. 5'5 female HW: 255.7 (2 weeks before surgery) SW: 243.4 CW: 159.6 GW: 150
  10. My suggestion is to take a step back, and kind of start from scratch. You don't have to jog, go for a walk. You don't have to do 40min, start with 15. If you do 15min 3 times a day, you are doing 45. And then slowly increase as your get stronger. You say you eat healthy. For a whole week, write down everything, and I mean everything, you eat, even if it's just gum. Eat as you have, don't make any changes. Then look at it and see what you can eliminate, one thing at the time. You don't have to do everything at once. Also, before you get approved for the surgery, you'll have to go through a whole lot of test which will determine if your body can handle the surgery. Also, you can withdraw up until they put you under. If you are considering this, maybe start the process and see how it goes. If your insurance requires 6 months supervised diet, then the only way around it is self pay really.
  11. At 7 months post op, down 96 lbs

    Help needed

Congrats on your amazing results. You have gotten some great advise already. If your diet is okay, you need to check your vitamin levels. If you are not loosing, you might not be supplementing right or enough.
  13. I'm hungry all the time....all the time
  14. A second surgery will never lose at the rate as a virgin surgery will, at the same time, you don't have that much to lose to begin with. Hang in there.
  15. Thanks! Yeah, no plans on stopping. Anything after this though, is a bonus.
  16. LOL this made me laugh. I try. I have days where it's nothing like this, but most weekdays are. And I meal prep because I'm lazy to do a lot of cooking during the week, it's usually only the last warm meal I cook fresh, the rest is pre made. Of course, it's interesting and fun to see what people are eating.
  17. I had a really interesting 6 month post opp (1 month delayed) on Thursday @Berry78. I should make a post about it. And yes, I am close to goal, under 10 lbs, although my surgeon told me to not loose too much more.
  18. Let's see. I'm 7 months post op, my NUT want me on more food because my latest BIA test also showed that my muscles are not getting enough nutrition and latest blood test shows my total protein is dipping. Since 6 weeks post op I have gotten all my protein from food (mostly high protein yogurt), but I now have to add in a shake a day to get enough. I get around 100g from food. Today looks like this Meal 1 - Oatmeal with flax seeds and pumpkin seeds around forgot that add that I have high protein yogurt in it as well. 15g and I a Iced Latte I'll get 22g Meal 2 - Chicken in Fajitas sauce and and 10g of dry pasta 27g (4-5oz) Meal 3 - Stew with lean meat, potatoes and carrots 18g (5oz) Meal 4 - Because I'm lazy, another stew 18g (5oz) Meal 5 - 125g of salmon and 50g of brussel sprouts 27.5 Meal 6 - Shake Without the shake I'm at 116g of protein, 43g of fat and 57g of carbs of a total of 1084 kcal. My nut wants me closer to 1400-1500 kcal. If I add the shake I'll get 141 protein, 46 fat and 64 carbs of a total of 1249 kcal. I meal prep so I know how much each portion has of everything.

    Slow and steady loss normal?

That is 44 days. When was the last time you lost 30 lbs in 44 days? I lost 33 lbs in the first 44 days after surgery. It's a good amount of weight loss. We started at the same place. You are doing good.
  20. I went to my monthly support meeting yesterday and got "yelled" at.
They think I'm too rigged with tracking my food, and I'm not eating enough carbs. Not that I should overload with carbs, but I should have more in the morning, and continue to eat a lot less of them in the afternoon and evening.

As for tracking my food, they think I can't continue like I do, and think at one point it'll be what makes me gain weight again. That I'm not on a diet, and that I should build a normal relationship with food.

Oh my! How unsupportive! Some folks (me) feel better when we have control. We are less anxious and more successful. That said, relaxing a bit after you've been post-op a while may be a good plan. I'm hoping I can!

I think the new set point will help keep things stable long-term, without having to worry about weighing things down to the gram.

But, at only 6 months post op, we aren't AT our new set point yet, and even if we are, we don't know it. It's too early to relax.

And, when I say "relax", I mean:

      Pre-op: Pajamas

      Weight loss phase: Tuxedo

      Maintenance: Business casual

At this point in my life, I must have read at least a million weight loss success stories and they follow a general pattern:

      1. A person made goal by religiously tracking their calorie intake.

      2. A person got to their goal weight by tracking, life happened and they stopped tracking, and now they've regained weight (sometimes possibly gained more weight than the last time they started).

      3. A person got to goal weight by tracking calorie intake, and they continue to maintain their weight by tracking their calorie intake.

Tracking seems to be an important theme here. Do what works for you.

  21. Right now I'm eating 150g (5oz) Skyr (high protein yogurt) with 20g of flaxseeds and a nectarine in it. In about 3 hours I'll have a 5 oz portion of stew (lean meat, potatoes, carrots and celery root) 3 hours later I'll have ground chicken fajitas with bellpeppers (5oz total), a little cheddar and some sour cream (No tortilla) 3 hours after that I'm having 100g of smoked salmon on a piece of Protein bread and humus And for an evening snack I'll have 1-2 mozzarella sticks That is around 1100-1200 kcal 112g of protein, 53g of fat and 46g of carbs A normal day for me is usually 1-2 cold meals and 3 warm meals. I meal prep and always have my freezer stacked with 3-4 options of pre portioned 5 oz meals to take to work and heat up. Without it I know this wouldn't have worked. Almost always when I make dinner I make a larger portion, so I can freeze the rest

    Really Torn

If you have heartburn, I would rule out sleeve. It will most likely get worse and you'll need a revision to bypass, I wouldn't risk it. Good luck with your decision.

    2 weeks out..not a pound lost!?

Completely normal. They pump you full of IV fluids at the hospital, your body is healing from surgery, it is all normal. Some people don't see a loss until maybe 4 weeks out. It will happen!
  24. I don't have treat for when I reach goal, I'm 13 lbs away from original goal of a normal BMI. But for my 1 year surgeversary I'm flying to the States to visit a friend and go shopping.
