    June Surgeries

I am having a revision from sleeve to bypass June 14th. I started my pre-op diet Sunday and it's not too bad. I'm starting to get nervous though. Not looking forward to having to do this all over AGAIN.. I had my sleeve done in Oct 2017, and it hasn't been a fun ride since. I hope this time it turns out better. I am ready to get it over with 🤨😬.. . Wish everyone luck and a speedy recovery..
  2. Great! Has it gotten better? Have you maintained your weight loss? Did you lose any hair? Part of me doesn't want to go through this again, but at the same breath I can't handle this GERD anymore. One of my teeth actually broke it's so bad. Was it painful? I'm just nervous but your experience has made me feel better. Thankyou!
  3. Dang! Yeah. I was the same way. I had issues not even a year out from my sleeve and was also on Ragland and Prilosec for a year after my sleeve. Nothing seemed to help long term. Unfortunately, my surgeon who had been working with me since 2017 knew after nothing else worked that I needed a revision. I had maintained my weight loss so she believed me when I was seeking help for reflux and severe dumping. Plus one of my teeth broke and another one isn't far off. Once I showed her my teeth she realized something was really up. The issue was we had to prove to my Insurance that it was medically necessary and that my symptoms could be proven on a series of test to prove it wasn't elective. I had to have a HIDA scan done to test my liver and gallbladder function, which was normal. I had to have a flouro swallowing study done, which was normal except for the hernia. I had a ambulatory swallow study done that showed my esophagus wasn't emptying properly and that I had severe GERD on top of a failed gastric emptying test. The most important test was my GERD test out of all the above. If I didn't get a positive test for GERD, my insurance wouldn't cover my revision. The other test just helped build my case. I'm not sure what your surgeon will require but if your acid reflux is as bad as mine you'll need that GERD test. I also had and failed the BRAVO . so as a alternative I had to have a 24 hour ambulatory ph test thst i originally denied, where they put a tube down your nose into your stomach with a monitor you wear the entire time that monitors your swallowing and acid reflux . It's more accurate than the BRAVO, and as awful as it sounds, it wasn't fun but it's doable. I'd suggest getting that test done and eating badly and eating spicy food w wine if you have it done lol. if you are paying out of pocket it may be up to the surgeon. But if you need to prove your case with insurance you'll need that GERD test . The 1st surgeon didn't listen to me so I saw one of his partners who was a women, who listened and helped me out ALOT. You know your body. Just do not go in complaining about your weight as the main issue for revision, . Make sure that it's noted as your last concern so they'll hear you out, and how even eating properly causing you discomfort. It was a long process. Hopefully it's worth it. Just be consistent and like i mentioned , that Ph test will be the determining factor and most important test to have if all else fails..
  4. Hello! I'm just wondering if anyone is scheduled for a revision from sleeve to bypass in June, later on or has already had it done? My revision surgery is scheduled for June 14th for GERD, rapid gastric emptying, hiatal hernia, and difficulty swallowing! I won the post op sleeve surgery lotto. I got it all! 😅🤣.. I'm a little nervous and starting to get anxious. So yeah..😬.. If you've had a revision, I want to hear from you. Tell me your story and your experience after your revision. Were your issues resolved? Did you lose any weight? Were you hungry? Tired? Whatever. Let me know your thoughts and if it was worth it... 😊😊😊

    Weight loss post pregnancy

I had the sleeve done in October 2017. I was 300lbs and went down to 185lbs and i was still losing. I found out I was pregnant back in June 2019 and it was unplanned. I ended up gaining a lot of weight and when I had the baby I was 252lbs, and I am now 230lbs. The pregnancy was hard on my body, and stretched me out and caused my stomach muscles not to work and I am now in the process of have a revision surgery of my sleeve to a bypass as I developed severe GERD during pregnancy that never corrected itself after. I think I would have lost weight if I was able to breastfeed, but my daughter being 7 weeks early made it difficult and I had no choice but to supplement with formula. After giving her a bottle she never wanted to breastfeed. When I was breastfeeding and pumping, I went down to 218lb the first few days after giving birth but my body wasn't producing enough milk . Probably because I couldn't eat or drink enough that was required for my body to produce the milk needed. thus my nutritionist told me good luck losing the fat stores w out breastfeeding. Overall, it was worth it and I do it again. I had just turned 35 so maybe my age was a factor too. However, I love being a mom. It was worth it and I'd do it again. I was told since I was 13 I'd never be a mother ( I wasn't heavy just had other issues). She's my miracle and she was worth it! If you want a baby, then have a baby. Will your body be the same. No. Probably never again. Is it hard and exhausting ? YES and YES! . Will you gain! YES! Will you lose it? YES! As long as you don't develop issues like me, do everything wrong like me, and see your dietitian which I didn't, I'm sure you'll be fine. Just don't use it as an excuse to over eat, and eat poorly or starve because you're afraid of gaining! I also lost my father 10 days prior to finding out I was pregnant. I was an emotional mess and did everything wrong. Do it right and I'm sure you'll be fine. Either way it's worth it. And Id do it again. She was worth every pound! Trust me.
  6. I have blue choice Medicaid of Sc . Not sure if it’s harder to get approval with Medicaid or not. But I don’t see why insurance wouldn’t cover it? It’s so confusing. I had my appointment and now my surgeon wants me to have a 24hr Ph test where I have to have a tube down my nose and it monitors stomach acid and liver bile?? She said it’s more accurate than Bravo? I feel like she’s just milking me for money at this point. I guess my surgeon said the issue with my other test is proving my sleeves caused them. so she’s claiming I need the Ph test to come back saying I have acid reflux or bile reflux to get approval? It’s frustrating... I’m hoping it comes back as saying I have reflux or I’m afraid they won’t try to get me approved.. maybe I should get a second opinions
  7. Okay. So I had my sleeve done back in October of 2017. I was doing really well and went down to 185lbs. I’m now back up to 235lbs. August of 2018 my father was diagnosed with lung cancer and passed in May 2019. So I feel of track and 7 days after he passed I found out I was pregnant which was very exciting and yet extremely difficult and I suffered from severe depression and just kinda gave up. I have always had reflux and issues with being sick to my stomach. My pregnancy made it worst and I have yet to lose my pregnancy weight and I feel stuck. So I have been seeing a surgeon about a revision. I’ve had several test done. I had a swallow study which said my esophagus isn’t emptying properly and a gastric emptying study done that came back as saying I have rapid gastric emptying, and my sleeve is only retaining 8% of what I eat in under 60 minutes. My Fluroro was normal and so was my EGD except for some mild gastritis. I just finished my Bravo test ( Ph test) for GERD and it came back as normal . I haven’t seen the surgeon yet, but was under the impression that if this test was normal then I won’t qualify for insurance to cover my revision surgery . I have BCBS Medicaid of Sc. I was wondering if anyone else had similar issues and were still able to get a revision or had any advice? I’m over the reflux and I’m shocked my test is normal.. HELP!..
  8. I'm on my 3rd week of optifast ... it kinda sucks but I found that if your drunk a lot of water, it helps tremendously.... you won't lose unless your drink water.... just wanted to give ya a heads up.. 😁
  9. October 17th! my first surgery and I am nervous and scared to death! Right before my birthday on October 20th... I will consider it the best Bday gift or gift in that matter, I have ever given myself...

    Starting to doubt

I'm right there with you. I went to my first support group meeting yesterday. A gentlemen that had gastric bypass a few years ago was one of the speakers. He looked amazing, He started out at 500lbs and is now 210lbs. so I was like dang, he looks really good! and i was inspired at first... what scared me the most was hearing his experience. He didn't fully listen to the physician and take his vitamins, and neglected to take his calcium. well he said ALL of his teeth fell out. I was sitting there like damn!!... I never heard of that happening before, and it was all due not having calcium!... and he said he mainly suffered from dehydration because you literally have to sip, or it really hurts and it came back up for him... unfortunately i haven't gotten to meet anyone who had been sleeved. I too am having doubts.... part of me want to do it for the same reason you mentioned... its scary... because there is no way of knowing what will happen the day of or after... part of I think just needs to stop thinking... I think in the end it will be worth it as long as we listen to the physicians and follow what they say to a T..
  11. Hi tiffany! I was wondering if you had your surgery and how it went? I have von Willdebrands disease type 1, and your story sounds kinda like mine. I was given the okay to have surgery probably will be in June, but I am a little hesitant because I have never had surgery in my entire life. so I was just trying to find others who might or have a blood disorder who had it, and how it went?

  12. Hey guys! I'm new to the forum. I have been kinda just reading everyone's story's and questions.. but I can't seem to find anything on people who have had weight loss surgery with a blood disorder. I had seen two hematologist but I still have concerns even though they gave me the okay because I don't feel like they really listened to me .. I have a very mild form of hemophilia that even though my test come back normal , I still bleed for long periods of time.. I was just wondering if anyone on here has had weight loss surgery with hemophilia and how it went or know someone who had surgery with it? I'm nervous because I have never had surgery in my life and most physicians wouldn't touch me even for simple surgeries like having my wisdom teeth pulled... Any information would be appreciated..
