I don't see it as being secretive.
When people ask me why I have one child, I tell them because that is what I wanted. I don't elaborate and say I have an IUD and I know how to keep my knees together.
My body is no one else's business.

Your very pushy. I say it again , " it's not my job and I do it feel responsible to do so" if a people catch a clue and realize I don't want to talk about it , they won't hear BS, if they push me...they are getting a BS story ...they shouldn't be pushy like you ,trying to be passive aggressive and change people's mind. Why don't you get a blog and shout it to the world, if you feel like your some kind of spokesman for WLS. I think there's enough on the web already.
stay strong and goodluck to everyone!

The decision was mine for certain. He gave me advice and left it up to me. He had previously had a bypass, so he knew personally about the topic as well.

I couldn't agree more. I to fully intend to keep my surgery private. Just hope my wife can do the same.

I'm almost 2 years post op and no one but the people I told know. My child doesn't even know. At this point my life is so normal, there is no point in telling.

It is an easy secret to keep as long as you don't tell people. The more people you tell the more likely you are to be exposed.

    So I've done it!
Had my VSG last Thursday 2/23.
I've struggled with my weight my whole life. Creeping up to 40 I've seen that since putting a significant amount of weight on over the years, I'm not living the life I want. My kids are not getting the best version of me.
But....I don't want to share this with the people close to me. Of course my husband knows and I told my childhood best friend who has shared similar struggles and is interested in this too. But my immediate family, children, close friends and co-workers do NOT KNOW.
Has anyone managed to pull this off?
4 weeks prior to surgery I made a vow to cut back and get myself in shape surgery or not. I gave up sugar and then subsequently all processed carbs just before I was approved. Then shortly thereafter started the pre-op liquid diet and just told people I was using my Protein Shakes as Meal Replacements. So it's no secret that I'm trying to lose weight...I just left out the VSG part.
Truth be told I don't want to explain myself. I don't want people thinking I'm taking the easy way out. I don't or at least I didn't want people trying to talk me out of it...and trust me they would have. I don't want people watching what I eat and asking if I should be eating it, etc. I've seen what people do and say for others who have gone down this road first hand...at work and in my personal life, and I'm just trying to avoid all that.
And of course, I'm afraid of failing. I have the can do attitude. I really see myself being a success and I mean life long. But there is that fear from my past failures.
Any advice or personal experiences from people who have been down this road would be appreciated.

    Hi Fabulous!

Sorry you can't sleep. It's exciting and when the decision is made after all that work for approval it's gotta be over the top exciting.

I'll be thinking about you tomorrow.

Take care and you're gonna do great!

    Sweet dreams.

I was the same way. It is hard to get the mind in a place to let you rest when you have such a big day tomorrow. Try to at least rest, even if you can't sleep well.
Good luck tomorrow. I'm sending you good thoughts.

Rny dawn... I agree completely. I don't understand why some people immediately go back to the old way of eating. I was in support group the other day and a lady wasn't even 3 months out & she was eating garlic bread! Of all things! bread. Lol.
    Good luck on your journey!

My brachioplasty is scheduled for 3/28/17. Now that it is so close the nerves are really starting to kick in. I have always had big arms and now that I am down 100+ lbs they really look awful. Here are some before pictures to show you what I mean.
I'm nervous and excited and just want to look in the mirror and see normal looking arms.

You ladies are lucky. I have really thick hair & one month & a week into this, I haven't lost hair. And I'm off & on with reaching my Protein goals. No Biotin. It's refreshing to see it doesn't happen to everyone. I hope I'll be like you ladies & not lose hair.

Thanks for the reply! I did finally break out of the 200's and now teeter between 198-200...I'd still like to lose another 25-30 lbs but it's not looking like that's going to happen Regardless I'm a much happier person now then I was at 324lbs!

5 days post op and going to a party tonight. Of course it's a pot luck party and everyone brings a dish. I have my bottle of crystal light ready. I haven't told any of my friends about this surgery and I don't think I am ready to tell them yet. Is it wrong just to say I am in a diet? Does that make me a bad person for omitting the big truth??

I use Milk of Magnesia anytime I have not gone to the bathroom by the third day. It works fast and effectively (usually within 2 hours).

Milk of magnesia, Miralax or dulcolax. Depending on how long it's been. I went about 5 days without bm, M.O.M. And Miralax did nothing, dulcolax got me moving then tale Miralax every other day since with a cup of tea each morning. No issues since. Good luck, I know it's rough but you'll get through it.

If I go once every 3 days it's a miracle. I am usually every 7. When I hit 10 days I take the violent laxative and plan on staying home that day.

I usually go everyday. I got stopped-up twice and each time taking a laxative has been brutal. The first time actually injured my incisions and I was set back weeks in my recovery. Couldn't walk for a week - the muscle spasms were intense and I took the lowest dose of the OTC.

Then I took Colace a few weeks ago upon some recommendations. HOLY *%#@, I actually passed out. Guess it's a possible side effect. I was woken up in the middle of the night, though - OK! I'm ready! I go to the bathroom and the spasms start. And don't stop. FInally I start getting super hot, like I'm gonna melt hot. I strip and now I REALLY don't feel well. Pretty sure I'm dying. Suddenly wake-up, still on the toilet thank god. I don't know how long I was out but I was out long enough for the sweat to dry and for me to be freezing.

So now I put Miralax in all my Water. Cause I don't want to die on the toilet if I'm being perfectly honest.
