I was a lucky one n only needed 3 mos with no weight loss requirement - whew!! BUT my friend had to lose 10% of EXCESS weight n not body weight - this seems more realistic for people already acknowledging they have a problem with food. The insurance companies really need to standardize preop testing /stuff so uniform for all. How can someone not need a preop diet and someone else need 4 weeks.. I'm only 8 days so happy with that but there sb a norm established and then have yr Dr tweaking for the individual,

I know u said no shakes but I just read somewhere to pour one into little round ICE CUBE TRAYS and pop them thruout the day!! Might be more tolerable for you?? The banana cream from Walmart is so much better than van/choc. Good luck

This is really sad The anticipation and preparation to surgery is overwhelming and VERY emotional. I can't imagine how you feel getting to that point & NOT having it done!
It's a major setback but don't be derailed by what's best for you. Strength comes at times we least expect it

I'm a newbie and can't believe this is a topic that had to be addressed!! I very much appreciate the shared info- how disheartening to see what some have dealt with. Wishing everyone success in 2017 -- Here's to positive, sincere, caring & informative posts going forward!!

There's always going to be NAYSAYERS!! We know it's not easy so who cares what they think!! I compare this to people who say having a Csection is the easy way thru childbirth to somehow diminish our joy. There's no medal at the end for HOW you get there - only VICTORY for doing it!! So good health to us all - We are not alone!!

Guess I've been pretty lucky!
BCBS -NJ didn't require 6mos or weight loss. I called surgeon for consultation- they took insurance info over phone - after benefits confirmed I made appt 2 was out to meet surgeon. Took weight BP n forms. I printed on line so they were all filled out. At end of my appt surgeon gave me a date 90 days later exactly!! I've been doing all tests during this time. Nutritionist said I start preop diet 2/14th for 2/22nd surgery. Only thing she had me do was try Protein shakes one day (4x week) and the Vitamins for post op. I didn't know the requirements could be so drastically different!! They need to get on same page for all!!

love Dr. Sadek & team...I have my one month follow up this afternoon and have
had nothing but a positive and professional experience. Went to him Nov 21st and
left w/surgery date of Feb 22nd...lost 15lbs preop and another 15-16 since surgery.
They keep their appts or reschedule w/no problem. EVERYTHING they did was "as it was presented" to me.
NO SURPRISES - Great results...Compassionate doctor who cares and wants to help you!
Good luck
