The issue isn't so much eating food that might be detrimental to your weight loss, but rather eating food that could cause serious and immediate health problems because of a healing stomach. To a certain extent, it is entirely the responsibility of the individual. But beyond that, others who may not have received a proper education as to how and what to eat immediately post op may see something like this, figure it's okay, and then do damage to themselves while thinking they were safe.
So yeah, if someone is determined to eat something they shouldn't, it's on them. But if they are leading others astray, that becomes a different issue. Besides, if you are going to do something stupid, and then post about it on the internet, you should not be surprised when you receive criticism or worse for it.

I have the most difficulty when I forget my Prilosec. The acid makes me "feel" hungry. I come to the app, read something stupid someone ate, then I'm fine.

I had my surgery on September 27th - SW 260, and just hit my 3 month Mark- CW 200. I did hit a stall period for a couple of weeks but I started going to the gym regularly and the scale then continued to move. The beginning for me was very rough but once I healed and got through the rough Patches, I feel amazing. This surgery was the perfect decision for me!

Pierogies, eh? I haven't even thought about them since my surgery. I loved them fried up in butter with onions. I guess if I made some of my own and mixed in some Protein powder, I could just about justify them.

I always feel like obesity is similar to food allergies, clinical depression, and just a host of other things most people haven't personally experienced. Some people just don't get why you can't just "cheer up". You know - haven't you ever tried not being depressed? Taking a brisk walk always gets them out of a funk, so it should work for you, right? Wouldn't, you know, not sitting on the couch eating donuts just fix your weight?
But then again, in addition to depression ("why would you need to take meds?") I also have serious and bizarre food allergies that most people don't actually believe in. (Seriously - try being a fat woman explaining that she's anaphylactically allergic to salad. ) The ones that get past the patent disbelief and really think about it usually begin to grieve for all the foods I can't eat. "You mean, you can't eat Caesar salad? What about lettuce wraps? Not those either?! What do you EAT!!!"
They're too used to people claiming allergies when they don't like something, just like they're used to people being down claiming depression, and people who are 20 lbs overweight being hopelessly overweight. So if you actually can communicate the level of difference, they kind of freak out a little. I've seen people finally understand what being celiac or having a life threading peanut allergy really means (niece and nephew) and just about lose it over the thought of never eating Oreos, or restaurant buffet, or soda ever again.
What they don't get is that compared to the consequences we're already
living with, a restaurant buffet or two really doesn't really matter. Is it frustrating to go to a party and not be able to eat a single thing there? Absolutely - but I've been living with that my whole life. And compared to morbid obesity (or, you know, anaphylactic shock) I'm willing to live with it.
But then again, I get stupid comments all the time And I try never to attribute to malice what can be laid at the feet of ignorance or stupidity. Hopefully your friend will see you living it up in your skinny jeans and realize the world doesn't end with her own experiences. More and more research indicates that weight loss, like depression, isn't usually an easy fix and can require drastic measures.
Sounds like you made the choice with eyes wide open for the same reasons as me. Hopefully we'll both justify our decision

Google "The World According to Eggface" for some bariatric appropriate uses of food on the puree stage. There is a lot you can do with high Protein meats, such as chicken, fish(was my favorite on that stage). Well done veggies mashed up/pureed. Mashed cauliflower tastes good and is healthy too. A lot of people puree black, kidney or pinto Beans and add a bit of sour cream and cheese...another high Protein option.

I haven't logged into BariatricPal in a few weeks and it's funny that this should be on the top of the list for current topics. I'm 5 days postop and I am really wishing I had some help with this pain as well. The Zofran makes me throw up and the Tylenol codine is hit or miss at this point. This post has convinced me to talk to my cousin about what my best route would be. I'm thinking a vape also bc I hate pipe smoking and I don't have anywhere private to smoke anyway atm. I have the sublingual tincture but I don't feel like it's ever helped much. I'm gonna try it right now to see if things have changed since surgery. I only partake in edibles when I can't handle the pain of XYZ. That time is now. Lol. I have the best candies too .

I don't smoke it and I don't have a patient card, but I have a cannabis-based ointment that I use on my neck where I have a pulled muscle. It's legal in California for medical use and was made fully legal by voters in November-I spent a great deal of time writing about it for my job and people will just send me stuff as a result, so I have a box full of candies and edibles that I likely won't ever eat.

Nope you guys sure aren't the only ones. I used to be a stoner. Now for special occasions although I'm all about it's medical uses too.
I'm barely day nine post op though so the thought of smoking hasn't really crossed my mind.
If I had more choices here I'd just buy those little vials of thc oil and drop em on to my tongue.

So, looking at this poster's history, she's consumed greasy chicken 10 days out, eaten Chinese food, pizza, had lots of drinks and the meal posted in the OP. She chose to skip the puréed stage and has vomited/felt sick due to her eating habits on several occasions.
    I'm sincerely flummoxed here.

I'm not a vet yet, no. I'm a noob. But I took what you and others had to say very respectfully and I have responded with grace. So you're comments a very much welcome just not the parts where you sound like you're on a condescending power trip about new people like me that ventured to try half slice of cheese before they ought to have or the girl who tried a broccoli cheese Soup. I took this rant seriously and have chosen to move on without issue.
Newbies like myself are great and everyone learns from mistakes (or they die ultimately if not). It's simply work in progress for everyone.
Everyone has been instructed differently and adhered to them in their own way. It is rightful to be concerned and upset but at the same time serves no good if we're gonna be harsh to one another and make assumptions about one another and about one representing all.
    Peace man, peace.

    I'm sorry for your loss.
I have big time guilt and your concern or expression of annoyance speaks to me if it's worth anything. I'm for sure going to fess up to my doctor on my follow up about my half slice of cheese at day 5. I don't think it's ok for me to cheat anymore just cause I chewed really good and seem to have digested it fine and I don't condone anyone else do the same. I was just posting honestly because this has been very difficult! But no it's not worth dying from complications.
And well what's done is done, at least your cautionary tale is a driving factor in my will not to stray again and in fact you may have saved my life in doing so.

sasharbinx reacted to mylighthouse in How many calories...
I was told by my nutritionist and also a person here that I needed to get my calories above 600 a day in order to lose weight. I lost weight the first 2 weeks and my calories were definitely under 500 a day. But then after that, I started stalling at least every other week until I could get my calories above 600 a day.
I started adding more Protein to my diet... I was not very hungry either. So when I did eat things like yogurt, cottage cheese or Soup, I would add unflavored Protein powder to them to boost my calories a bit. I also drank the Premier Protein shakes in between meals to get in some more calories.
Doing those things got my calories up into the 600's while I was on my pureed and soft food stages. Then I started dropping weight again.
Now that I am 8 weeks post surgery, I am finally finding that I am getting hungry and I am able to replace the shakes I had for Snacks with other foods like string cheese, cottage cheese with fruit and yogurt. Got my calories up to 800 a day now and I am still losing weight.

I think it's sad the stigma involved with marijuana. The way you had to throw the 'disclaimer' in before you posted your question. I mean, nobody does that with alcohol? 26 states have marijuana legal in some form, and I'm sure more will follow. It's SO much less dangerous than alcohol. My dad was a pot smoker and a drinker. Guess what he died from at 56? Cirrhosis from drinking. Yup.
That being said, I'm a very casual smoker. Like before surgery, a couple times every few months, to after surgery a couple times a year (2.5 years out from surgery).
I would just be careful newly post op. I think you should wait until you are at least fully healed at around a couple months or so. I ended up cutting way back on smoking it because it hurt when I cough (No idea if it has anything to do with surgery or not, but i can actually feel it in my tummy sometimes when I do), and I would get a little bit of the munchies, although not too bad. I have a hard enough time staying on track lately, so I don't want anything making it even more difficult for me!
    Anyway, my two cents

    Im a smoker...
    Im a choker....
    Im a late night toker!
(I think that's how the words go)
If you are serious. ....reeeally serious about ur weightloss, im thinking some tree shouldn't deter you. If ur bs-ing, a lock-jaw procedure couldn't even save ya...u digg?
I made "tea" on day 1 - broke down &lit up about 5 days after i got home from surgery...i went VERY slow.
Im about 7wks out now & im just on reg pre-surgery routine. I workout. Im logging every bite of food, workout, sip of Water (&every joint if u can believe it) on a food logging app & i bet there's A TON of folks on this app/forum choking as they read this..... Control your munchies...your ass gone be puking if u let munchies control you. Ur stomach is tiny & vulnerable af rn.
Bottom line is U know ur body. And I bet you have researched this surgery inside &out...so u know the signs of if something is wrong. If ur brave & in want, take a LIGHT hit of some reggies (sumn that aint too strong. Dont go rolling up some couchlock) and see how u feel. If good, go again. If not, stop. I would roll up a paper & not load a bowl or bong or blunt, pray & unplug.
I would NOT do this on day 1, 2 or 3.... My bestie scolded me for not waiting a month like i said i would pre-surgery.
Yes! A vape is a darn good idea...they're gentle.
