    Sleeping?

Only times I slept somewhat upright was the two days in the hospital. I slept on my back after that at home.

    Vitamin patches

I fell in to the patches and after about a week I felt awful. This was in the early stages of my post op too. So, I quit them and went back to the nasty bariatric vitamins and felt instantly better! Sooo....I’m not sure if all the hype of how they work is really because some folks are actually getting their dietary needs through food or they’re still living off the “stores” they had, or they’re just thinking they’re bodies are doing better (all in the head). Some say their blood work is proof but I haven’t seen a copy of anyone’s blood work to show it. Could also be a bogus testimony on here to get folks to buy them. Whatever the issue, they do not work for me. Finally almost year out and only need two Flintstone chewables, one b-12, one b complex, and my calcium. I can live with this.
  3. hey everyone. I didn’t keel over and die...just been awol from here.  Been busy getting another aspect of my life in order...finances! Lol. It’s been a ride but it’s good.

So, I’m almost a year out. I don’t have any numbers to give ya except I’m close to the goal the doc’s office set for me. I’m still going strong with my plant eating. Yum. So strong that my body rejects chicken. Lol. Okay, my taste buds rejected a bite of chicken I had at a bbq.

I guess I should get some numbers for the newbies soon, it always helps to see what you can be at a year out or more right? I’ll do it closer to my date which is the15th of May.

    Blessings to you all.

Thanks @FluffyChix . I’ll do my best to get back on more often, and definitely give an update with numbers and pics. I’ll have to get my husband to take some. I’m quite tired of my closet mirror and my phone in my hand. I want a decent pic and by golly, I’ll get one!

Glad to see you are still doing well. Keep it up!! It is great to show people all aspects of this journey by having people who took the same main road but when down different side roads and stayed determined.

I cannot wait for an updated photo.

  6. Always, especially early on. Stress, water, lack of sleep, even eating too much (which is almost impossible at 3 months but it can be done, I guess), can contribute to weight fluctuations. Don’t focus on that scale number but measurements as much as possible. Remember you’re still in the healing phase too. Stick to your program... It’ll drop.
  7. A very yummy salad. I used feta cheese and added mandarin oranges. Could totally be vegan omitting the cheese. I could eat this all day! https://www.cookingclassy.com/autumn-kale-apple-quinoa-salad/
  8. I looked to see if there was a thread created for healthy vegan/vegetarian recipes. I didn't see any on the first page, so I created one here. Notice I noted HEALTHY...because we all know there are unhealthy ways of eating vegan/vegetarian diet. We can share our meals and pics (if you have any) with all those who are looking to follow a whole foods plant based diet. Happy sharing ya'll! Don't forget to follow the thread!!!
  9. @Sosewsue61, but hanks for sharing this! @Sleeve1stFitNext, thanks for tagging me! I’m enjoying what I’m reading this far on the website. 😊
  10. Almost 10 months post sleeve, and I have noticed that it's time for me to add in one more lifestyle change on top of my plant based diet.  I have added IF, intermittent fasting, 16:8.  I was going to wait until one year, but it seems as if I've got to a standstill and I've got about 30-40 lbs to lose still.  For those who don't know, IF is not a diet...it's just changing WHEN you eat. I fast for 16 hours (mostly sleeping) and then I eat all my food within 8 hours (or I try to).  I work out during my fast as well for extra benefits.  I implemented it three days ago and I'm down 2 lbs now.  I used to do IF during my obese days and I was successful for three months, changing my body's physique and burning fat, BUT I wasn't successful in my head. I'm sure I probably got injured (as it was always happening then) and I succumbed to emotional eating as I always did.  Now, my head is in a better place, and I'm in control MOST of the time. Still not perfect, and probably never will be, but I'll strive to be so.  So, here's to a Newme...in 2018 too!  :)

@nursejackie, I know about the night eating...it's a habit I have too (I still struggle with wanting to eat right before bed). With the IF, I fast from 7pm to11am. Lots of water gets me through during the hours I'm awake during the fast, but, as time goes on, it gets easier to do and I meet my water goal. The first three days are hardest, at least for me. Since I wake up most mornings at 6am...I tie my fast over with a cup of coffee and about 35 calories of creamer in it which isn't enough to actually break my fast. Currently, I'm doing a moderate workout (bike, elliptical) for about 45 mins in the mornings before I break the fast. (I brought a banana with me the first few days, just in case my body couldn't handle it, but I was fine without it). The hardest part is trying to eat all my food in the 8 hour window. I felt too full the first day. Scaled back on some and felt better the next. Then I decided I'm not going to worry about it and just make sure I eat when I'm hungry. I do always try to eat something right before I start the fast again though. So far, it's been going well.

I'll try my best to update every so often.

  11. What really counts is your measurements in my opinion, I bet they’re moving. Don’t worry about it, it’ll drop and remember you’re fresh out of surgery, your body is healing too. Classic 3 week stall....don’t stress.
  12. A day of cooking for me. Guess I was in the mood! So dinner is now in the oven. It’s a new recipe I’m trying from budget bytes, vegetarian. But you can omit to cheese and make it vegan or use vegan cheese, I should think. Very rare that I make a recipe twice, so imagine doing mostly plant based for almost a year now and having a different dish almost every single time! Lots of variations. Anyway, back to the recipe. It’s a vegetable polenta casserole. I picked at each of the layers, pretty good taste separately, so I’m anticipating a good turnout with it all put together. Here it is: https://www.budgetbytes.com/2014/01/vegetable-polenta-casserole/ imagine the veggies being poured on top of the polenta/spinach mix and then the cheese spread on top. Sorry, I didn’t bother with a pic of it put together. Anyhow, it’s in the oven now. Smells pretty good in here . 😊
  13. Yum!!!! I just made this vegetarian recipe. Kind of threw it together on my own getting the idea and ingredients from another recipe. So I sautéed an onion, mushrooms, sun dried tomatoes, and kale. Added salt and pepper and feta cheese. Didn’t even think about garlic...man, that would have been good. Anyway, I whisked some eggs and thinned it out with some almond milk. Sprayed the muffin cups and filled them with the veggies and added approximately 1/4 cup of the eggs in each cup, maybe a little less. The first batch I put the cheese on top (see pic). The second batch I mixed the cheese with the veggies for more we’ll rounded tasting bite. Baked for about 20 min on 350. My thrown together recipe made 24 of them. They’re cooling off and waiting to go in the freezer. I managed to try one (I say that cause I had already eaten) and did but without being super uncomfortable (I still haven’t learned!!!). It is sooooo good. Nice and easy meal prep for breakfasts, that’s for sure!

Where does everyone live? (General area)

    Corpus Christi, TX

In Boston, at Fire + Ice...

It can be a waste if you’re ordering regular sized plates. Even the child’s plates are ridiculously large. When I go out, it’s usually a small side salad or I share a child’s plate with my 4 year old who barely touches her food. Sometimes I just don’t even get anything, but I still enjoy the outing. Have fun!
  16. Very true. I do not focus on proteins or any other macro or micro nutrients. I eat a lot of grains and legumes, leafy greens, nuts, and trying to eat more fruits. After reading Proteinaholic by bariatric surgeon Dr Garth Davis, it just reinforced my decision that I’m eating how my body is designed and I’m healthy on the inside...like clear arteries, etc. Dr Atkins is a prime example of what high protein and fat diets can eventually do to you in the long run. Sure, you may lose weight and/or keep it off, but in the long run, are you really healthy on the inside? He sure wasn’t. Another good source is to look at the Blue Zones. These folks eat primarily complex carbs and veggies and are the longest living and healthy folk on the planet.

    Anybody take motrin after sleeve?

All depends on how far out you are from your surgery. I stay away from anything nsaids even now at 9months post, but oh man, I would love to use some Motrin for some body aches, even today. I’d ask your doc when/if it’s okay for you. but I also read that with the sleeve the whole nsaid thing doesn’t really pertain to us so much as the other surgeries. “Sleeve gastrectomy and adjustable gastric banding tend to have little to no change in the absorption of medications. Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and duodenal switch can have more significant changes in how medications are absorbed. “ Most docs tend to limit the nsaids after sleeve for precautionary purposes https://asmbs.org/patients/life-after-bariatric-surgery

    Skin care

Nothing special I use but OTC lotion. If you want to maximize the moisturizer than I would suggest finding a lotion with essential oils or just buying some vitamin e oil and slathering it on with a regular lotion. 😊
  19. Oh my!!! I had a real good laugh for you too! I love your confidence and to be able to laugh about it. Amazing! 😂
  20. The weight on the initial consult for MOST is what is used for the insurance. (Be sure to check with your insurance to make sure there’s no other requirements regarding your weight). The only thing I had to remove were my socks and shoes for the fancy scale they had. All clothes stay on.

    Skin care

Hmmm....imo, not much. Being left with loose skin or not so loose skin is a factor of many things...age, how long you’ve carried excess weight, even genetics. Best to accept that it may happen. If it doesn’t, well that’s great. If it does, then you’ll not be too disappointed as you’ve already accepted it. Just keep it hydrated with lotion and drinking your water is my best advice.
  22. Ooh...that sounds delicious. I’m going to look that up. Thanks for sharing! update...SAVED! It’ll be one of my meals this next week. 😊

  24. I get to rest my case...this morning I tried to comment and kept getting NO PERMISSIONS. At first, I thought maybe it's a glitch and then I logged on to the website by computer and saw that the thread I was trying to comment on is in the Veteran's Forum. So, no wonder why I couldn't post. Thus, there is no way to tell what forum a thread is in on the app, under TRENDING and TIMELINE. Only way is to access the forums by subject is under FORUM. But if the TRENDING and TIMELINE and even FOLLOWING is like the dashboard of the app, it'll make sense to be able to see what the forum topics are for each of the threads. Make sense?
