    Severe Heartburn

Did you not have any reflux up until the 3 rd year mark? Did you take PPI’s that whole time too? What kinds of foods do you eat?
  2. Sweets! I was just reading our beginnings here and was thinking of you obviously. I’m happy to hear from you hon. You’ve lost a great deal, that’s great to hear, and you’re much healthier now for it. I hope sad moments turn to joy, because that’s what the Lord does, turns our mourning into gladness. Many of us have gone off for a while, but I’m glad to hear from you all at the year mark. I’m trying to stay on more as well...need more motivation to get to goal and to stay consistent with my lifestyle diet. I hope to hear from you more! Love ya hon!!!
  3. @patty0715 looking great and healthy hon! Great to see ya! We’re in the same boat. Wanna challenge each other to finally reach the doc’s goal? I’m 6 lbs from it too. Lol. I was also told to do more exercise!!! Haha. I walk about 2.5 miles a day, but he wants more??? I think I’ll just start with drinking more water. Ha!
  4. This is definitely one of the causes. I slid back and fortunately didn’t have anything, but I know if I kept it up, it’ll become an issue. Before surgery, it was so bad and I knew it was food related when my gastroenterologist put me on a bland healthier diet and it cleared up.
  5. Year out from sleeve. Had horrendous acid reflux before surgery and haven’t had one episode of it after!! It has been fortunate for me.
  6. It’s been a year, wow. So, I went to my year check up back on Tuesday. It didn’t go very well. I’m about 6 lbs from doc goal. 20 from mine. But he wasn’t happy it seemed. Not that I care too much about his feeling about me, but it was depressing leaving. Part of it was my fault, I felt like I had every excuse under the sun why I ate some chips or a cookie. He reminded me that I’m teaching my kids bad behavior too. No one wants to hear this stuff, but it’s good to be reminded. It kicked me in the butt so much, I changed instantly once again. Life has been a roller coaster emotionally for me the past few months and I allowed those emotional eating moments to creep back in. So, no more AGAIN. I’ll be changing up my children’s menu as well. They will eat just as healthy as I need to. Other than that, I haven’t changed much from the last pic I posted. 1/2 lb down in three months. Overall I’m over 80lbs down...which is INFINITELY better! I won’t complain and can’t complain about that! I suspect once I get my head and emotions in check here, the weight will drop again to reach my goal. So, I’ll give another update in about a month, maybe sooner. I’m trying to log back in here more often again. Life happens....
  7. @Kat410 enjoy your vacation!!! Wow, that’s pretty awesome, I’d love to do all that. And congrats at exceeding your expectations!!! Yay!!!!

    Little Green getting little(r)

@Little Green, tears were brought to my eyes for you. I’m so happy this day has come! Can’t wait to hear from you on the other side...blessings for you hon! ❤️😊

    Vegetarian

I do not do the non fat, sugar free stuff and never did. I eat vegetarian and vegan meals. I’m also a year out from being sleeved. I’ll tell you in the beginning it is imperative that you do focus on getting protein in though. I did it with plant protein powder. I did suck it up and just used some premier protein (cause insurance paid for it) for a little while. When I started soft foods, I had eggs, cheese, and mashed black beans. There are some threads in the vegan/vegetarian forums that can be helpful for ya, as we’ve all shared what we’ve done, had, eating, etc.
  10. Yesterday I was a year post-op sleeve. I had my appt too. Doc wasn’t too happy...only because I let old habits slide back in. These darn emotions!! But even being an emotional eater, I cannot use it as an excuse. So, starting today, I have to start journaling my eating to stay accountable and show it to him in three months. Now, on a good note, I am just 5 lbs from the docs goal. About 20 from mine. Totally doable. I’m not complaining...I’m down over 80 lbs from my highest weight. Let me find some pics to post.....first, got to get my child to school! Be back....

You can do this! And you've caught yourself before you did any damage. Awesome!

  11. Wasn’t self pay, but didn’t leave our country of Texas either!

    Update: 6 years post sleeve

Although I do not really care about high protein levels, I did start having a premier shake in the mornings (just cause it’s easier) and I’ve found that I’m not hungry for most part of the day. For me, I’m not sure if it’s a good thing or not just yet...I.e. getting enough food. ??? I’m about a year out and definitely see I need to work this much harder these days to reach goal. Good for you getting back on track...I could definitely follow you on the no eating after 8pm!!! Thanks for sharing.

    Finally 150 lbs lost!

    Great job hon!
  14. Almost a year y’all. I hope to hear from each of you. All is well for me so far. I’m not focused as I should be, but I’m good. Still maintaining at about 20lbs from goal...so I know I have to pick up the pace/focus at some point. Just not entirely the most important thing in my life currently. I’m still glad to be down though. I’ll post again on the 15th...I have my one year post appointment that day too.
  15. Not entirely true. I had the worse acid reflux before sleeve and have had nothing since surgery (almost a year out). @Brandi. glad you are doing well!!!

    Frustrated

Redmaxx I’m sorry to hear that. I’d definitely want to see a specialist if that is indeed the case. maybe Track your own numbers for a while and see if it’s consistent. ??? Maybe you had a spike in glucose for that day for whatever reason, I don’t know. But after losing 100lbs+ and having most of the fat out of your arteries, your body SHOULD be processing sugar normally. Unless your diet is high fat, that could also play role. High blood sugar numbers is just a symptom, not the cause. i second @FluffyChix, eliminate foods that would cause a spike. I’m even an advocate for Plant based diets, as this is what I do. Lots of veggies and fruits, with grains and legumes. Look into it. There’s a book called Proteinaholic by bariatric surgeon Dr Garth’s Davis. He talks about diabetes and the links to diet in it. If you have time look in to that as well. I hope you find what works and that it can be remedied without meds!!!

    Gave birth last night.

    Oh my gosh!!!!....

    Popcorn

Popcorn...yum. I love it and yes, I eat it...but I also eat a high complex carbohydrate and lots of veggies diet that most don’t or won’t do here. I had it maybe about 3 months out and have done well with it. And also, no acid reflux since surgery for me, it was horrible before surgery. I equate the lack of acid reflux to my lifestyle diet. Haven’t had one bout of it and I take no meds.

    Some new found courage

It’s never too late for a change. My hubby and I are about your age, and he just finished with a different degree last month. You can do it too hon. GO FOR IT! 👍

    Acid reflux?

    Are you taking your ppi?

    Periods after gastric sleeve

Oooh hon, that’s a long time to be bleeding! You should go get checked up on. I was regular before surgery and regular after surgery. I would say early post op some might have some issues in the way of recovery, of which you could be in, BUT that is entirely too long. Please do get a check up.
  22. Hey Dr Fluffy.... you’re looking great and you’re doing great! I admit, I skipped pages 12-31 of this thread...way too much to read at 12:54am. 😊 Glad to hear of a successful progress though! Keep up the good work hon!!
  23. So, getting finances in order, I managed to sell my 2016 Toyota Avalon. It was a beautiful car, of which surprisingly, I’m doing fine without and I actually don’t miss it; and also of which resulted in having a one-vehicle household, which resulted in me HAVING to walk 2.2 miles everyday 5x a week to get my daughter to school. I’m actually quite glad, I’m feeling better/stronger again, and I dropped almost $20,000 of debt. WIN-WIN!

Car debt is the bane of my existence. Wont do it. And I love Toyota...I drive (and LOVE) my 2015 Camry...so I know how hard that was. Absolutely awesome you're getting the walking in, instead. Love that so much! Also teaches good habits to the kiddo....which is brilliant.

Speaking of kiddo and cars..I've spent the last three months combing the web for a used car for my daughter. She has a summer job lined up here and needs a car to get to various labs and sample sites....and I won't let her go into more debt. (she has minimal student loans and will graduate next year with her microbiology degree)

I found her a 2008 Malibu from Tennessee, clean inside and out...with just barely 100K on it...and I'm feeling incredibly accomplished. $3000, we paid cash :) CarFax is clean, mechanic said it was in great shape and she should get a few years out of it yet. Very common car with cheap parts if repairs are needed in the future. Previous owner did a valve job and replaced timing chain, and all maintenance was done at dealership. Brand new tires and brakes.

It's parked in our driveway as we speak. Runs and sounds like brand new.

I can't wait to see her face:)

Lol. Cute...I like that “awesome sauce!” @Sleeve1stFitNext!

@FluffyChix there’s so much that I probably wouldn’t have done if I didn’t have this surgery! I’m still so glad I did too. I seem to work better when being “forced” in to situations. Lol

@Creekimp13, we’re Toyota lovers here. A former Avalon, and two former Tundras...currently on our third Tundra...and have always had a car payment! Ugh! We’re doing this Dave Ramsey program that’s making a lot of sense to us and so there went the Avalon. Also in the process of maybe getting a cash car...speaking of which, you were hugely blessed for what you found! Wow! That’s the kind of deal I want. I told the hubby not to buy one yet though, I’m enjoying the walks and the time with my kids walking. Definitely good habits being taught. 😊

@Mattymatt thanks hon! Its hard to be in the dumps when there’s a win on both sides! Yay!!!

  24. JUST SAY NO to celery and carrot sticks! I couldn’t figure out why I had this horrible gas for the past two days. I finally did a little tracking and pinpointed it to the celery and carrot sticks; foods that don’t properly digest will cause bad gas....  I don’t normally eat these things but they were good and I had a lot. Talk about gas meds, excessive burping, and doing body contortions to get the gas out! Ugh....never again.

    Finally back to normal! 😊

    Pics of meals/portions PLEASE!

I guess everyone is different, I’m just about a year out...two eggs and a pita would make me stuffed and almost wanting to throw up. I can eat one egg and maybe 1/2 slice of toast in one sitting. Sometimes just the egg. I mostly eat plant based, so if a raw salad, maybe 3.5-4 oz tops. If a bean/grain dish of some sort, 2.5oz tops. I can definitely eat more now (not at one time though) then before. So even though I may have 2 oz of some food, I may eat another ounce 1-2 hours later. So, I’m pretty much eating throughout the day. sorry I don’t have any pics to share!
