Pre op diet is not the best, but it helps with surgery. I felt much better with having my all liquid diet after surgery. I felt much more prepared. I'm only 2 weeks post op and just started mushies 2 days ago and the all liquids was not bad at all.
Congratulations on your date! You can do this! Keep us posted and feel free to post or message me if I can help!

I have officially survived day 1 of the liquid diet. It was rough, but at least I'm one day down. Good news is, I'm not the least bit worried about actual surgery and physical recovery, that will be the easy part compared to two weeks of Protein Shakes.

Hello and welcome! You will meet lots of people that know how you feel and are on the same journey. It's great you have your husbands support too. This is a total lifestyle change we have to make.
Feel free to message me if I can help you out. I'm 3 weeks post op. I'll help with what I can!

After surgery I have no appetite or cravings. I am only on puréeds right now and eat because I have to. It's not bad at all. You'll have to work on the food obsession, try to realize when you are really hungry and when it's just head hunger. It has been easier so far for me because I just don't feel hungry.
You'll get through this! Keep your eye on the prize! [emoji4]

I agree totally that this is in no way the easy way out. This will be a hard journey, but you can do it. I'm 3 weeks post op myself and never thought I would be where I am now. It seemed to take forever!
Just listen to your doctor and follow their program to the T. Every surgeon is different, as you will find out on here, but do what your doc tells you.
Good luck and keep us posted! [emoji16]

Don't get down on yourself because of one person you never met. Know that they missed out on an opportunity to meet a strong and capable woman. If you want to be upfront to perspective dates than tell them what you're comfortable talking about. Some people are pass judgements before actually seeing the entire package.
Smile and know you are beautiful and happy! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Good luck to you. You can do this.

Congratulations on your first step in what will be a life changing journey for you!
I'm only a few weeks post op gastric bypass and see changes happening already.
A few things I did to prep myself after I went to my seminar were:
Stopped all carbonated beverages because they are not allowed after surgery.
Started drinking 64 ounces of Water a day.
Slowly started a walking routine that I got up to 2 miles a day.
Stopped all caffeinated beverages because they can hinder healing.
    Totally cut out sweets.
Started seeing my primary doctor to start supervised weight loss with monthly visits. Most insurances require 3, 6, or 12 month supervised diets to see if you can comply and lose some weight.
    And quit smoking.

Every program is different for WLS, so always check with your doctor if doing these things are ok for you.
Good luck to you and keep us posted!

I'm down 20 pounds as of today. I'm limited on exercise because I have a broken foot, so I'm losing slower than I'd like. I'm looking to join a gym near me with a pool so I can get some exercise that way. I'm following my docs orders too.

    Hello!
I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op here. It is not easy to get in your Water and Protein every day, but you have to be vigilant about it. What I do is keep a Premier Protein shake and a bottle of water in front of me all the time. I set a timer on my phone for every 15 minutes. I have a 1 ounce shot glass I fill every 15 minutes alternating water and shake. I fill the glass and sip constantly for 15 minutes. It works, but it gets tedious.
My Vitamins are chewable and I take them 2-3 times a day. They are easy to get down and I just wait 5 minutes after having them to sip again.
You'll get in your own groove once you get used to it. It's hard, but feasible.
I'm now at 2 ounces an hour and it's becoming easier every day.
Good luck to you! Let me know how you are doing! Feel free to pm me!

You'll do great. I'm a little over 2 weeks post op and feel good. The first 48 hours were very painful for me. The best thing for it was getting up and walking. Walk as much as you can. You won't want to, but it's the best thing for you. Walk, walk, walk! That's my best advice! Good luck! Keep us posted.

Your time will be here before you know it! It's exciting and nerve wracking all at the same time!
I'm only 2 weeks post op and it came fast. I was so nervous the few weeks before that I gave myself worse GERD than I already had! [emoji23] LOL! Now that it's over I'm just trying to get used to the new feelings and sounds my stomach makes.
Just keep on track, stay on here, ask questions about it all when you have them. No questions are stupid believe me!
It will fly by, but you will be ready! Keep us posted here! Good luck!

Thanks for the advice! I never thought to contact my insurance company directly, I'll do that to see what the requirements are to set my mind at ease, thank you so much. It's nice to have the support of all of you during this journey!

Hello! I'm just 13 days post op RNY, but I do understand how you are feeling. Being nervous with this decision is very normal and is in no way "the easy way out". I had only a 3 month diet prior to being ok'ed for surgery.
I then met my surgeon and then all the hoop jumping began! I started on November 2nd, 2016 and had my surgery on June 21st, 2017.
Understand this though, every doctor and insurance company are different in how they approach WLS. If you have questions about your insurance, call them and ask. I found out my doctors office misinformed me about a lot of what my insurance covered and such. I called both my insurance company and my doctor and set my mind at ease.
Remember this is a tool and not a cure, but you have come this far and you will do great! Keep educating yourself, stay positive, and believe in yourself! You can do this and we are all here to cheer you on! We all understand how you feel and where you are coming from. You're not alone! Feel free to message me if I can ever help! [emoji16]

Oh, you're welcome! We're in this together! I love to journal, so I've began a "Daily Encounters" journal to document my thoughts, feelings, questions, during this time. I include my food and Water intake and exercise. I've also created a binder to include any article that I've read that was helpful to me. I also include the notes from my doctor visits and all of the paperwork/documentation received from all of my appointments.
You can only take this one step at a time, day by day. I am on this journey alone. I've learned early on that everyone is not "for" you or always want to offer their opinion on why you shouldn't have the surgery. See, they look at it as cosmetic only; they don't understand the daily battles we face with our health and being overweight. They don't understand that surgery was not a quick decision for us or the "easy way out," as someone told me.
Please feel free to reach out anytime! We are all here for support!

Yes, I've had these thoughts, as well. During this journey, it is important that I maintain a positive outlook and perspective. With that being said, I will use this time to learn all that I can, not just about the surgery but about myself, as well. What is my relationship with food? When did I begin this way? How am I emotionally? Exercise? What is my reason for not doing so? I have a 6 month delay...I am using each test, each dr. visit, each new way of eating as a tool for success even if I am not approved for surgery.
My BMI is 38, I am a person with diabetes, GERD, PCOS, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. The surgery is not the end all, be all. It is a tool that I must work along with the other tools in the box. Therefore, if I happen to not be able to use the surgery tool, I will take all that I learn (the other tools) and make them work for me.
I say put your best effort forward and use this time to prepare for a lifestyle change even if surgery is not approved for you. Replace every negative thought with a positive one. Anxiety and uncertainty are real. However, use it to your advantage!
Wishing you success in your journey, it truly is a Daily Encounter (now you know why I've chosen this user name for this forum).
