Thanks for all the info. I have another question. I'm not interested in smoking it, and edibles are out of the question since it sounds like they don't come sugar free. I saw a few people mention vaping it, is that like regular vaping? I've tried vaping (0 nicotine since I'm not a smoker) so I have a vape pen, does it work like that? I made my own vape juice, is there like marijuana oil or something I could put in that and vape that way? Or is pot vaping completely different?

definitely not a regular marijuana user. Yet I was able to smoke some for my birthday. It was as normal as it ever was, come to fact that i smoked it 4 months post op..it felt regular yet it may have hit me harder than before.. that might have been dependent on the quality of the marijuana though.

I am a medical marijuana patient that is post op 3 months. I still get the munchies but it helps that it's a mental rather than physical feeling so I can usually get by with liquids. I have seen no change in my tolerance for marijuana though I have seen a change in tolerance for alcohol.
I always smoke it. I can't do edibles since I had a rather unfortunate overdose that led to extreme vomiting. I generally have a puff or two to relax and maybe a couple of more to sleep. Typically I mix a high-cbd strain with a pinch of high THC strain 4 pain management. I recently tried dabbing and that knocked me on my butt. Though a dab of CBD meds works really well.

Right now, I've been taking a lot of pills that a few puffs of marijuana would take care of. I eventually will start up again, but I just wanted to make sure I had a handle on this thing first. Dr. says I have to take one pill, wait 10 minutes, then take another. It takes soooooo long. I have fibro and some other auto-immune issues that marijuana seems to help.

I was told in my class you needed to be off of it a month prior to surgery. I just quit before that because I'm a paranoid s.o.b. lol I was terrified of hurting my chances at getting my surgery so I quit before they told me that just to be safe. In the long run being uncomfortable physically was a better choice for me then spending those months tripping on the possibility of sabotaging myself. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I vaped this weekend about 3.5 weeks post op. The cannabis hit me the same way, which meant I got the munchies. I didn't do a good job of controlling myself and ate to the point where I was uncomfortably full. I was hoping the need to eat wouldn't be as strong, but it is. Other than that, I have almost no desire to eat.
Funny thing is that used to mean an entire pizza plus donuts or something like that. This time it meant 2 oz of chicken salad and I couldn't resist the half of a deviled egg that put me over the edge. What was most concerning is that even when my stomach was clearly full, my head wanted more. I know myself and I'll keep pushing the limit of what my stomach can do when I'm high.
I think I'm going to have to stop. I knew it was a possibility that I'd have to quit. Being healthy is more important than the weed but it's a bummer because I do enjoy it.

Fellow Chronic Chic right here yo! lol! I use it everyday. No adverse effects. Do I still get the munchies?? every now and then, guess what? I eat some chicken. lol! I'm losing weight, losing a ton of inches and have not had any problems. I started smoking it again at about 3 weeks and I was able to ingest it after my 3 month healing mark. That was a personal choice not a directive from anyone.
It helped with pain, nausea and depression my first 6 weeks after my 2 week hiatus. Didn't have any interest in it before then either.
I love it, if you have any questions feel free to ask! Also, I haven't found any negative reactions when I've posted about it. but this thread is long and I haven't had a chance to read all the replies yet. lol!

I think muchies wise, planning out beforehand such as getting a little bowl of veges/fruit would probably solve that senario for us all. Just eat slowly lol. I wish you the best of luck ♡♡♡

First things first, I am not some lazy stoner with no life, no. I am a very productive medical marijuana user who mainly smokes at night before bed and yes, I have priorities and a life lol.
(sorry I just always get negative feedback, mainly from some family members I told and probably should have never told lol still love em though.)
My questions are, how is your funtion with marijuana after being sleeved/bypassed? Were you able to use it for pain relief/sleep aid directly after surgery? Are you less tolerable? Do you get the "munchies" still? Did you smoke it or take an alternative route?
Just curious, sorry if I offend anyone. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea but, I promise I am not a terrible person lol ♡♡♡♡♡

I smoked up till the day before surgery with no issues. I did tell my anesthesiologist though, he didn't care. lol!
I started up again after 2 weeks. Things to be careful of, coughing causing pain in the surgery area (If you have a hernia repair, this will be worse. I did. lol), smoking can cause worse acid reflux. but as long as you are on acid meds and wait to smoke till after 2 weeks of healing, you should be fine.

I know where you are coming from and honestly, he is probably more worried about losing you once you gain more confidence in yourself. Insecurity and being overweight a lot of the time go hand in hand, we all have our insecurites. Just try to keep him rest assured that you love him and only him and he doesn't need to worry because hes got your heart ♡♡♡ My hubby was nervous about me getting it also, but I reminded him that if I wanted someone else, I wouldn't need to lose weight to gain balls and leave, I'd have done it already lol. Just show your baby some lovin, everything will be okay Good luck and congratulations !

Hey everyone! I just thought I would share my story with everyone who has had bariatric surgery or who is considering it. I say if you are considering it and can afford to do it, then do it! I have absolutely no regrets. My weight loss journey has helped me in so many ways. Now I know getting surgery is not an easy decision. I struggled with this for about a year before I fully dedicated to doing it. In my mind I would go back and forth yes, no, yes, no, until finally I decided you know What? I am the only person holding myself back. So I decided to finally get it together. I stopped drinking soda, quit smoking, and lost about 20lbs before my surgery by going on the Atkins diet. Once I lost the weight on my own and had quit smoking for 6 weeks I was able to set a surgery date. It was so nerve racking because surgery of any kind is just scary for me. But it went very well and I woke up just fine. Very sleepy but so happy to have gotten it over with! The hardest part of the post op for me was the diet transitions after the surgery. For example: the liquid diet, puree diet, soft foods diet. Also, re-training your mind is very very hard. Instead of thinking oh I need all of this food to fill me up, it was now oh I just need this small portion. The mental part of the journey for me was the hardest but yet the best thing about the surgery. As much as I still love food (as in I'm trying new things) I'm not thinking I'm in a rush to eat or just thinking about food all day. That's just not the case anymore which is amazing. Since my surgery on May 2nd 2015 I have lost 103lbs. I have so much more confidence. My relationship with myself has grown through the roof. I no longer look in the mirror and think ew. I'm no longer afraid to go out in public. I push myself more to do things such as hiking and outdoor activities. It's been an amazing journey and I can't wait to see where the rest takes me. ❤

I quit smoking it like 2 months before my surgery and took it back up about 3 weeks post op. I too am a medical marijuana user and I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing but my tolerance is so ridiculously low now that it doesn't take much for me to find my moon boots these days lol. I'm not thinking that has anything to do with surgery but the break I took. Also I've noticed where as before I really loved sativa I generally go for an indica strain now. I've got into the habit of drinking fluids instead of indulging in the munchies that can follow. Other than that life is basically back to normal just making informed decisions about what I'm eating and eating a lot less. A good rule of thumb when going into anything after having this surgery is listen to your body- know when enough is enough when eating, smoking, etc. You're going to be alright.

I live in Washington State where recreational weed is legal and stigma around using marijuana is dwindling. My doctor advised to stay away from alcohol for at least two months post-op so I've been stone cold sober for more than a month now (including pre-op diet phase). I've also wondered if marajuana is a "safe" alternative to drinking post-surgery.
