I like Premier Protein. They are at Sam's Club & Walmart. I like the chocolate pre-mixed ones. At Sam's, they are $1.36 each (at least in Texas)

This may sound dumb, but exercise really does help to keep your weight loss moving along.
Just a few weeks ago I was on this forum whining about my weight loss slowing down a couple of weeks after my November 9th surgery.
I started swimming for 30 minutes each morning before work on November 29th when I was 412 pounds and after 2 weeks of swimming I'm down to 398. That's 72 pounds since October 26th. The swimming WORKS!
I'm sure if I was walking everyday for 30 minutes it would be just as good. My point is, we need to exercise. The weight loss won't happen by just following our diet plan. Just get up and do it.

I have only weighed myself once since my surgery because of the swelling and three week stall so many people talk about. I'm going to weigh myself on my one month surgerversary. I made myself a picture board where I'm going to post my picture each month so I can see the change.

Has anyone else had the sleeve surgery and gone home the same day? I have been seeing a surgeon that has an excellent cash price and finally got my surgery scheduled. But now I find out that I'm expected to go home the same day. I have never heard of this. This surgeon comes highly recommended and I've seen several on this app that use him. Will I be ok to go home after just having sleeve surgery?

Stacey99 reacted to MowryRocks in Changing My Strategy
Earlier today I posted a then/now style picture to a bariatric FB group and to my own personal FB page. I see myself small changes but I do not see the major difference that other people seem to gush over. I know it's there, because I am down sizes and the clothes I can't seem to part with drape like crazy. I like to do the side by side pic just to see and today it kinda floored me.
As soon as I posted, I got the "You look amazing" "You look fantastic". In my head, I followed up every compliment with "in comparison".
Because of this, I am changing my strategy. This journey is NOT about how I look, it's about changing my life and how I feel in my own skin.
So from now on, I will no longer tell anyone they look amazing. If you're getting a compliment from me it will be "You look like you feel fantastic.

I spent the night in the hospital but wish I could have gone home instead. Was out by 11am the next day.

Lots of the WLS places around here do same day surgery. My guess is that most people do fine with it or they wouldn't do it, it does save money.
I stayed 2 nights on a morphine pump. I am glad I did, but I am the odd person around here. I had zero pain and minor nausea but I still felt week and shaky. My bedroom is upstairs and even 3 days post-op I worried about climbing the stairs. Also, lots of people sleep in a recliner for a few days because they don't want to lay flat or accidentally roll over on their stomachs. Those adjustable hospital beds are nice.
My guess is you will do fine though.

I had VSG on 11/14 @ 7:30 am. I dealt with quite a bit of gas discomfort and nausea in recovery. I received meds to treat that. (Keep in mind, I had to comprehension of time for several hours, lol) Also, when I got up to walk the first time, I was HORRENDOUSLY nauseated. Again, got more meds and that knocked it out. By 1pm I was up in bed eating ice chips and sipping Water. By 1:30 I was walking around the nursing unit. By 3:30 I was discharged and at 4, I was picking my kids up from daycare (with my husband).
After the initial nausea/gas pain was resolved, I had a text book perfect recovery. I'm glad I could sleep in my own bed that night! =)

I had surgery on Halloween. The first 2 weeks I only weighed at my 1 and 2 week follow up appointments with the surgeon. Since then I only weigh on Mondays. I plan to keep just weighing once a week forever if I can.
Most people weigh every day and our weight fluctuates daily. Then they will beat themselves up about what they did "wrong" the day before. They also say they are in a "stall" if the scale stays the same for 3 or 4 days. It is ridiculous to call that a stall. A true stall would last a lot longer than that.
The way I see it is I am doing everything I am supposed to be doing. I can hardly eat anything, if the scale doesn't go down there is no way I could eat less. I probably need to be eating MORE but at this point I can't. So what would a "bad" reading on the scale do for me??
I am losing great by the way

Stacey99 got a reaction from scootysmama in I don't want to weigh!
It may seem odd, but I don't want to weigh after my surgery (hopefully in the next month). I just have issues with the number and when I'm dieting , I could lose 3-4 pounds in a week but I'm never satisfied with the loss. I always think it should be more and then I just give up. At most, I'd like to weigh once a month but is there a need to document the weight loss more frequently? I'd like to just follow the doctors orders and judge my success on how my clothes fit but is that realistic?

Why do you have to have a sleep study? Does your insurance require it or just the doctor? I guess I don't understand why you'd need to find out if you have sleep apnea right before surgery because losing the weight would remedy the sleep apnea (most likely).

Stacey99 reacted to Fit4HisGlory in Lost 16 lbs in one week!
Just in the first week of my pre-op diet I have lost 16lbs. and my fasting BS has gone from 119 (pre-diabetic) to 89 (normal). I am stoked!! The fatigue, dizziness, and diarrhea stopped around day 4 and I am just enjoying feeling so well. I kept away from everyone on Thanksgiving so that I wouldn't be tempted. Since I'm a widow and my kids are grown and out of the house, I'm sure it's been easier for me than for those of you who have to cook for your families. I gained 90% of this weight over the last 7 years since my husband was killed by a drunk driver. I've always struggled to keep weight off but when I lost him I went into such a horrible depression that all I did was eat and sleep. It's time to get my life back. I'm only 48 years old and I want to chase my grand babies! With this surgery as a tool and God's help, I know I can!
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
