Rmmosley reacted to Margie122 in My birthday, 16 months post op
Hello everyone!
Today is my birthday....yay me! I am so blessed to be 16 months post-surgery. Had the gastric sleeve on 8/17/2015 and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I am down 125lbs, and I feel great. I have gone from a tight size 22W to a 12. If I ever had skin surgery I would probably be a size 10. I am 5'10. I don't know if I will ever have skin surgery, it's not so bad. My body is my body and I am ok with how I look. I might get it done in the future, I haven't ruled it out. I also went back to school to pursue my Bachelor's Degree. I should be done by June of 2018. I'm taking one class per semester (they are accelerated semesters) because I have so much going on. I'm really enjoying the work.
There are so many things I can do now that I couldn't do before the surgery. I can walk and walk and walk and even run when I need to. Going up and down stairs is no problem. I have so much more energy. I can cross my legs, fit in a standard seat, get into a booth, etc. When I see my reflection sometimes I can't believe that the person looking back is me.
It's been such a journey these past 16 months. I am in a great bariatric program and I owe the fine people at St. Elizabeth's a kudo's! My nutritionist and surgeon are awesome. Since having surgery a friend of my family decided to have it done and he is down over 100lbs since August of this year. A cousin of mine just reached out and is thinking of having it done too. It would be wonderful for her because she has so many weight related health issues. I feel great being able to help them on their journey.
I hope everyone is having a great day.

Rmmosley reacted to Hammer_Down in Nausea
It comes and goes.
I am in my 5th week post op and I still occasionally have bouts of nausea. They tend to pass pretty quickly, and a drink of Water and sitting down for a few mins will usually help it pass.
If it's linked to something you're eating or drinking, that could be your body's way of letting you know that you're not ready for that food or drink yet.
Also, monitoring your blood sugars (get a cheap meter and some strips for about $30) may allow you to see how certain foods are affecting you.
I still have pretty low energy, so climbing the 3 stories to my apartment while toting my groceries and duffle bags can bring on some light headedness and nausea. Again, a glass of Water and taking a seat for a few minutes helps it pass quickly. I haven't actually vomited since surgery (except once about 6 hours post op while I was coming off the anaesthetic).

Has it stopped? How far out from surgery are you?
I will also ask are you at goal with drinking fluids? The reason I ask is this in itself will make you feel like absolute crap and it is a vicious circle.
If you dont drink you get dizzy, nauseous, headache, weak and overall crappy feeling. Start sipping......

Rmmosley reacted to James Marusek in Walking
After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I walked 30 minutes each day. This is the recommended amount. Before surgery I would get hot, sweaty and get a little winded doing this exercise. At 2 weeks post-op, my body was performing much like it did during pre-op.
Now I am 3 years post-op, and my body is performing very differently.

When I was experiencing the faint feeling, I started drinking more Water and, THANK GOD, I have not felt that anymore. And I agree take short walks, and don't push yourself to hard. BETTER SMALL AND SAFE, THAN ATTEMPTED LONG AND HARM

Trust me it's normal to have these feelings. My sleeve date is Dec 7 and I've been thinking why I'm doing this. 1. I want to be healthier, 2. Want to be happier and maybe find my partner. 3. Enjoy life better. We r here to support each other. Good luck

Things will and do get better, your body is adjusting to the new you. Don't rush the re-feed stages, if the next stage makes you feel sick then go back to the stage you were previously on. I had a horrid time for weeks 2/3 but things are now calming down. I also reduced the pureed foods down to 150 ml and that greatly helped, good luck and God Bless.

I think the best advice I've heard lately is to remember you made this decision of sound mind. You educated yourself on the choices and this is what came up as the right choice. Don't give up!
