  1. Had my gastric sleeve surgury on 12/28. I have lost about 15 pounds since surgery but have hit a stall. It is soooo frustrating! Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

Just be patient. It sounds like a pat answer, but it is literally the only thing you can do to crush the dreaded 3 week stall!

  2. Boy has it been a long time since I visited this site!  A lot has happened since my surgery date.  My frequency of use prior to surgery was all thanks to a pretty meaningless desk job that I was laid off of as of December 1.  In the meantime, I have dealt with the triumphs and struggles of recovering from surgery, learning my new stomach and body, and trying to find another full time job.

Just in case anyone is actually interested in my progress, here it is!  This week is my seventh week since surgery.  HW:  310, SW: 280.1, CW: 254.9  NSVs:  My back fat doesn't rub together while I walk.  I can no longer fit my size 24 skinny jeans, as they have turned out to be more like size 24 baggy jeans.  I have never been more hydrated in my life. I am able to walk up a flight of stairs without wheezing.  I can workout for longer without needing an inhaler.  I have lost countless inches all over my body.  I fit into clothes from my honeymoon in July of 2015 better now than I did then.

Getting exercise is, and always will be, a work in progress.  Taking my medicines religiously leaves a bit to be desired.

If anyone is interested in a more in depth description of my recovery, please let me know!  Hope everyone is well!

  3. I just want to give a New Year update...

I  don't deal with this site any longer..'cause of all the drama from a few people on it...however I have reached my goal weight 185 lbs..from my surgery in May 1st.

I am holding well had my six month follow ups with the dietitians...surgeons... nurse practitioner..it's all good... ......even after the holidays...and yes I even indulged a little...A LITTLE !!!...the secret. I enjoyed "SOME" pasta (1/2 A CUP)...chocolate, cookies and even a small piece of cake or two..you only live once..it's called self control....right !?

I am eating healthier than when I was in my twenties..and am enjoying it...NO ****.!!!!

I have whole new wardrobe..from a 50 inch waist now at a 36 inch waist and I'm wearing "skinny jeans"....from 4 XXL shirts to XL-L size shirts..

    it's all good..

I'm sorry that has been your experience. The hormones can be killer. Please talk to your Dr. There are a lot of us out here that are willing to listen as well, but I think if you've been experiencing it for that long, you may want to look into some professional guidance as well.

  6. 4 weeks away!!!! I am suddenly nervous... Mostly about the pre op diet. The idea of 4 shakes and sugar free liquid for days and days is scary. the first part of mine is basically what I am doing now but week 2...

Try not to think about it too much. It comes and it goes. Almost 14 months out and I want to laugh at myself for how much I was in my head about it. You can do anything you put your mind to...especially when there is an end in sight.

I think we are...that definitely sounds more impressive!!!

  9. Day 5 of liquid liver-shrinking pre-op diet, and so far so good! I have been taking more enjoyment out of watching my cooking/baking shows on TV though  Can't believe my surgery is soo close@ This process has been incredibly fast for me (went to free WLS seminar by surgeon July 29th), and can't believe my life will change for the even better so soon!

  10. It's my 11 month surgiversary!  I'm down 105lbs and I have 45lbs left to go.  My surgeon and I agreed on 150 as my stopping point today.  I was so excited to be one of his sleeve patients who have lost over 100lbs. I guess we are few and far between in his office.  Never looking back!

  11. I had the worst experience this weekend... Friday my brother and mother talked me into riding a ride at the fair that i did not want to ride... i got up in the chair and they could not latch the harness... bc I am too fat. I knew it b4 i got up there but it is so much worse when u have proof... I cannot wait for the day when stuff like that no longer happens... silver lining is that i have new motivation to stick to it.,

We have a Six Flags fairly close to us and my family has always had season passes, so my kids could go. I would just walk around because I haven't been able to fit on a Roller Coaster since 1999. It has always been my goal through every incarnation of weight loss attempts. My vsg was 10/26. I tried to ride the Batman two weeks before Christmas...no go. I was so defeated. The good news is that I have been on that mo fo at least 10 times this summer. Your time is coming.

  12. I went shopping again this weekend, building the Fall wardrobe. I was feeling kind of crappy because I had to get size 31 skinny jeans from J.Crew because of my hips and thighs. Then I thought about it. I used to have a 66 inch waist, my hips were 70 inches. That fact that I had to get size 31 jeans instead of 30 shouldn't be a real issue at this point. This is the point where weight loss just gets nitpicky. On the bright size. I wear a size 8 at Brooks Brothers! Also I got some size 10 over the knee boots from a brand that runs small and they fit perfect.

      I get the same way...lol

  13. Headahe!!!!  I am doing a liquid diet trying to lose the last 3 pounds my insurance company requires before they will approve my surgery. However, this is causing me to have a constant and awful headache and fatigue. Not to mention how crabhy I am!  Does anyone have any advice on what I am doing wrong or what i can do to help out?

    1. MowryRocks

      MowryRocks

I don't think you're doing anything wrong. I had headaches, fatigue, and a whirlwind of emotion when I was on liquids. I was on liquids pre-surgery for 9 days, after about 4, I started to feel normal again. Hang in there.

  14. So I haven't been here for a while because of the in fighting and the first thing I read is the ' I regret this surgery' post'

I'm glad you're here. I hate the in-fighting. I dislike the "regretful" posts, but I try to remember that not everyone's health or experience is the same as mine. I hope and pray that their situations change and that it turns around for them. Anyway, glad you're back and hope that you stick around with input, positivity, and success.

  15. Had an NSV yesterday. I ran the best mile of my life. I was always very slow, still am, but much faster than I once was. I'm pretty proud of my 17 minute mile. Now to push to get down to 10 minutes.

    1. MowryRocks

      MowryRocks

Be proud. My first mile time was 22 minutes...lol. After months of really trying I can do a 15 minute mile now and that will probably be as fast as I ever get because I have little legs...lol. Great JOB!

  16. Hi, i just wondered if anyone else on bariatricpal is from Great Britain?  Thinks are slightly different for us brits, for one - I haven't found a British support group and some of the procedures are slightly different.  In Britain we tend not to tell anyone if we have had any surgery (stiff upper lip) Plus you guys eat foods I've never heard of! 😂

Im not complaining, your support has been great, but sometimes I feel very alone.

    1. MowryRocks

      MowryRocks

I hear you. I am not from GB, but my Grandmother is and she is somewhat taken aback that everyone knows I've had surgery. Be you, break the mold, be the the light in the dark for someone else hiding in the "stiff upper lip" closet...lol. Kidding, really,,,how people communicate their surgery decision is completely personal. I wish I knew more about British foods so that I could maybe help. Just out of curiousity...what kind of foods are we eating that you've never heard of?

  17. Surgery was yesterday and I was scheduled a gastric bypass , but because of the scar tissue from my C-section 24 years ago . After my Dr.removed as much scar tissue as possible he was unable to perform the bypass. The sleeve was done and I feel 😊 hopefully I hold the water down so I can get to go home😜😂

    1. MowryRocks

      MowryRocks

I've been really successful with the sleeve and I am sure that you will be too. Here's to getting that water down, going home, and being amazing!

@Strivingforbetter I understand why you feel like you can't be forthright with what you are eating on here, but at the same time, I hate it for you. That really takes the support out of "support group".

  19. Had a few sips of my friend's sweet iced tea last night and felt SO sick for all of last night and most of this morning. Symptoms were consistent with dumping syndrome, but I was under the impression sleevers didn't get dumping syndrome because our pyloric valves are intact?

  21. Why do I feel someone needs to moderate these forums. Most times I come across a question asked 5 years ago. Hello? Is there anyone new getting surgery? This sucks...and I'm probably just venting because no one is reading this anyway because everyone abandoned this sight and I'm Hangry! Yes...Hungry and Angry... I have 10 more days of this starvation...can I eat peanut butter?

  22. Hello, everyone, I am AJ Dawn and I am new here. I was doing research online for bariatric support groups and came across this community. Boy! Am I glad I did. You guys have addressed just about every worry and concern I have. I started my journey May 15th of this year and I have already been approved for my surgery. If I had know I didn't have to do the 6 month supervised diet with my doctor, I would have been approved sooner. I was already 3 months in before I found out.
I have a concern I need your help with. My insurance company, bs/bs of Alabama approved me 7/27/2017. I actually got the approval letter and my surgeons office did not, so they told me to just wait until they get theirs and they will call me to come in to get my pre op instructions and surgery date. Ok, a week and a half goes by and I still didn't hear anything from my surgeon's office. So I call them back and I got the same story, they have not gotten anything from my insurance company, so I call my insurance company back. They looked into it and told me to just tell my doctor I have been approved and they can just call them if needed, but I wasn't going back through that so I did get them to fax a copy of my approval letter to my surgeons office. Ok, another week or so goes by and still I hear nothing from my surgeon. So I gave them a call Tuesday and asked to speak with the nurse and the receptionist asked may I say whose calling, so when I gave her my name she said hold please, then she comes back to the phone and say the nurse was in with a patient, but she has faxed my information to my insurance company and is waiting on their response. I'm like what are you talking about? I have been approved they have sent you the approval letter and I have been waiting on you guys to call me for my pre op appointment Now I'm getting upset. I told the receptionist I spoke with you almost two weeks ago and you said you got the faxed approval letter and you were going to give it to the nurse, but apparently she didn't.
Ok, now I'm seeing red flags. I'm thinking should I use this guy, because his office isn't organized. So I call my insurance company and ask if I could switch surgeons because I'm not liking what I'm seeing. They told me I could switch, but would have to be approved all over again. Of course I don't want to go through that, so I do more research on my surgeon and find out he is a very well respected doctor and he is the chief of surgeon. He hasn't done very many  gastric sleeve surgeries, but he apparently knows his stuff. He's done about 30 and has gotten great reviews. I'm thinking maybe he doesn't know how his front desk is running things and maybe I shouldn't judge him, but address my concern to him.  My pre op appointment is Monday. Please tell me what you guys would do.
Sorry for the long message, but I really wanted you guys to get a feel of what I'm dealing with. Thank you all.

    1. MowryRocks

      MowryRocks

I mean every surgeon only did 30 surgeries at some point, but...

Call and speak with the office manager. The office staff won't be in the OR with you so it doesn't really matter if you ruffle a few feathers.

  23. I think my last update was early July and I was stuck on a long plateau.  Well since then things have been interesting.  I spent a week in the hospital with an acute Pancreatitis attack, followed by something going horribly wrong with my chemistry causing my ankle to balloon (it was not gout).  I have been on steroids for the last week and in a huge walking boot.  Makes work very very difficult.  That being said - the plateau broke - and I am down to 259 - nine pounds from goal 1....  What a rollercoaster ride it has been.

    1. MowryRocks

      MowryRocks

That's a lot to have going on all at once, but what a great outlook! Hope you're feeling better.

  24. Haven't been here for a while.. So let me catch you all up.  As you all know I lost my band in March.  Still hanging around 150... but I do need to get to the gym.  Still in the 4-6 size jeans...

I quit my job in Houma and moved to Madison, Ms.  Wasn't expecting to get a job so quick.  Went on Three interviews on a Friday and got Three job offers.  So I took the best one for me.

  25. I have decided not to go through with the surgery. If they can fix the pain I have in my head then I believe I can do this. :)

    1. MowryRocks

      MowryRocks

@Berry78 That's what I did. It is helpful either way because my insurance would accept any attempts at medically supervised weight loss over a 2 year span, so even if I decided against it and changed my mind later, I wouldn't have to start the process over again.

I ultimately went through it because after losing 30 lbs on my own in the first 4 months. I eased up a bit in my 5th month and even though I stuck mostly to plan, but had a few "last hurrah" days in there, I gained 20lbs back in month 5. I realized then and there I could not do it on my own.

      Sage advice, my friend.
