  1. BRING A EYE/SLEEP MASK TO THE HOSPITAL. When you're in pain you can have more relief when you lower the stimulation from all around you. I brought mine and wore it all the time, got great sleep while getting my rest and IV hydration. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Depression and Anxiety Meds

Hi Carrie. You're not alone in this! I take lexapro and Cymbalta. The lexapro is not a concern due to immediate release but my NP changed my Cymbalta from 30mg daily to 20mg BID. I've been instructed not to take more than 3 pills at a time. So far I have not had an issue while on the liquid diet. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Premier Protein question

I am anxious to hear which one you ordered and how that is going. I may want to try the same thing. I am so sick of artificial sweeteners and the same shakes so started making my own with a Garden of Life brand, but Im missing the flavor. Thinking of going to a local gourmet store to find some flavors to try too.

Thanks for sharing the soups! I got Imagine brand Butternut squash soup and am enjoying it very much. The biggest challenge right now seems to be getting enough Protein and calories. I'm so sick of Protein shakes and protein poops. I guess I'd better get used to it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I got all excited about that tomato soup but it has 13g sugar including added cane sugar. I got Imagine brand because it had a lower fat and carb content and also got the butternut squash soup. How adventurous! Lol Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I can't wait to eat. Changed things up by adding Campbells tomato juice today. That was different. It was tasty I guess. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Pain on left side

I actually had a bm the day after surgery -- liquid only but it was bc my gas pain was bad and they gave me a dulcolax suppository in the hospital to get the gas moving along. It worked on the gas and let some liquid stool out too the night after surgery. I am ordered to use Miralax daily and was recommended to use colace, so I've been compliant with that. Also got some benefiber to add to my hydration fluids. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Diet Coke

That sounds like a bad idea. You should follow your dr's orders and friends should not encourage friends to go against dr orders. There may be a reason for it that you don't know may hurt you. I agree with genn. Good luck to you. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

SassyMedic -- seeing food is messing with me too. What you said makes perfect sense. I was able to have the Protein shake very soon after surgery and it's been a part of the routine ever since. I highly recommend these little 2oz mason jars from Dollar Tree. It's $1 for 2 of them and I have about 30 of them -- I fill them up with all the Protein Shake I want and hydrating fluids and when my 15 min timer goes off I know exactly how much to drink. Gonna let my nutritionist in on this gem. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I don't think the taste is bad at all, SassyMedic. I put it in Kool Aid and in broth, and I even made a great decaf chai tea the other day with it and added a small amount of vanilla Premier Protein shake to finish it off. I made the hot tea the night before with Celestial brand Decaf Mountain Chai 3 bags and let it sit out at room temp all night. Then I woke in the morn and out the tablespoon of GENEPRO in. It looked clumpy but I kept mixing with a fork and then went to take a shower. When I was done with the shower it was completely dissolved and no clumps, added the vanilla shake and put it in a coffee mug to take to my therapist appt. over 30g protein in that puppy and it was delicious! Pain on left side

My middle is what still hurts and I'm on postop day 6. I was told that the right side pain is likely due to the liver retractor used (so much for liver shrinking diet?). The pain is much less when I move as much as before. Now it's more soreness than pain. Focusing on bowel movements now lol. I had one yesterday and several today -- it's a poop party! SassyMedic GENEPRO isn't completely tasteless and there may be some clumping. I slowly mix it in and if there are clumps let them sit for a few minutes and then keep mixing until there aren't anymore visible clumps. Hope you're feeling great soon! I'm POD 4 and still sore, but I don't think I've taken it easy enough. I relaxed a lot today. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I learned at my preop class that Eas Myoplex not only has more calories but has 42g Protein per serving. I'm switching up the Premier Protein (I love the vanilla even postop) with the chocolate fudge Eas Myoplex. I also got Genepure unflavored protein, mix it with room temp Water, then microwave it and add beef bouillon while its hot. I'm postop day 3 and got 92g protein in, 540 calories, and 88oz Fluid for the day! Preop I only had I day of Clear Liquids and 6 days of a very limited diet (including food for liver shrinkage). They still used a liver retractor which caused more postop pain, but it's not so bad here on the other side! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  15. I come here and read about other people going through similar challenges. Right now I'm doing some extra cleaning and dusting around the house. I got some nice colored pencils and have been coloring a really detailed picture in a coloring book. Distraction seems to help me. Every time I want to eat I drink my sugar free grape crush drink. I'm gonna miss being able to drink a lot at one time. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  16. It's truly different for everyone. A friend who referred me to my surgeon said she had her surgery within 3 months of her first consultation. I'm finally having my surgery next Thursday, 7 months after my initial consultation. I was required to have therapy and follow a diet for months before they'd approve me. It was tough. PreOp Diet Hunger Help

I am with you. I am also on a low carb liver shrinking diet but only for 6 days, then clear liquids on day before surgery. I know that I should not complain. I am having a tough time though with the tiny meals. The hardest part has been the headaches from lack of caffeine but I think I'm over the hump on that one. Best of luck to you! 18. My preop diet includes food. While it seems like it would be easier I'm finding it really hard. I'd rather be on liquid only at this point. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I agree with Marissa. Stick with the doctor's orders. You could end up with a leak if you put food in there at this point. Resist the urge! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
