    Feelin' sorry for myself

You can pay for an aide to stay with you for a day or two, but as someone who is a case manager for an insurance company it is very unlikely they'll pay for it. It is worth the try to call the insurance company and maybe ask for an exception or some assistance with paying for an aide. It could save them money in the long run so I guess you never know! Most insurance companies have case managers you can be connected with via the main customer service phone line. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Question?

I saw a lot of posts here and on a Facebook from people who had the sleeve getting a revision to RNY. Also the chances of GERD going away were said to be better per my surgeon. Also I have disordered eating and need the more restrictive diet post RNY. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    December bypass buddies

Hang in there! I felt the same way and thought I was going to lose my mind. Turns out chicken makes me nauseous every time I eat it but turkey is my friend. It was so worth the wait. This is a tough time but you've got this. You'll be eating food in no time. I ate too much leftover turkey thigh (no white meat allowed yet) today and spent about 20 minutes spitting saliva in the toilet ready to barf. But I didn't throw it up. It was SUCH an awful feeling. I gotta stick to eating out of my little 2 oz container and not let this happen again. It is nice to eat food again but it is such a struggle to implement such a different way of eating when work is stressing me out. This is why I see a therapist every week. Feel better Alexis! Ask your dr if it's ok to use a dulcolax suppository. They gave me one in the hospital and it made such a difference. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Premier Protein question

Even if you have Cigna, policies vary greatly regardless of which company is administering it. I work for a large insurance company and employer groups have many options and variations of policy benefits to choose from. Affordable care act policies can also vary greatly within the same insurance company. I'd love to have my Protein shakes covered! At the least it would be nice to be able to use my healthcare savings account to pay for them tax free. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    December bypass buddies

Merry Christmas December bypass buddies! This was as far as I could push it this holiday and it was enjoyable! Mom got me a ricer, so I used that to rice the broccoli and a plain sweet potato. Mashed potatoes were allowed anyhow without chunks. Not a lot of protein at all, but I did have a little turkey thigh. I'm not tolerating chicken very well so I took it easy on the turkey.

They are not puréed. I was shocked to learn that our next phase would allow so much! We had to sit in a 2 hour therapy group before we moved on to nutrition. Then the nutrition class was very detailed and adamant about prolonging each meal for 30 minutes, no eating or drinking anything else within 30 minutes of each meal, and stopping the meal when full and only returning for the next scheduled meal (not waiting until pouch empties and continuing which I really want to do most of the time). This diet started on day 12 for me and in 2 weeks will include toasted wheat bread, ground lean meats, veggie burgers and veggie sausage, and Beans. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I lied, it's a challenge to chew chicken and turkey until it is applesauce consistency in my mouth before swallowing. It's worth the wait! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I had my surgery on the 8th. I thought I was going to lose my mind if I had to drink another shake. Went on 12/20 for my follow up and a nutrition class to advance and am thrilled to report that I still haven't barfed and I'm eating poached eggs, cottage cheese with soft canned fruit (in Water, not syrup), deli turkey, and chicken thighs. The only challenge right now is eating slow and stopping when full and waiting until the next meal to eat more. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Now I've read that tomato juice and Soup may be too acidic. I'm going to ask my nutritionist and surgeon about it. I'm just mourning enjoyment from food. I'm blown away by the realization that food means so much to me psychologically. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Depression and Anxiety Meds

So sorry to hear that. Your team has done you a disservice. I wonder why swallowing pills is hard for some? I was told no more than 3. My duloxetine is one of them and is a capsule and I have no issues. I don't see how the ability to swallow pills is affected other than fewer at a time so as not to have too many in your pouch. Did you also have a hiatal hernia repair or another procedure that would affect ability to swallow? Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Depression and Anxiety Meds

I don't expect to ever not need the psych meds. In fact my nurse practitioner told me that morbidity and mortality rates among people who have lost their weight are higher due to no longer having the coping mechanism of eating the foods that brought them temporary relief. I do hope to eventually not need any med for reflux. I've already gone from Prilosec 40mg twice daily to only once daily Protonix after surgery. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Hi babygirl#1 most of us are behind you it seems. My surgery was 12/8 and my puréed diet starts Tuesday. I use 2oz jars that I got from Dollar Tree to put my liquid in and don't do more than that in a 15 min period. Also my nutritionist emphasizes very slow consumption when food is introduced and stop when there is any feeling of fullness and no liquids until 30 min after food was eaten. Your nutritionist should be able to offer more insight too, I'd hope. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I feel the same way dvallas. Im so sick of Protein shakes and almost sick of the soups now. I'm going through some serious grieving of food right now. Baked goods and pizza seem to be everywhere. I'm realizing how much food has meant to me in my life and I'm feeling lost without it! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Depression and Anxiety Meds

I haven't heard that about being over emotional, but due to my depression I was forced to get into therapy months before they would approve me for surgery. They did not mess around and took my depression very seriously and insisted that I sign paperwork promising to continue therapy and nurse practitioner visits for med management. I was emotional and anxious when I was in pain while in the hospital but have not noticed any other increase in anxiety or emotions. It is best to be prepared just in case with a great support system. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Caloric intake goals?

My nutritionist emphasized counting calories because if you don't get enough you can end up feeling pretty crappy, especially in the long term. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  25. Gas pain inside the intestines -- postop in the hospital I actually did not have the gas pain in other parts of my body like people describe. My abdominal pain was unpleasant -- the surgeon then ordered me a dulcolax suppository-- I was farting within an hour and even passed stool on the night after surgery. What a relief it was. Always make sure you can poop and fart. I use Gas X strips, Colace (stool softener), and the surgeon prescribes Miralax daily for everyone for 2 weeks postop. I am also adding benefiber to my hydration fluids every day. I'm almost sick of pooping, but constipation, impactions, and bowel obstructions are horrible and I'll do what needs to be done to avoid them! Ps -- I'm a registered nurse so maybe I'm a bit neurotic about this. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
