I've had a few surgeries....this was the easiest one I've ever recovered from. I really could have driven home the next morning if it were legal. I was working from my laptop in bed right away and was stir crazy and wanted to go shopping or do something just a couple days after being home. My belly was a little sore, but honestly felt better to move around than lay around. Easy Peasy....keep your eye on the prize!

I'm worried as well. My husband is even heavier than me...although very supportive so far.
I fear though. It's a little bit like alcoholism. When both people drink and one stops or cuts back....how can that not create tension. Even with best intentions, the one who still drinks has loss of their partner in crime....and the one who gets clean watches the other one continue to make poor choices....whether there is judgement on either side or not, there would be perception of judgement.
You have to do what it takes to get yourself heathy and on track and worry about yourself first.

If you are moving towards surgery, you can always start prepping now. Get in your fluids.....cut down on sugars and carbs....don't make yourself heavier while stressing about surgery.
Remember that surgery is not a magic pill...you still have to work hard.
It's easy to feel defeated. Keep your eye on the prize and your chin up. Good luck with your journey.

Well we made it. One year ago we had this life altering surgery.
I'm down 110 pounds with no problems at all. I feel great and look so much better. hair is coming back in and loose skin doesn't show in clothes much. I'll deal with that after the last 59 pounds are gone. Or not. At almost 66 it's not the highest of my priorities. I can walk without crying. I can dance again. I can play with my grandchildren. Shopping. Yay!!

My insurance required me to do a six-month diet program before they would approve the surgery. So, I decided that I was going to make the most of that time and try to lose as much weight as I could before the surgery date. And I did! Not only did I lose 99 pounds pre-op (from March 21 until September 28), but I also re-established my relationship with food, started an exercise program, and set myself up for a successful surgery, a nearly seamless recovery, and continued weight loss success post-op. (I've lost an additional 36 pounds since my surgery on September 28.)
My advice -- get started now. You'll start to feel better, and you'll set yourself up for more success later.
    Good luck!

Someone asks this question almost every day. Try the "search" feature.
You were told you couldn't smoke after WLS before you had it, and if you had asked the surgeon you would have been told that this includes smoking pot.
You can however use eatibles and tinctures available in dispensaries if you have a medical marijuana card or to everyone if live in a civilized and Enlightened state

I drink my coffee black. But use it in my coffee each morning. It sort of turns the color as if I've added a tad of milk. It I add extremely hot coffee I'll get some sediment floating so I try and let the coffee sit.

I'm not trying to defend anyone in this thread but I do want to talk about my own experience with medicaid patients. I work in the health care field. I will say that based on my experience, that many, not all medicaid patients have a very entitled attitude. They are generally the ones that complain and get pissed off when they don't get their way. It can easily sour someone's perception of all medicaid patients when you work with this issue day after day. Mentally it can be quite taxing. I have to admit that when I deal with one of the entitled patients I think to myself "well, I guess my taxes are paying for this one". Somehow that makes it easier in my screwed up brain.

Howdy - I've been reading so many mixed reviews about if GENEPRO really has 30 grams of Protein or not.....but since I have it, I am going to use what I have.
People say the mix it in food and coffee. I just put a scoop in a cup of Tomato Soup, and it was clumpy and nasty and I had to toss it out.
Is there a trick? Do you have to dissolve it somehow before adding to hot liquid?

SOON_TO_BE_THIN reacted to Nerdgrl in Honest truth about genepro protein powder
After reading this thread, I got a little curious and started to do some research. For context, note that I have a PhD in Bioengineering (from a top 10, US institution - will become relevant) and have spent the 15 years of my career as either a drug discovery scientist in 2 large pharma companies or in contract labs that perform independent safety and efficacy testing for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. While I'm not an expert in Protein biochemistry, I do know a bit about bioavailability and biodistribution (and similar topics) - and, as a scientist, am skeptical by nature. So I started to dig and do some research on GENEPRO. Long story short, I found minimal to no scientific evidence of the claims they make - increase in bypass of the intestinal digestive system by 94%, increase in absorbency to 97.8%, etc. The graphs they included were found in the marketing literature from Deerland enzymes - the company that makes Prohydrolase. The clinical data in their "Clinical Studies" section was not related to their specific product (and was incomplete at that). The award for "2015 Life Science Impact Product of the Year" was awarded by the Triangle Business Journal - a local business publication in Research Triangle Park - not a scientific trade publication, society or association. The CEO, "Dr." Parks, received a PhD from Canterbury University (Auckland, NZ). I am not familiar with this degree program or its accreditations, but at best once could consider its scientific rigor suspect. If nothing else, one has to wonder why an entrepreneur in the RTP area of NC - in spitting distance of 3 world-class research universities - needs to go to NZ for education.
All this being said, to be fair we need to recognize that nutritional supplements are not FDA regulated and that none of the companies that manufacture these products are required to substantiate their claims. The take home message is not that their product is junk (there is no data to conclude that it isn't effective) - it's that one needs to be cautious about accepting their assertions wholesale. At a minimum, it's fair to say that they are over-inflating their "data" and lack independent scientific verification.
If you read the fine print on their website, I believe that they are stating that their 30g of Protein is an equivalent value - in simple terms, if their protein version is 3x more "bioavailable" than standard whey protein, ~10g of GENEPRO is equivalent to ~30g of standard whey protein - for whatever that's worth. Personally, I am still planning to use GenePro (my surgery is next week) as it does appear to be easy and tasteless, but to be safe will probably count this as 10-15g of protein and not 30g. Just wanted to share what I learned so everyone could make a slightly more educated decision for themselves!

GENEPRO is shit. It's marketing hype. Basically BCAA. The only people I know who use it are women on this forum who don't like the flavor of whey.
You can't get 30 grams of Protein from 15 grams of powder. They'll say it is some chemical magic that allows it to absorb as though it is 30 grams or some such BS though. Then they'll say their blood work came perfect and yadda yadda yadda... Go talk to as many lifters as possible and see if any of them use that crap.

BTW --- Not all Newbies are millennials looking for their next praise point or trophy. Some of us are just legitimately "new" and looking for advice and tips from people who have already done this. I'm sure I've asked dumb questions too.
Today alone I've seen this post, some weird religious chick crying about Sarah Palin and saying why you can't have morals without Jesus, some woman who doesn't understand why a guy she has known for 2 weeks still hasn't devoted his life to her....the list goes on.
I've also read posts from Vets bitching about newbies in the same way conceited HS Seniors pick on stupid lowly Freshman pukes.
