I actually saw the number 10 flash up on my scales this morning so happy. Current weight 10st 13lb ( 153lb )my goal is only 6lb away but may try for a bit more once I hit target. But these last few lb have been very slow! Really wanted to add a picture but for some reason it won't let me.

    Surgery 28th October 2016 240lb
Current weight 153lb lost so far 87lb in just over 9 months x

It's great to hear all of your updates!!
I was sleeved Oct 3, 2016. High weight 239, surgery day 219, Goal= 139. Current= 136! Feeling really good. Still hard to believe how good I feel in the mornings, and how much more I can do day to day. My next goal is to firm up. Trying to go to the gym and weight train, especially my arms and abs. Here's a cool thing- I can actually SEE the lines in my abs where there is definition. I haven't seen this since I was 12 or 13. I love it!
Tomorrow I am driving my daughter up for her 3rd year in college, and then I am traveling west to see my parents and visit some home state friends. I am actually really excited, and confidant. I had been hiding myself way in shame for soooo many years, embarrassed about the way I looked. So I guess the best thing about my 103 lb weight loss is my new health and the way I feel, and how that translates in a new confidant lifestyle.

Is anyone else having a hard time reaching 100lbs lost? I'm 5lbs away & cant seem to shake those 5 lbs plus I've got about 40 more to go! I've seen several people say they are well past 100lbs lost! Please don't let me be the only one not meting this goal!

So glad this thread is still going. Im down 94lbs from surgery. Trying to get to 100lbs lost by my 1 year post up. About 20lbs away from goal which i hope to reach by my 1 year post op appointment if im being honest with myself lol. But anything under 150 is gravy i think.

Reading Primal Blueprint and love the book. I think it is good as far as nutritional advice long term. Anyone else read this book? It's not exactly the same as Paleo, but certainly has a lot of similarities and is consistent with a lower carb lifestyle.

    Ha! Yes. The order is:
    1. Wake up (first weigh of the day).
    2. Pee.
    3. Strip.
    4. Pray, shake Ouija board, consult voodoo doll, and sacrifice a live chicken.
    5. Weigh.
    6. Rinse/repeat wherever and whenever there is a scale present in close proximity to a potty...ad nauseum. I actually count and track this as a form of exercise (aerobic) on MFP.

Three months and a half post op, I would say:
    - Constipation.< /p>
    - The "hypotension" problems I had the first two weeks.
    - God damn CPAP machine that I can't wait to get rid of (unrelated to the surgery but I really hate this machine).
    - The acid reflux that I have sometimes.
For the rest, it's been good, so far I've lost 64pounds (29kgs), so kinda happy!

::Deep breath:: Hello? ::tap tap:: Anyone here?
How are you? I am fine-ish. I mean, I feel fine and I look fine but something is still holding my happiness back.
Actually, if I am being honest, I am not fine. I am scared, anxious, worried, afraid, concerned, freaked out but dedicated to doing this surgery.
I am scared because both of my parents have had gastric bypass surgery and have had life long effects that are most likely attributed to the surgery (vomiting, dehydration, shitting themselves to death, Constipation, Vitamin deficiency, neuropathy). I am anxious because I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and, though treated and kept in check, my anxiety knob still gets turned to 11 when I am faced with a huge changes. I am afraid of permanently ruining my body and life through this surgery in an attempt to lose 60 pounds (the same 60 pounds I have lost and gained many, many times). I am concerned about not being able to live with the changes because I am "addicted" to fast food (not really, but I do enjoy eating all things fried and fatty, possibly more than the next person). I am freaked out because this will be the biggest change (besides having my amazingly perfect son) in my life.
But, I am dedicated to this surgery because of so many reasons. Some of these reasons may seem petty and unimportant but - to me - they all encompass my WHY!! Oh, so cliche, but important to remember. Perhaps I should be playing some kind of slow, emotional music as I write this to make it even more dramatically sad and moving. Please think of your favorite emotion driven sound track during the below paragraph. Ready? Ok...I can wait while you think of one...
Ok, here goes my WHY list: live for as long as I can with my son and husband, get fully healthy, look fantastic in photos from nearly every angle, stop back/side cramps whenever I stretch, remove bra extender for good, wear my wedding ring again, wear my wedding dress (size 4), wipe my butt without straining, wear high heels again, no more double chin, look sexy and beautiful, have sex again, stop taking pills (metformin, thyroid med), wear a bathing suit, look younger or at least my age (33), 'fit in' with the MILFs, wear yoga pants and not feel stupid, wear clothes that are stylish, have my outside match my inside. <end emotional music here>
But who am I? Who is AHappierMe - that is the burning question, right? (ok, just pretend it is a burning question and not a UTI):
    Real Name: Amber
    Sex: Female
    Age: 33
Turn Ons: extra money, exotic vacations, Italian accents <--Ooops, sorry, that went to an awkward place.
Medical Issues: Reoccurring Pregnancy Loss (6 miscarriages), PCOS, Hypothyroidism, Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (most likely caused or influenced by the repeated pregnancy losses).
Weight Loss Attempts: Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Low Carb / No Cab, South Beach Diet, Cabbage Diet, Fasting, Low/No/Negative Calorie, juice fast, Slim Quick, Sim Fast, Protein Shakes, measuring food constantly, trying to trick myself into think I could be anorexic (no kidding - it worked for about 4 days then I realized that I couldn't give myself an eating disorder and binged like there was no tomorrow), intermittent fasting, fad diets and diet pills.
Highest Weight: 200 (after having son)
Lowest Adult Weight: 122 (aged 22, when I got married)
    Current Weight: 180
    Goal Weight: 120
Height: Too Damn short for my weight! ::Audience goes WILD:: Ok, it is 4'll.
Lastly, my husband is currently in the process of getting the bypass done too and should have surgery in late August. I am INSANELY excited for him. He is 6'0, 350 pounds and is very much ready for this change. My consultation appointment is August 18 but I have already passed the requirement of getting the surgery. I wish time would move faster but I must wait 3 months after my husband's surgery to have mine. In the meantime, I will be updating at least daily on this same topic. I will be updating about my husband's progress and my progress through this journey.
Here is a quote to wrap up this post: "Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end" - Robin Sharma (don't worry, I didn't know him either. Apparently he is a Canadian motivational speaker)

Thank you for your reply. While I read the same thing you just posted for non bariatric people, this is not the advice I was given by my surgeon/program. I was told to do at least 65 grams of Protein daily. But your response ties into a lower amount which was my thought as well. I think the 40 is a better indicator for me at this point since I am not super active at the moment.

I was able to fit into a size 8 jean from Gap (not legging material)!!! Weight loss is a little slow now. Still vomit once or twice a week, but overall much better.

M@E reacted to Clementine Sky in Old clothes? What did you do?
I started out with a lower BMI for having the VSG, and lost weight at a slower pace than many others, so I kept my older clothes for the first year. I just added a belt to the jeans. When that was no longer feasible, I decluttered my closet, washed all the clothes since some had been hanging in my closet gathering dust, and bagged them up to donate. My friend's sister is mentally delayed and living in a group home for adults with similar condition to hers. I donated the clothes to her, and then she had a fabulous time giving them away to other women in her home. She said she felt like Santa.

I was 451 pounds before I had my surgery in September. Got on the scale today and saw the number 299! I know this is not a big deal for some people, 299 is higher than a lot of your starting weights before surgery, but this is a MASSIVE ACHIEVEMENT for me. I haven't seen a number lower than 300 on the scale since I was sixteen years old. So, yeah, I still have a ways to go, but I am so happy with this decision. I look better, I feel incredible, and I will never go back to being the self destructive girl slowly killing herself with food that I was a year ago.

Thanks for the kind words, all!!
As as far as diet advice, during rapid weight loss I followed my surgeons plan to a T. I just kept losing and losing. I got to 10 lbs below goal (my goal weight was 163 lbs) and started adding back in some complex carbs to stop the weight loss. I've been in the 150-153 lbs range ever since.
FWIW, I still can't eat 4 oz in one sitting. I usually max out at around 6 bites of anything. I still eat high Protein, moderate fat, low carb - usually 50 or less carbs per day - and I count total carbs, not net carbs. During rapid weight loss I stuck to less than 15 per day.
I eat around 1,000 calories a day, sometimes a few extra if it's a long run or heavy workout day. I eat mostly protein and veggies, with an occasional serving of quinoa or a slice of sprouted whole grain toast with PB2 in the morning.
I cook every morning, pack lunches for myself and my husband, and also cook dinner every night. I've learned how to use herbs and spices to flavor my food and I really do enjoy cooking delicious and unique meals - we don't do boring, lol.
Oh, and I still only drink Water, one 6 oz cup of coffee every morning, and dry red or white wine.
All of this is my day to day norm, obviously - but if we have a date night, I'll eat a few bites of my husband's Pasta, or we'll share some cheesecake moderation is the spice of life!

    Hi guys!
I get on here every six months or so to update y'all I've never made a topic with progress pictures before, so I thought I would this time, as I've been maintaining below goal for almost a year now.
    SW: 323
    CW: 153
    Size 24/26 to a 4/6
    No skin removal
I ran my first half marathon in February and am running another in November, which is pretty cool! When not in race training mode, I run 3-6 miles, three days per week, and do HIIT style training (heavy weights and cardio) at the gym 2-3 other days per week. I tend to fluctuate between 150-153 lbs, depending on the time of month and just general day to day food/water intake.

I imagine this is a very complex thing for most people. I totally understand why you would want to keep it a secret but on the other hand you will be dying to tell everyone because its such amazing feeling. I didn't tell anyone besides my immediate family and my wife's family but as time goes on and you're losing weight people will start to take notice. Everyone will want to know what your doing, what diet you're following. So tell them about your life style change. Tell them everything that you have been doing minus the surgery.. its none of their business! Tell them about the food you consume.. all your hard work in the gym. Try to inspire someone to reconsider their choices and also grab a little positive attention for doing such an amazing job even if you got a little help from surgery.
    Be proud of yourself!

    Hey!
So I've left dieting behind. I no longer weigh myself. I don't count my calories or macros or Protein grams. I have no idea what I eat in a day, it's always different and I actually forget.
I exercise for fun and enjoyment but not for weight regulation. If I don't feel like working out, I don't.
Bariatric surgery helped me lose 100 lbs but it also caused a great deal of pain in my life. I struggle to this day with food getting stuck, vomiting, and dumping.
I have rejected dieting because after my weight loss I realized I was just as miserable and unhappy as prior to my weight loss. Living a life centered around food, dieting, weight and body imagine was taking all the joy out of my world. I didn't feel at ease- I felt the same amount of stress and anxiety around food as before weight loss- maybe more So now that I was thin and felt I had more to lose if I regained. Basically I was still stuck in an eating disorder and diet mindset and it was ruining my life.
I now eat by INTUITIVE EATING. It is a book I read and a way of eating that was presented to me when I went through eating disorder therapy. I eat by my hunger.. if I'm hungry I eat and if I'm not, I don't. Well.. sometimes I still do. Basically these days I just don't think about it that much. I just eat.
I can eat normal to large portion sizes now. I eat a wide variety of foods including sweets and fried food. I don't love processed Snacks but sometimes I still eat those too. I'd say I eat a fairly healthy diet nutrition wise- I eat my fair share of veggies and fruit but I definitely don't ponder about it- I just eat what appeals to me. I like salads as much as I like cake and protein.
I initially gained about 10lbs, but I was underweight at a BMI of 17. My weight has remained stable for about a year now, as far as I know.
If anyone wants to know more feel free to get in touch. I'm happy to talk about my experiences.
