DaleCruse got a reaction from cah987 in Alcohol Is The Enemy-HELP!
I was sleeved four years ago. Lost 108 pounds, regained 40. Why? The primary reason was I started drinking again. I'm one of those people you read about. I couldn't stop at one glass of wine. I had to finish the bottle. Then another. Every night.
I quit drinking one year & 90 days ago. I never did anything bad. Never drove drunk, never missed work, never physically hurt anyone. But I felt rotten. So I quit. It was hard but ever day gets a little easier.
What I'm really trying to say is: Know yourself. If you can control yourself, well, enjoy. But I know I'm not one of those people. I'm like the hokey-pokey: I'm either all in or all out.
Whatever you decide, good luck to you. You are not alone.

I'm going to approach this slightly different & give myself advice I wish I had: Don't start drinking alcohol again.

You should follow your surgical team's plans, but I drank coffee before & after surgery. I definitely preferred low-acid coffee, like "Big Trouble" blend from Counter Culture Coffee.
Now, 4+ years later, I've given up coffee. Caffeine kicks up my anxiety & I don't need the acid. Tea is working better for me.
Good luck! You are not alone!

Remember we are all at different stages. The only one that counts is your stomach. Think of the plan as a guide only. Listening to your stomach it's new and in training. We all learn the hard way. I'm still learning to eat slower too or I start getting the "foamies". To this day I can't eat anything that is over cooked, or yogurt but that's me. So don't be to hard on yourself.

DaleCruse got a reaction from shanshan in No wine/alcohol for one year?
Know yourself. If you only have 1 or 2 on special occasions, you'll probably be fine. Me, on the other hand, I don't do moderation. I'm either all in or all out. I was a wine person before surgery 4+ years ago & stayed that way after. I lost 108 pounds & then regained 40 of it because I was drinking 1 to 2 bottles of wine a night every night. The horror stories you've read about are true for some people like me. I'm proud to say it's been almost 2 years since I had a drink & the weight is slowly starting to come off again. If I could change 1 thing post-op, it would be never starting to drink again. But that's me. Good luck, whatever you choose!

DaleCruse reacted to rperchard in Post op 13 yrs & maintaining
April 2019 marks 13 yrs since Roux-N-Y laparoscopic procedure. Peak weight: 305 lbs. I maintain between 155-160.
I have, & will continue annual follow-ups. Not only medically necessary, but makes me accountable.
My bypass continues to work for me: I listen to what it's "telling me" when I have those moments. You know..the voice in your head that leads you to haunt the refrigerator or cabinets; buy foods that you know could trigger cravings or worse (binge). Surgery can't eliminate the disease of obesity....which lives in my head. Your's too, if you're reading this.
I take action when I begin to see numbers trending up on the scale. (I don't wait til it's 20/40/50 or more lbs). Besides, I'm uncomfortable...along w gain comes bloat, discomfort, snug waist band, increased cravings.
After a few yrs, trying different "maintenance" approaches, Jenny Craig works for me...I feel better when weight is a pound or 2 on either side of 155. For me, I persist w weekley wrigh ins....keeps me honest. I've been as low as 145, but it's a struggle. And I don't want that struggle. I just want to be comfortable in my skin.
I'm challenged with anemia (intolerant of oral iron) & insufficient Protein intake. So, I do what I can to improve those values. I knew what I was getting into when I signed up for this. And so far, my bypass &, I pretty much listen to each other.
