Now I can't tolerate any shakes. The paleo shake I can do, but I have to dilute the heck out of it. I found a great alternative to shakes! 4 triple zero Oikos yogurts equals to 60 grams of Protein. It coats the tummy and heals it with the Probiotics. 🙂

That's great! I'm glad you found something that works for you! It's crazy how everyone's body works so differently.

  2. For the entire nine months that I've been doing my program, I kept saying "IF I decide to do the surgery...". And then last week I went in for my pre admission appointment, and had the realization that this is really happening and I am going through with it.

i think it's really good for us to note our fears and concerns, and to write about WHY we are having the surgery. It will really help us in those first few weeks after surgery when we start having regrets.

  3. I have only been able to go to a few of the support group meetings offered through my bariatric program. I might not sure whether they were helpful. I didn't feel like I connected with anybody, but I am going to start going more regularly after my surgery. Hopefully I will connect with people then .

I love the online support that I get here. I do think both are useful!

  4. Are there any other programs near you? If you need to go back to the original surgeon, there's no need to be embarrassed. Trust me, you are not the only lapband patient for whom the lapband didn't work. I was in the same position, where I was too ashamed to go back to my surgeon after I failed. I sucked up my pride and went to her and asked to have the band removed. She didn't even flinch. She just said that it obviously hasn't helped me, and it was time for it to Come out.

For my sleeve surgery, I went to a different program, one that is closer to my house Around here, most surgeons seem to understand that the lapband didn't live up to its promises, and very few of them are even doing the surgery any more, since they want their patients to be successful .

hang in there. You'll figure it all out!

Thanks for the encouragement. I know that having a 13 year surgery gap may make some difference in the end, so I'll keep the positive and push the negative as everyone is different.

I am hoping that my body reset itself or something. I didn't lose more than 15 pounds with the lapband. I never had that wls shock that caused weight loss, so I am really hoping it will happen this time!

Yea Im actually hoping this works smh. I feel like if I still have PCOS will weightloss still be hard to achieve? I've seen success stories of ppl with PCOS but idk.

I think what is most frustrating is how other people look at us like we are lazy, and are choosing to not lose weght. Most people don't understand that everybody's body works differently.

A few few years ago, I went away for a girls weekend with a friend. We did everything together, and ate pretty much the same foods, and had the same level of activity. Yet when we returned home, I had gained five pounds and she had lost five pounds. My body just works differently.

I realize that this surgery won't make me thin, but I am hoping it will help me lose another 60 pounds or do, so I can be in the overweight category instead of morbidly obese.

This is really vain and my reasons for the sleeve are not really out of vanity but more medical but it will be nice not be embarrassed about being in family pictures. Last Christmas photos I looked like a blueberry, so round and blue/purple clothes. lol

Yes! And I notice that I always hide behind other people in pictures. I'd like to not have to feel like I need to do that.

Yes, all of my primary care drs would annoy me too with "eat a low calorie diet and exercise" which is clearly what Ive been doing lol. I researched PCOS and I literally had every symptom, so I brought that to their attention and I was told I didnt have that either by my pcp. So I saw an endocronologist who specializes in pcos, weightloss, hormone imbalances, thyroid issues, diabetes etc. He diagnosed me, but after years of trying to lose weight on my own and seeing that a symptom of pcos is weight gain and its harder for us to lose weight I knew that's what I had and after I was formally diagnosed is when i decided to have the surgery. I can lose 10lbs and gain 15 more it was a never ending cycle that needs to stop bc it is now affecting my health.

I also had PCOS symptoms, but the endocrinologist I went to wouldn't even test me for it. She ordered a bunch of tests, but she put "obesity" as the diagnosis code, which meant the insurance company wouldn't pay for them, so I didn't have them done.

My surgery is a revision, which statistically, aren't as successful as wls the first time around. I am optimistic that I will be able to beat the odds

Hi all! I'm having my VSG surgery the first week of September 2017 at UCLA. I had my Pre-Op appointment and actually gained 3 lbs and my doctor asked me to do a liquid diet to shrink liver and lower my risk of complications or a difficult surgery. I would love to meet other sleevers in Los Angeles and have some local support, especially if you are on a similar timeline. I'm really worried I won't be able to stick to the liquid diet...it's giving me juice-fast flashbacks (I've done every diet there is). Please feel free to comment here or PM me!

I'm on the other side of the country, but I do hope you can find some local support. Does your surgeon's office have a support group? Mine has one that meets monthly, but it usually conflicts with other things, and the few times I have gone, I just feel overwhelmed. (At least a hundred people attend, so it isn't very personal at all.)
