Damn! I haven't seen anybody lost that much weight and not have so much excess skin without a tummy tuck! Hope you don't mind me asking, how old are you? People have been telling me because I'm 25 and only want to lose 100 (need to lose 80) that my skin won't be so super obvious? We'll see haha, you look awesome though! Great job!

RJrocks reacted to FluffyChix in 11 months post-op - Stalled since 7 months
So I'm going to just address the naked king in his new clothes standing in the middle of the room.
IMHO, you are both maintaining. You are NOT stalled for 4 months. You are eating the amount of calories along with your surgery that allows you to maintain. But beware. You are both approaching the end of the honeymoon period within the next year or 14 months ish. Then those same calories you're taking in right now, will quite likely cause you to start creeping up on the scale.
It's impossible to help you. You're not giving us enough information. I could come to you and ask the same question. But because I track every bite of food, good and bad, I can present samples of my day, I can present an excel spreadsheet showing the relationship of macros in a month to average weight loss. I have a LOT of data to look at and tweak. You don't have any of that, even a food log.
How can you possibly know what it takes to lose weight? You've no earthly idea. This is not magic bean surgery. It's WL surgery. It's SCIENCE!!!!! You HAVE to count sh*t. The End. And any RD who says you don't has a butt-load of peeps keeping her in job security who never forking make goal!!!!
I read yesterday that this surgery is 40% surgery and 60% you. I don't know if that's the exact ratio, but the reality is, weekly cheat days are just that...weekly events that derail your progress. They can do nothing but create a GHDWL situation (Ground Hog Day Weight Loss=where you gain and lose the same 2lbs over and over and over again until you want to chew your own leg off to see a drop on the scale).
Go back to basics. For me, and from a lot of vets, the ideal losing phase is a caloric intake average of about 600-900 cals per day. Maintenance is personal--anywhere from 1000+ depending on so many variables.
Go back to no eating or drinking 30-30 Water >64oz per day Vitamins every damn day Exercise (walk) every damn day--don't go cray with working out right now Weigh and measure everything (60-80g Protein for the day; <30g of carbs daily; around 30g fat for the day; <10g naturally occurring sugars for the day) Log EVERY bite that goes down your piehole If you're drinking alcohol--stop that sh*t right now!!!! Eat 3 meals a day + 1 snack (no grazing, no crap foods, no slider foods) Eat your meals in a window of 15-30 minutes Protein (dense) first 3oz per meal Veggies next Healthy Fats next If any room leftover then low glycemic fruit/berries (but if you have more room, fill up on fibrous veggies) Accept that you are gonna feel like jack sh*t for about 2 weeks. You're eating carby crap and sugar. What do you really expect. Sadly it WILL be fuc*ing hard! You don't have the excitement of the looming surgery, you've got diet boredom, you've lost faith in your tool, and you're being self-indulgent and going back to bad habits. It's gonna hurt and you WILL have to force yourself to get over that hump. Get mad! Do it! Suffer. And do it. In 4 days it will get easier and each day after.
If you do those things, I can ALMOST guarantee you will both start losing again. And remember, you can NEVER out-exercise a bad diet.
Oh and get your butts to the counselor (someone who specializes in bariatrics).
P.S. And I "get" that you want to have a normal relationship with food. I "get" that you want to eat intuitively like all the other skinny girls in the world. But what you don't realize is that many (maybe most) of those skinny girls are secretely limiting calories, fats, sugars, foods or worse, purging, or anna stuff to "effortlessly" look like they are naturally skinny girls.
If we were capable of having normal relationships with food, we would have never made it to the obesity ball in the first place. If we didn't have seriously, and I mean SERIOUSLY broken metabolisms, we would never have become MO.
Once you are MO, the "normal" rules of skinnydom no longer apply. You can not take the set of rules for naturally skinny people and apply them to the subset of MO and formerly MO people. You just can't. It's like trying to feed a lion a peanut, or trying to feed an elephant a dead gazelle. It's apples and oranges. DUE to our disease, we will ALWAYS have to be more vigilant, try harder, do more, and live differently if we EVER want to maintain our weight loss.)

Totally none of my business but this journey has shown me in black and white that fat doesn’t make me fat. So while I completely avoid sugar and sweet tasting things (for the first 6 months I did not touch fruit even), I ate full fat meat and dairy and cooked with olive oil and coconut oil. I write down everything I eat in an app (I use Lose It). Every single day of 9 months of weight loss, I have eaten over 50% of my calories in fat. I had heard fat doesn’t make you fat, but I didn’t really internalize it as a fact until I saw it didn’t make ME fat!
Not trying to get you back on the cheese Jones at all, lol, but I thought you might find that interesting. Daily eating a ton of fat, while daily losing weight. I’m sold. Good fats don’t make us fat. But I do watch the carbs.

Was not taken off diuretics after surgery and I do use MyFitness App to track food calories. My Protein source is Pure Protein, Premier Protein, I have Isopure high max Protein Powder, unflavored protein powder, isopure zero drinks, and chicken, turkey, fish, low fat ham, eggs, etc. I drink Water pretty much all day. Rarely carbs. Maybe 1 slice of bread in a week...small quantity of rice once.
My plan is to see nutritionist at beginning of next month at support group meeting....

RJrocks reacted to swimbikerun in New study about the long-term effectiveness of the sleeve
Well I think the bigger point is the diabetes effectiveness issue. If someone doesn't have it, maybe just insulin resistance, and being overweight, that does seem to make a bigger difference than having diabetes. The amount of weight too lose also.
At least they're being honest. 50% is still better than nothing and if this is used for those who are prediabetic or just turned (believe it was 'how long someone had diabetes' was a factor) diabetic, maybe that is what needs to happen? At least if docs have that recommendation it is better for patient decisions.

Not personally but I know that's why you have to stick religiously to the pre-op diet. If the liver is fatty it will be inflamed and larger than usual. To do the bypass they need to be able to work around it to re-route everything so it's important that it's flat. That said I had adhesions which were expected but once in there he realised my liver spleen and stomach were fused together but he still managed to do it after spending the first 2 1/2 hours separating the organs so I wouldn't worry too much. They will work it out

I know its not a major deal but my scales this morning officially kicked me out of obesity. I am simply "overweight" according to the BMI chart. I am quite psyched about this as I have not seen this weight since I got married over 23 years ago. I am having to work harder for each pound lost but determined to loose my last 42 pounds. Weird thing, people around me are telling me not to loose more weight, whats up with that?

I've seen that article and love it!!! I think there's a certain amount of form follows function but I also think that having a particular body type leads to success in a particular sport as well once you get to these elite levels!

I picked up running for the health benefits. I wanted it to help me drop the weight and keep it off. But I will be the first to admit that I started yoga because of Madonna's arms and the physique of other yogis! I continued yoga because I love the mind/body aspect though.

And now I'm on crutches with a torn Achilles' tendon and realizing how much each of them has come to mean to be as I'm staring down the barrel of a three month recovery!

I am not telling my family either. My wife knows but no one else. Really not in the mood for well-intentioned yet ill informed advice from the family. Even if the flip side is correct and they full support me 100%, I dont want it to be a constant topic of conversation. Other people thrive on support from family and friends and that was works for them. But for me, this forum and my wife is all the support I want.

Shopping in my closet was one of the great NSVs of the first six months!

I was wearing a 24w when I had surgery and had some old items in my closet down to a 20. It was empowering to size down when what I was wearing no longer fit me.

Now the days of shopping in my closet are over and I have an interim wardrobe.

RJrocks reacted to Little Green in Is Fitness Pal Premium worth the fee?
I've been using MFP for 3+ years including one year of premium. At $49 per year, hell no it is not worth it. That is an EXORBITANT fee. Like, ridiculous. Yes, you get to set some custom numbers (by gram instead of percent) but the other features are not really something most people would either be interested in or get a lot out of - things you can do in your head like eat different # of calories on the weekend. If it were a ONE-TIME fee of $4.99 or $9.99 like when you purchase the upgraded versions of other apps, then fine. But $50/yr (or $12/month!) subscription for a few bonus features is absolutely ridiculous. Subscriptions are for companies who provide ONGOING SERVICES, not for unlocking the door to features. Clearly I am still very angry about this haha. I remember when they debuted it and I figured I'd been using it so long and why not support them, etc. Definitely a mistake and waste of money. It also makes me angry because there's no other way to get rid of ads. I always pay the $1 or $2 to get rid of ads in my other apps but my only option to do that with MFP is a $50 yearly subscription... unbelievable.
OK sorry! I woke up on the wrong side of the bed anyway and this question made me rant! LOL! I've been trying out Baritastic and I like it a lot. I'm not sure yet whether I'll make the permanent switch or not.

Yeah, I was a really slow loser. Averaged about six pounds a month. I gained 11 in the hospital. My biggest, and only, double-digit month was my first month.

    Don't fret! Your sleeve works!

It took me longer than some people, but I made plenty of friends on here that lost just as slowly as me. And I did lose, every pound I planned on, plus more. I'm under my initial goal weight, at 7 years out.

My advice for slow losers? Don't weigh daily. It's painful. Do it weekly. Measurements. I lost sizes even when the scale didn't budge. Keep going. It took me 17 long months to reach my initial goal weight, but I got there. I firmly disbelieve that one year nonsense as I am proof, twice over, of later sleeve loss.

Don't be disheartened. You didn't gain overnight. You have an amazing, lifelong tool to help you lose.

Let me know if you have questions.

    Good luck!!

Definitely got your reply. Congrats on making the very courageous decision to change your life. We all know how hard that decision is but trust me you will be so glad you did.

Sorry you're experiencing that early stall. I did too and it is frustrating but happens to so many. It's temporary so keep the faith!!! Sounds like your doing the right things. I know I had trouble getting in my Water in the beginning as I'm a chugger and that wasn't happening right after surgery. It gets easier.

Yes I started walking sooooo slowly. My first walk post op I couldn't even make it around my cup de sac let alone a block. Try to remember you're probably taking in less than 1000 calories a day right now so having little energy is to be expected. Hang in there!!!! You've just had a huge surgery, bigger than those little laparoscopic scars indicate. So try to stay focused on healing right now, following your Dr's diet plan for you, and getting your water in. If you wear a tracker to track your steps, set small goals, just a little further than last week is a win.

Hang in there. And reach out again if I can be of further help. You've got a long exciting road in front of you. Take pictures so you can see your progress and enjoy the journey!!!!

I love my new life but I still say the losing was more fun than the keeping it off. it's a marathon not a sprint and my best advice is take this time to create new habits. Making this diet a lifestyle. I no longer feel like I'm on a diet, this is just how I eat now.

Best wishes. And know we're out here cheering you on.

@kourtbourt, good for you! I lost 99 pounds during my six month insurance-required diet program (from 397 to 298 on surgery day). It was the best thing that I did for myself. You'll never regret all of this hard work you have put in before the surgery itself. All of the stalls that you'll face post-op (and you will, everyone does) are SO MUCH EASIER to take when you've taken off a good bit of weight pre-op. Also, it is easier to heal and deal with the food stages when you have already re-defined your relationship with food and conquered your food demons.
Congratulations and best wishes as you move forward!
