I was 62 when I had my bypass and have had no problems!! The lack of energy was a little longer for me because I fell and broke my wrist which they had to operate on 2 months prior to the bypass. It's harder to recover from 2 General Anesthetic as you get older!! I've lost a total of 126 pounds and look younger!

I've suffered from severe depression since I was 15 years old. I was "normal" weight until I hit 50 and a succession of events contributed to a lot of weight gain. I had RNY and it has not affected my medication at all. Did surgery "cure" my depression? Not at all!! But I am at least physically healthier and can get around better!! One less thing I have to worry about!! My diabetes is gone, my high blood pressure is normal and they fixed my hernia. Don't let anyone tell you what you should do!! Only my son and one sister knows I had the surgery for the very reason that I didn't want the judgement or listen to the negativity!! Good luck!! To thine own self be true!!

You sound like me!! 5 months after surgery I was only down about 25 pounds but then it kind of just fell off of me. I am 2 and a half years out and have lost 120 pounds! Don't worry, it will come off unless your are sucking back calories in milkshakes, ice cream etc!

For pain that has lasted that long, even if you have overeaten, I would go and get it looked at!! There could be something else going on. Are you having any problems going to the bathroom before this? The only time I had pain is when I was badly constipated or before I realized the RNY made me lactose intolerant!

I never stopped drinking coffee. I get Migraines if I don't have coffee and, in fact, got a bad Migraine while in the hospital! My son had a coffee waiting for me when he picked me up at the hospital. I am not in any way suggesting that you do as I did but I did and still do drink coffee.

There are so many nice, intelligent people contributing to these forums. Their information is on point, their insight invaluable!! I look for some of these people under all of the comments so that I can follow them for their remarks, advice and humour!!
THEN there are those people, mainly women I'm sorry to say, who take every remark, every answer, every comment that does not suit them and they turn the discussion into a battle!! They seem to feel that everything written is an attack on their sanity, their intellect or their standing in the world!! They go into attack mode with the slightest provocation and insist you leave their thread and their life!! I truly don't understand this kind of mentality and how people with such thin skin can function in the real world!!
It's so nice to a have a forum of like minded individuals, WLS/losing weight, where everything and anything can be discussed. Why ruin it with name calling, direct personal attacks and a militant stance?

I got a PM from OP complaining that I made her feel like <whatever curse word she used>. All because I told her the 3 week stall was normal and her Dr should have explained her surgery to her better.

But the blockbuster is your admission (long suspected by me) that you read BP members' private messages. IMO reading members' private messages is a significant ethical violation by any message board operator. Those who choose to remain here need to understand that clearly.

The snowflakes have taken over BP so beware of any advice you get from now on as the educated people who care about your safety and well being are being banned or leaving of their own accord and the "don't worry, I ate pork chops two days post op and I am fine" nutters are now in charge.
Many of us are joining Obesity Help and have asked Alex to delete out Bp accounts and he has refused ( higher membership= higher revenue)
I intend to stay and post until Alex delete my account or explains how I can delete it.

Yes, Alec, as the owner and operator of this message board you can do anything you want to do with this board.
However, your posts in this thread mischaracterize the ways in which this board's culture and the value it offers WLS patients have declined for some time.

These days there are so many other social media options for support of WLS patients. I urge those leaving BP to explore them all.
I expect that my and some others' opinions will soon vanish when Alex heavily edits or deletes this thread, just as he has deleted other comments and BP threads where members have expressed their opinions about BP's culture and operational policies. But I've bothered to type them anyway.
In closing, I would like to thank the many WLS patients here who contributed to my WLS success (I've lost 100 pounds and have maintained my weight loss for longer than a year). I also thank those who invited my input and who appreciated the help I offered. Help is a two-way street.
