LOL and thanks for posting! So, not to start a war or anything (and sorry you guys feel violated--I for one pledge to stay out of your room and apologize for being a voyeur on how a guy's brain works with relation to WLS issues), and I think it was said here, but new hot threads are posted on the right side of screen. It doesn't let you know to which forum it belongs--so you really can't tell whether you land in the Guys' Forum or in Gynoland, or where exactly. And sadly, if someone's like me, I post, then go up to mosey along back to my previous forum, only then do I see...wholly guacamole! I'm in the Dude Room. Derp. My bad. So a thousand apologies in advance.
But why not go back and start posting there again? It seems ashamed to throw the baby out with the bathwater just cuz of us "ignerent cracker women!" (pssst -- you know we've been trying to bust into y'alls clubhouse since we were all just bitsy, right? Y'all have always had more fun than us!)

"Excuse me Guys? Little help here. GUYS ONLY!!!" This is why we don't post in the guys only section. 99% of the responses are from women and then you get the whole, "Oh sorry, I didn't realize it was guys only."

    LOL

Before I had my RNY I would drink about 20 diet pops a day. I would drink Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Coke Zero, Pepsi Max and Cola Zero (Kroger brand pop). I am almost a year post op and have not had one. I have never even thought about having one. I was able to get that monkey off my back and I don't want it getting back on there.
We are all adults on this site. If you want to drink pop, drink pop. If you want to eat an entire 7 layer chocolate cake then by all means do so. Everyone's weight loss journey is there own. You decide your own fate. You have the ability to sabotage yourself and you and you alone have the ability to make to correct decisions.

    Just my $.02.

I didn't setup a goal, my surgeon just told me, "This is the weight I would like you at." No fuss, no mess. LOL. Look up on the BMI scale and see where you "should" be. You should be happy with where you end up (your goal). Don't listen to others when they tell you that you have lost too much weight or that you need to eat more or that this whole 7 layer chocolate cake won't hurt you. Most of all I would recommend talking to your surgeon or your primary doctor as to where you should be. Good luck to you, even though the weight loss journey is yours, don't forget that you will always have support here with us (your WLS family).

The more time that goes by the easier it gets. I am not going to lie, it sucks the first few months, but then you get used to it and you know what you need to do. Keep up the great work, your weight loss surgery family (us) are here to help and give you the extra support that you need.

Congratulations! My one year will be in October. I can not believe how fast the time has gone. I still do not recognize the person looking back at me in the mirror and still find it hard to take the snide comments (like you need to eat a cheeseburger, you have lost enough weight or my all time favorite, "You don't have AIDS do you?"). Keep up the great work and be proud of what you have accomplished.

Congratulations on your weight loss of 100 pounds. Exercise is an important component.
For the first year after surgery, I exercised daily. Generally this was by hill walking. My driveway was steep and I would walk up and down the driveway for 30 minutes per day. This is a great form of exercise because it uses two different sets of muscles; one set on the way up and a different set on the way down. It was also great because all I had to do was step out my front door. But I am not a great fan of exercise. It feels like wasted effort. But I am a great fan of physical labor. So in the “Maintenance” phase, I relied on physical work. This took several forms.
I live in Indiana. My driveway is 700 feet long. During the winter when it snows, I shovel my driveway. It is strenuous work but without the added weight on my body, it is not hard. I also heat my house all winter with firewood. So during the winter I am constantly moving firewood for my wood stove to keep the house warm.
During the rest of the year, there is cutting a large yard of grass and planting a garden and an assortment of other chores. Even a trip to the mailbox to get the mail is a walk of 1/4 mile.
One of the tasks I worked on over the 2nd and 3rd years post-op was building an underground shelter. Tornados struck about 7 years ago, just after I retired. The tornados did a lot of destruction to my property but spared my house. My house is a one story without a basement and there is really no place to take shelter in the event of another tornado. So I decided to build an underground shelter from an intermodal-shipping container into the side of my hill. Of course, if I build a storm shelter, it should also be a root cellar. And if I go to the effort of building a storm shelter/root cellar then why not go through a little extra effort and build it for Come-What-May, including asteroid impacts, nuclear war and nearby supernovas, etc.
So during that first year I moved around 100,000 pounds of gravel by hand along with around 60,000 pounds of concrete blocks and the next year I moved about the same amount.
This year I built a log cabin playhouse for the grandkids. I just turned 69.

What I have found is that a lot of times people just don't understand and that ignorance makes them come across as being mean or rude. The comments that people make about how much weight we've lost or how little we eat or how different we are from the people we used to be do get old but they also come from people not knowing what to say to us and not understanding what life is like for us now.

So we will keep rocking on and doing what we do and being healthier versions of ourselves and we will smile when people make stupid comments because in the end we are better than letting the ignorance of others steal our sparkle!

Yeah, it's easy to forget what the early stages were like for me. It's so very easy now at just over three months out. It's the cross we must bear. It goes by fast!

I had been told by my surgeon and my dietician that surgery was going to be the easy part of this journey. I did not believe them.
I had seen people say that on this forum and I did not believe them.
I was so scared about my surgery, I couldn't see how that would be the easy part.
Here I am six days post op and I realize that surgery really was the EASY part.
I am back to work and stressed out and all I want to do is eat something and I cannot.
These next few weeks are going to be tough.
Having said that, I do not have any buyers remorse.
Anyone that is getting close to their surgery date, be prepared as surgery is going to be the easy part.

Walk, walk, walk! It helps with the gas, as well as laying on your left side if you can. Mine didn't show up for 24 hours, but then it tapered off after day 4. I would be OK, then full of gas. fart up a storm, then fine again. Rinse and repeat.

I just joined this site yesterday and I was surfing the forums, and I couldn't help recognizing all of the fighting...is this normal? My doctor recommended this site as a source of support as I start this journey, but I'm not so sure. Is this site always so negative?

    That's awesome!!! Congratulations!
I'm thinking of working toward one of those. There are a lot of fundraising 5k's scheduled over the next few months that are catching my eye. I noticed that you said you felt you could run it. Would you mind sharing any tips for those of us who are considering starting to run? I've been more a walking fan but running has a certain draw to it.

My wife and I completed our first official 5K walk on Sunday. We completed it in 56 minutes 38 seconds. I could have run it but my wife thinks she cant run so I walked it with her. It was fun and I am sure that we will do it again in the future.
