    Hello all,

Been a long time since I was here. Lots going on. on 20 Oct 2019 it will be 3 years since my RNY surgery. I have a checkup with my bariatric surgeon today. It is supposed to be every year, but since the emergency surgery last year it has been every six months. I have stopped going to support group (I think it is great but I am not getting anything out of it). I am still about 155 lbs and am pretty happy. Still have sugar issues, but everything else is ok (per blood tests). I get to go next month for the MRCP on my pancreas (I am hoping the IPMN hasn't grown).

I flew from Detroit to Pharr, TX a couple of weeks ago to pick up a Mazda MX5 (my dad gave it to me, he can't drive it anymore), and drove it 1700 miles back to Detroit. Then a little over a week later my wife's brother was killed in an automobile accident. I drove about 500 miles (from Detroit to Carthage, NY) last Thursday (so I could be at his service) and got up the next morning and drove about 500 miles back to Detroit.

Not really feeling it anymore, this is probably going to be my last time seeing my surgeon. I don't need to pay him $40 to have him tell me I am doing fine. I know how I am doing.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Well, the doctor is happy that I lost the weight (I had gained about 15 pounds) and has put me back on the yearly check. My primary doctor does bloodwork and checks everything every time I go to see him. I guess I will stick with my surgeon still, he is a great surgeon and I respect the mans talents. As far as the support group, I think I am done. It was great while I was active in it, but it just repeats every year. We have a plastic surgeon come in one meeting, the program head shrinker another, the Vitamin people another, a holiday party in December, and pretty much talk about the same things at the other meetings. Plus there is only me and one other guy in the group, the rest are females, so everything is geared towards them. I get it. But I am not getting anything out of it.

I guess all I need to worry about now is the IPMN. I have to wait until 20 Nov 2019 for the MRCP. It is the longest hour ever laying in that machine that sounds like it is try to tear itself apart.

Hi, I’m 4 years out and skipped my 3 year appointment because all off my labs to that point had been fine. I had labs in Sept and now my Iron is low as well as D2 and B12. What a difference a few years makes so I would say it’s worth it to check in every year. I didn’t have any idea how bad my levels were.

Hey there, glad to see you! Congrats on 3 successful years.
I know you feel like you don't need this. But between years 3-5 is kind of like a "witching time" where you can suddenly start to gain for no good reason. Please consider staying with your doc on your scheduled plan. If for no other reason than to check your Vitamin levels so you stay healthy long term. It can take around 3-5 years for vitamin and nutritional deficiencies to show up. No lie.
Your health is worth it and in the long term it might turn out to be the smartest decision you've ever made.
Wish you'd stick around and post. Sorry to hear of your BIL. Cool car, though! Yay, you!!

We had our Bariatric Support Group Holiday party and I won a $20.00 gift certificate to the bariatric store (my bariatric surgeon has a store in the office). When I go to see him next month I will be buying some bariatric stuff (food, Protein Drinks, etc). They had a raffle for these certificates this year, last year they had trophies.

I guess that he didn't want to see the images because he has a report (not very good) and he wants the MRCP to verify and identify correctly what it is. But I don't think they can use specific terms (IPMN instead of cyst, etc) if it isn't true. I think they open themselves up to lawsuits if they did. I will wait and see. I guess if I get a call from the office saying that the doctor wants to see me sooner I will then know something is up. It isn't the fact that they found something that bothers me, it is the fact that they don't officially know what it is. Best case, they monitor me until it gets worse, worse case, the pancreas comes out. Like my primary told me, if they take your pancreas out you become a diabetic, you are already a diabetic.

So, I stopped taking the elevator at work and started taking the stairs. I work on the 8th floor so I walk up and down 8 flights of stairs 4 to 5 times a day 3 to 4 days a week. I work from home on Mondays so I can't do it on Mondays and I am off every other Friday so I can't do it then. Before my RNY surgery I felt like I was going to puke my lungs up on anything past the 4th flight of stairs. Now I can do 8 flights with being just a little out of breath.

    I love my pouch.

So last month (7 Sept 2018) I had an emergency surgery because I had a blocked bowel. It happens (not sure how it took almost two years after my gastric bypass, but), not to everyone, but it happened to me. So they took me to one hospital ER that was close by my work. It took them an hour to get me into a bed and they finally took me to get a CT Scan. It took two hours to get any type of information from the CT Scan and I was told that I "may possibly" have a blocked bowel. They needed to consult with a surgeon. About an hour later they came back and said that I had a blocked bowel but that the hospital I was at didn't do any type of bariatric surgery. So they said they would transfer me to their sister hospital that does this type of surgery. They called for an ambulance and my wife drove over to the other hospital (about 5 or 6 miles away). Three hours later the ambulance came for me. The other hospital kept calling because they had a surgical team waiting for me. Surgery went well (although I am not bouncing back as fast from this surgery) and I was doing ok. I was trying to get the surgical notes for my bariatric surgeon (just so he could have a record of what was done) and I ran across the CT Scan notes. It turns out I have a possible IPMN (Intraductal Papillary Mucinous Neoplasm) (or possibly pancreatic cancer) in the head of my pancreas. Nobody from the hospital told me about this and if I hadn't of been looking for the reports for my surgeon I would never have known. Now I have to wait until 13 Nov 2018 to go to a specialist and see what is going on. Needless to say, I have googled this and am now pretty shaken up. I don't blame the surgeon (he was just there to unblock the bowel, (which they said if I would have waited any longer the bowel would have started to die) but I really think that some doctor from either one of the hospitals would have said, "Hey, you might want to get this checked out." Sorry for rambling on about this, just worried.

I did the MRCP and got the results Saturday. No doctor was discussed this with me yet, but according to the report, I have a 1.7 x 1.0 CM septated cyst in the ventral neck of my pancreas. For a pancreatic cyst of this size, the current guidelines recommend a 6 month follow-up MRCP OR further evaluation with endoscopic ultrasound and aspiration. While I am happy that the guidelines recommend observation, it does bother me that it has grown from 15 x 7 mm to 1.7 x 1.0 cm in just over 2 months.

So I went to the gastro doctor yesterday. He didn't even look at the images from the hospital. We went over the CT scan results and he said that even though the IPMN is small, he wishes it was smaller. I am going for a MRCP Scan on Monday (it is basically a MRI of your pancreas)(and I have to give them the disk with the CT scan images) and I go back to the gastro doctor in January and we devise a game plan on what we are going to do. He said I shouldn't worry (yeah, I tell that to my wife when I try to get her not to worry about something I am worried about). So good thing I am off work next week (I have use or lose leave). I told my wife that she is NOT to tell her family or my family or our girls about what is going on until we have a better idea of what we are dealing with. I really should tell my daughters but I don't want them to worry. I said it once and I will say it again, "So, now once again I sit and worry."
