I think your best bet is to go with a gluten free "noodle" and/or spaghetti squash.. Or make zoodles.. Part of this is learning new ways so we don't end up right back where we were.. Munky

It's not hypocrisy. As you rightly mentioned, eating for pleasure got me to over 400lbs and limited mobility, high blood pressure and borderline diabetic. I understood when I decided to have surgery that food and I could no longer have the same relationship. It's a hard mindset to change but if I want to be successful (which I do or I wouldn't have had a major surgery to significantly alter my body) I have to stop thinking of food as comfort and pleasure and treating food as what it is supposed to be - sustenance only. I find pleasure in the activities I can now do.
So I don't hate food because I'm losing weight. I'm getting healthy because I changed my relationship with food.
Any of the successful post ops - of which there are many on here and I plan to be one of them - will tell you this process is much more mental than physical. The surgery is just a tool to help you as you actively address the mental aspects. The surgeon only changes your stomach, you have to decide if you want to address the issues that led you to needing surgery and if you do, that work to address them is all on you.

@@mallnut not for me. Some people do well with moderation, others need to abstain in order to have success. I am one of those who needs to abstain. Since I've lost over 200 lbs and am maintaining at a healthy weight, I'd say I've made the right decisions for myself.
I consider all the food I eat now to be good food. Noodles, rice, Pasta, bread, and white potatoes are all bad foods* to me, not good foods. If I'm going to have a treat at Christmas or for my birthday, I'm going for the gusto -- a slice of my mother's famous pecan pie or a piece of my father's legendary Yorkshire pudding with prime rib drippings. Not a (to me) boring bland bowl of noodles that are neither fun nor nutritious.
*shorthand for foods that do nothing for me nutritionally, cause me to have cravings for more high carb foods, and/or are not particularly appealing anyway.

i think we have different definitions of what a "good" food is. For me - Pasta, rice, bread are just empty carbs that take up valuable real estate in my sleeve without offering anything good nutrition-wise. SInce my sleeve limits how much volume I can consume, I want to focus on consuming things that actually provide nutrition like Protein and non-starchy veggies.

Plus for many post ops - Pasta and rice are not tolerated well since they tend to swell in the stomach which will make you very uncomfortable/miserable after eating.

If you want to add carbs to your diet, do it - it's your body but don't expect the same weight loss results as someone who doesn't. And if you eat them and don't reach your goal weight, understand that it is because of the choices you made and not that the surgery failed.

I used the sugar free Torani syrups - i bought a couple of flavors. This helps to just change up a flavor a little bit when you start getting bored of the shakes. Sugar free coconut Syrup in a vanilla shake (it doesn't take much) was a favorite. I've also added a tiny bit of instant coffee to a chocolate shake. For my Syntrax Nectar fruit flavor powders, I made them with crystal light lemonade - it helped cut some of the protein-y taste and smell. My nutritionist allowed for a small amount of banana to be added but cautioned that she didn't really recommend it because of the amount of sugar it adds but said it was an option if we really couldn't handle the taste of the shake without it.

It depends on what is allowed by your plan. When I was on soft foods, I had good luck with seafood, including grilled salmon, scallops, and those little packets of flavored tuna and salmon. Sliced deli roast beef was also good.
All that said, at 22 days out I was still on full liquids as per my plan and soft foods wasn't for several more weeks. Did your team not give you an eating plan with suggestions? If they did, take a look at it, they may have more tailored ideas than random internet strangers. Good luck!

everyone is different. stalls happen but not on a set schedule. For example - I didn't lose ANYTHING the first 2 weeks post op, nothing. I can't really even call that a stall, more like a delayed start. Right now just focus on healing and following your program and stay off the scale for a while if it is going to upset you that much.

Today make a month since I had my Gastric bypass surgery. So happy to be here , to feel the weight come off and see it and to hear others say how good I'm looking. Though I told myself this surgery was not for me to look good , that's not why I did it, even though I do want that to come in play as well , but I did it to feel good, be healthy and I can say I am off diabetes meds, high blood pressure meds and my knees feel much , much , much better. Starting weight was 377lbs , pre-op weight 353 today 317 . September the 14 when I laid on that operating table I told myself this change is for you. Don't do it for nobody else but for you.

10 days post op and I'm finally starting to feel human. People said I would but I couldn't believe them after the first week.
I'm able to drink more and take more than small sips to get Water in. Today I walked the most I've walked since surgery 4000 steps. I don't feel drained or tired. Eating a bit more bit by bit. The gas is pretty much none existent as I've made myself walk EVERYDAY!!
For those of you that have just been sleeved please know it gets better. It may not seem like it at the moment but it will.
All the best to you all!!

Just be cautious and follow your doctor's orders don't push it getting down more than you should you CAN stretch your stomach back out if you don't be careful... You're going to have some hair loss but from everything I've read on it it's temporary and your hair will be fine.. Make sure you got your chewable Vitamins and take them to make sure you're getting your nutrients.. G'luck with everything Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

I had United Health Care when I had my surgery 2 years ago. They have strict policies but given you have a BMI over 40 you wont even need comorbitities.
They did require that I use a Bariatric Center Of Excellence and that I had a supervised 6 month diet with that center of excellence.
I had all my ducks in a row and they submitted at 9am in the morning and by 1pm the surgeons office was calling me to schedule because I had been approved. My BMI was 44 and I did have 4 of the 5 comorbitities.
Surgery for me was a piece of cake (pardon...) but it took some getting used to the new eating plan. I have since lost 152lbs and am at a normal healthy weight.
All my comorbitities are gone and some serious illnesses in remission.
I have since begun plastics because I have alot of loose skin and it is exciting in this whole new body.
    Best of luck to you!

I think it just depends on diff things for diff people and how your surgeon does things compared to others plus all insurances are different as well.. My first meeting with the surgeon was way back in January and the first thing I had to do was be off cigz for 2 months before he'd even let me begin all the tests n stuff.. Then had some issues come up with some of those.. But my last appt me he told me he wanted me to do 4 weeks of the 2 week pre surg diet starting this past Monday, I see him the 20th,hopefully by then they will have gotten my approval and a date for my surgery Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App
