Lucky2Lose got a reaction from BigUtahMan in What was your defining moment?
Mine was..last year, I lost 30 lbs on a medically monitored diet, exercise plan. It was hard..it took almost a year to get that 30 lbs off. After I stopped taking the pill..I quickly regained that weight back and was worried I would regain even more..then my diabetes seemed harder to control. My once 1 pill a day went to 3. My Dad has had diabetes for 30 years. He is not overweight..eats right AND goes to the gym everyday..but yet he's had kidney failure issues, heart issues and all it is tied to his diabetes. He ask me to please get mine under control now before it was too late. I knew it was time to take control once and for all. I have 20 of those 30 lbs back off and I'm off my diabetes medicines. My biggest yay me moment. I am determined to get the other 10 off before my birthday Jan 17th and then I'll set another goal.

Lucky2Lose got a reaction from Erykah2017 in Gastric bypass versus Sleeve
My Dr also recommended the bypass because I was diabetic and there appears to be more success rate with the bypass and diabetics..but I chose the sleeve..it's considered the safest of the two and I know two people personally where the daughter got the bypass and the mom got the sleeve and the daughter has been in the hospital several times after her bypass for dehydration and other complications and the mom hadn't had any issues. Luckily I have had no issues either. I feel great..my sugar is normal and I am off my meds. I also didn't have problem with sugar which is another reason people pick the bypass to keep from eating sweets if they get dumping syndrome. The sleeve also requires less Vitamins for life. My issue was binge eating..over eating even good foods. I chose the sleeve and it was the right choice for me for sure slow and steady wins the race in my book.

Lucky2Lose reacted to orionburn in I miss carbonated drinks
People seem to handle carbonation differently. Generally it seems most can't have it. The carbonation just doesn't sit well in our smaller stomachs. For others though they can drink some in moderation. I was a Diet Dew nut prior to surgery. Do I miss it a bit? Sure. But I also know I was drinking too much and it wasn't good for me whether it was diet or not. I honestly thing kicking soda is a big reason why I've felt so much better post-op.
We all have our own things we struggle with, but this is part of the problem with not facing addictions before the surgery. Getting a sleeve doesn't fix those cravings. For me I've been too preoccupied with everything else going on to miss sodas that much. I have a wide enough drink selection to keep me satisfied. All I can suggest is to keep as much good variety of drinks in the house as possible.

I am drinking decaf..my surgical team said no caffeine for three months post op. I have found some great Decaf Beans I grind and it's taste is very close to caffeinated and so delicious, I may never go back to caffeinated.

Lucky2Lose got a reaction from sleevedviolet in Smoking
I was a smoker..but I changed to eCigs and vapor and moved down to 0 nicotine, 3 months before my surgery because they wouldn't allow me to have unless I stopped but they were fine with the eCig at 0 nicotine. It is more than just bad for your body..it can cause life threatening ulcers in your stomach after surgery. I found switching slowly down levels of nicotine I didn't have any cravings. I also found that just having the ecig and blowing vapors solved my need. You should give it a try..I just say..don't risk your life anymore by continuing with the cigs. You should want a healthy lifestyle after surgery..so I say strive for it in all areas. Good luck!

Lucky2Lose got a reaction from sweesee in Best friend totally unsupportive.
Is she heavy as well? I did not tell my best friend I had surgery because I knew she wouldn't be supportive. She's always been my eating out buddy. One of her other friends had WLS and I got to hear her talk about what a stupid decision it was..I decided to tell a couple of coworkers that I knew would be supportive and my immediate family. I only wanted positive support and although I love my best friend..I wasn't going to listen to her being negative toward my decision..or worse..think she could talk me out of it..so 10 weeks out and she still doesn't know. Somethings to some people just don't need to be shared.
