  1. My post op plan was 2 weeks of liquids, then 2 weeks purees, etc. Mine got back to normal as soon as I started the puree phase.

    Pain under ribs and back

I'm 3 weeks post and having the same. Actually the pain under my ribs has gotten much better the last couple of days, but the back pain is still there. I was worried because it's right where my left kidney is I think. Had a follow-up visit with P.A. couple days ago who seemed to think it was nothing to worry about. He said if I started experiencing urinary symptoms to see my pcp. I felt a little like it was blown off, but I'm going to give it more time. It's a sharp stabbing pain pretty much only when I move a certain way or sneeze or something. It stabs when I inhale deeply.

    3 weeks out, food volume?

I made a chicken salad yesterday that turned out surprisingly palatable. I used a can of chicken, a scoop of non-fat, plain Greek yogurt, a few pecans and raisins. A few seconds in the vita - mix blender and it was done. It was good! I ate it plain. Would have been great on crackers, but I'm sticking to my plan of purees only.

    Cream for scars?

What have you used to lighten appearance if surgical scars? I have a light olive complexion, so I think scars tend to be more visible. Is straight coco butter best? Shea butter? When did you start applying it and did it help? All the glue finally came off and I would like to be proactive. Any suggestions?

    Lower starting BMI and weightloss

I went in to surgery just below 34 bmi. I was told to expect to be a slow loser and not to compare my weight loss numbers with others. Surgery was almost 3 weeks ago and I've only lost 10 lbs, but overall I'm down 26 lbs from my first consult, mainly due to the pre-op liquid diet. I don't mind a slower loss. Fewer raised eyebrows and likely fewer skin issues.

    Cream for scars?

Some things can't be helped. Others can. Nothing wrong with addressing something that can be improved. If it doesn't bother you, great! What might bother a person can differ wildly from individual to individual and that's ok. :-)

    3 weeks out, food volume?

Thank you for that reminder. I think I will try pureed chicken salad tomorrow like you suggested. I like salmon, so that's an option too, as well as egg salad. Probably better protein -wise than the beans and cauliflower I've been eating. Still supplementing with shakes to meet protein goals.

    3 weeks out, food volume?

Thanks for the info. I don't think I was given volume amts for each stage, but it's possible I've forgotten in the whirlwind of new info.

Rate Of Weight Loss, Those Starting Under 200 Lb?

We are really similar!! I am 44 yrs old, but I'm taller (5'5"). I was 207 at my first consult, 192 on day of surgery. I'm 5 weeks out and I weigh 181.8. It's been really slow for me--lots of standing still, tiny ups and downs--but it'll come off. That's not saying I don't wish it wasn't faster, but this appears to be the way it's going to go.You've got a great attitude. Yes, I believe it will come off too. It can be tough to avoid comparing yourself with others. 3 pounds per week can discourage me a little, but over several months it will add up!

Rate Of Weight Loss, Those Starting Under 200 Lb?

I'm 44 yrs old, 5'3" tall. My first consult weigh-in was 206. After the pre-op liquid diet I think I was 190 on the day of surgery. I'm about 2 weeks post-op now and scale says 183. I was told up front to expect to be a slower loser due to starting out in the lower bmi. I'm good with that. I too think it's important to look at %excess weight rather than raw number comparisons. So far I've just been walking, but I can tell a difference in how I feel already. Looking forward to trying some yoga and dance classes when I get cleared for it. Slower loss has its upsides too.
  11. I was sleeved only 9 days ago. Granted, I had been dropping weight as I went thru the process and waited for insurance approval, but I can't believe it, already I can sleep on my back without waking myself up snoring! It's amazing!!! I used to be a back-sleeper, but 10 years ago with the pregnancy of my son, I started sleeping on my side. After he was born my weight would go up and down, up and down and I never got to sleep on my back again. I pretty much trained myself to be a side-sleeper so I wouldn't snore. Well, with these incisions, I've been back-sleeping again and have not been waking myself up snoring anymore. I feel so much more rested now that I can sleep in the position most comfortable.

    What was your "last" meal?

Triple Grande pumpkin spice latte. And it was delicious.
  13. I was feeling pretty rough on days 1 and 2, but significantly improved by day 3. By day 4 I was worried something was wrong because I was having no trouble getting in all my fluid and protein. I know experiences vary greatly and I'm so thankful to be feeling so good so soon. But yeah, I totally get the whole "something must be wrong feeling.

    No goal weight.

I think that's great! Who wants to be obsessing over the scale every day? I just want to be at a healthy bmi and would love it if my blood pressure went down low enough to get off those meds and my a1c went out if the pre-diabetic range. Those are my goals. Oh and to live a longer, healthier more full life so that I have a chance to experience being a grandma one day. :-)
  16. Hey guys. I've been lurking for a while and have learned so much, but now I have a question. I was sleeved on 10/10 (5 days ago). I'm on the post-op full liquid diet for 2 weeks. I've been putting a few ice cubes in my blender with the Protein powder and almond milk. I like the slushy texture. But now I'm wondering if I shouldn't? I know ice chips were ok immediately after surgery and sugar free Popsicles are ok, so I figured the slushy Protein shake was ok too. But of course it makes the shake thicker. Any reason not to do this? I feel like I can take in the required liquids with no problem and I guess I'm worried that I've already stretched my sleeve. Is that even possible this early on? Ice in the blender with my protein powder

Thanks CedarMan. I know post-op diets can vary from one practice to another. My surgeon has us do clear liquids only til the day after surgery. Once discharged from the hoslital we are allowed full liquids which include milk... as long as you can tolerate it of course. Sent from my SM-G900V using the BariatricPal App

Ice in the blender with my protein powder

Thank you so much. That puts my mind at ease. Initially I think the icy sensation felt good on my throat which was a little sore from intubation. But then I had a panic moment thinking I was already screwing up by making my Protein Shakes thicker. I tend to overthink sometimes. Your explanation totally makes sense.
