kraek9 got a reaction from dvmp61 in What is your pre-op diet?
I don't have a pre op diet required. I am just on a balanced meal plan, but I don't have to change anything as surgery gets closer. We are expected to loose 5-10 pounds overall with the balanced pre op diet while all your appointments are being taken care of.

I am worried about this as well my husband and we have been together since high school and through many changes. food is, however, something that we both enjoy. Not pigging out, but just experiencing different foods. When I brought up weight loss surgery, he was very supportive. He has been wanting to make a change as well and preparing for surgery has helped us. We go on walk every day after work, we don't eat fast food any more. He is very supportive with my gluten free lifestyle as well. We check menus before eating out and if they bring us bread we rub it on the table to so won't eat it . He does forget sometimes. The other day he brought home sour candies and said he realized I can't have any, so he opened them up and poured mustard on them and threw them right away. Wasting $2 is better than the temptation!

I had RNY on the 5th at 7:30am. I was discharged on the 6th at 4pm. Gas pains aren't really pain more like discomfort. My indications just started hurting today. I walk a lot more then I sit just because I had so much gas in me. And I burp... a ton! Other than that I feel myself getting better. I hurt in the morning when I wake up but once I start walking I feel better. I am much better then I thought I would be!

My husband, mom, dad, sister, and mother in law know. I am going to tell my best friend after the surgery and after my first few months. She has a model body and I just don't think she will understand but if she sees the results after then she will be happy for me. My work knows I am having surgery but that's it. They didn't need to know anything else. I will take one week of PTO and then work from home for two weeks. I'm not telling anyone but I will tell them I have changed my lifestyle. I am also now gluten free and that has helped me loose weight.

You probably won't be slee ping (vitals checks every two hours, noisy compression sleeves, buzzing IVs), and neither will they. Send them home; they don't need to be there.

I am self pay (have insurance, it just doesn't cover surgery) in DFW and I have my surgery on Monday. I received a bill from my endoscopic dr that I wasn't expecting but my insurance is trying to have me only pay a little. If it is a bill from the hospital go up there and say I only have this much in cash or check and try to negotiate the price. Hospitals will negotiate if you are standing there trying to give them cash! They will take lower amounts than what is expected!

I was 23 when I had my bypass last August. My highest weight two years ago was 442 (well, highest recorded weight. I have a strong feeling I was heavier than that). I was 387 the day of surgery, and today I weigh 221. I've lost exactly half my weight... according to the records, anyway.
