  1. Thanks, and believe me, I am starving, which is probably why I am not losing weight. I hate every single food on my list right now. Right now I just hate everything- I hate feeling sore, I hate the time I have taken away from my young son because I have been recovering. When I think about how I let a surgeon take 85% of my stomach out, I want to throw up. It seems so barbaric. I wish I had tried harder to lose this weight on my own or love myself no matter what what size. I wish I could rewind time and cancel my surgery. Plus my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer recently and I just couldn't have done this at a worse time. I'm really struggling. I'm sorry to hear you are having such a rotten time I'm curious to know what sort of preparation you had before surgery? I hope things improve for you soon Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
  2. I'm scheduled for this Wednesday (gastric sleeve) and I have a f*cking cold right now! Yesterday was the worst of the symptoms, slight fever and bad congestion. Today it seems better but have not kicked it yet. I'm in the 2 week liquid diet phase so I've been sucking down lots of Water, hot broth and caffine free tea....as well as extra Vitamins like zinc and Vitamin c. I have been using a saline spray & running a super hot shower several times a day and walking on the treadmill to try and sweat it out. everything but Tylenol is on the pre-surgery banned list for this week. I'm hoping as it's Saturday that will give me enough time to recover before Wednesday. I can't reschedule anything until after the weekend anyway. Did anyone else have this problem in the week before surgery? I'm completely expecting the surgery to be rescheduled if I'm still sick on Wednesday but I'm doing everything I can to kick these germs out!! Please share your suggestions and advice?? First lie!

I did the same thing a couple of days ago....told my first surgery fib! I was quite shocked because I am pretty open with people & I am not at all comfortable with lies. My surgery is on Wednesday, and up until this point I've been quite open and honest with people (I have a blog too!). People who I don't want to know I just don't talk about it with. The lie happened because I have neighbor who has a group of friends who are involved with a church and they are ALL constantly knocking on my door trying to get my involved in the church also (no means no, I mean it really means that where I'm from...) They are judgmental freaking passive aggressive stuck up people who only pester me out of ignorance (not because they are kind). They make horrible comments to me with a smile on their face. ANYWAY, long story short they had been harassing me relentlessly about doing some church related thing this week and because my no obviously means nothing to them in frustration I blurted out that I couldn't because I'm having surgery.... Well then came the relentless "why" questions & in a moment of weakness and because I have to live near this annoying person I lied and said it was for a hernia. I feel weak and pathetic. I don't believe for a second there is any shame in weightloss surgery - but I don't want to deal with prejudice from people who I know will think it's shameful. Arg! Yay finally a surgery buddy!! hope you don't get sick - hydration is the key I think! I've double the amount of water I normally drink and I think it's helping....literally flushing the germs out!! Goodluck, will stay in touch! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

Surgery on Wednesday & I have a cold!

I'm not sure but I don't think so....I won't be able to contact my surgeons office until Monday & he is really strict with what we can and can't have (he cancels surgeries all the time because people don't follow the guidelines). I am still hopeful I can be well enough by Wednesday!!!!! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

    A New World

Hello I can tell you a bit about my experience with the psych side of things. For me, I was just completely honest during the eval (I have PTSD, agoraphobia, anxiety and a bunch of other related mental health problems). The person doing my eval passed me on the condition that I keep getting treatment and I just had to discuss & show my treatment plans. I think it's more of a problem if you screen for a mental health issue that you are not getting treatment for. Sounds like you have a solid treatment plan. (I have had many hospitalizations for PTSD episodes). Goodluck :-) Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

    First day on liquid diet!

My headaches got better around day 3. I was allowed to take Tylenol and that helped. Are you allowed broth or strained Soup? That's really helping me get through it (I'm currently in week 2). Goodluck Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

    September 2016 Sleevers!

I'm planning on taking very little. The clothes I wear to hospital, Vaseline (for my lips), toothbrush (I'm not even bothering with toothpaste), dry mouth rinse (biotene), wipes (for face, hands and other parts!) and on the advice of some of the folks on the other side of surgery I am going to take some gas-x strips with me. Pretty much everything will fit in my handbag. Will also keep my phone with me, and some headphones but sending my wallet home with my better half. Random items im taking: 2 bottles of Fiji Water and a couple of disposable Soup spoons. Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-Op Weight Loss

Hahaha this made me laugh - and cry! Because I am currently moving into week 2 of my pre-op liquid diet and everything has been "moving" along normally, then last night - LORD HAVE MERCY - constipation hit me like a brick (yep!). I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and they gave me some sample laxatives so I dug them out and downed one! Afterwards I read the back and it states: "produces a bowel movement within 12-72 hours" !! What sort of timeframe is that!? If I could turn back time I would be adding the fiber to my shakes at the beginning of last week!! I've just never had this problem!! TAKE NOTHING FOR GRANTED DURING THIS PROCESS!! Moving forward its added fiber all the way until I can actually eat real food again. I encourage everyone to strongly consider doing the same, because it's not fun - really not fun! How do I know when I am full?

Omg! "sliming" and "foaming" sound like something I wish to avoid!! Good motivation for eating very slowly, chewing thoroughly and very small amounts.... I really hope I can avoid sliming and foaming post op! These forums are so informative!! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
  20. I was wondering how it all went (my turn next Wednesday!!). Good to hear that the anxiety part seems laughable...I hope I feel the same way this time next week!! Wishing you a speedy recovery! Hoping you don't have to wait too long for a coffee lol Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
  21. I actually was able to do my sleep study at home. I had to go to the center at around 8pm & they gave me the monitor and showed me how to hook myself up to it & I took it home (I just had to have all the equipment back by the following night). Originally I was meant to stay overnight but they decided to send me home to do it. It was pretty straightforward but I didn't sleep much! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-op liquid diet: crashed!

Hahaha this certainly made me smile - thank you I will inform him he needs to start working on his stamina (I'm still laughing!). So much support from the forums today, I've almost forgotten how miserable I was this morning! Thanks again Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App

    Pre-op liquid diet: crashed!

The scene you have just described is exactly what is happening in my house right now haha! The brain fog is very thick!! I'm struggling with figuring out all our bills...or I start a conversation and end up trailing off with a thousand mile stare at the wall lol My husband is supportive but giving me lots of "what the F is going on with you" comments!! Thankyou for taking the time to share this with me. I love hearing how all these "abnormal" freaky things are actually normal Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
  25. My class briefly touched on the specifics of the surgery types & also the importance of exercise. Most of it went into detail with nutrition and the reasons why we need to hit Protein goals, take our Vitamins (specifically the type of vitamins) & especially liquid intake. We also went into detail about the two week pre-op clear liquid diet. My center is very strict about this and made sure we were crystal clear on what we can and can't have during this stage. I was shocked at some of the questions people asked I would say expect people to ask anything!! lol Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App ....I forgot to add there were probably over 50 people in my class. It was intense but informative! Sent from my iPod touch using the BariatricPal App
