It has been very different for me. I didnt feel any restriction after the revision. It was also more painful for me but I had a hiatal hernia repair also. I was given yogurt and strained Soup in the hospital the same day as surgery.

Having a revision to my sleeve having the RYN on 4/10 due to hernia and GERD. Now with this corona going on I’m scared as of yet they have not postponed my surgery. Wondering if I should postpone it

I revised from sleeve to rny almost 9 weeks ago because of gerd.
I am just now starting to have pretty bad Hair loss so it does happen with each surgery.

I am not due to have Vitamin levels checked until next month. I keep up with taking Vitamins and if there are any deficiencies, I will correct them. I think that a person just has to stay on top of being checked so that nothing gets too far out of control.

I no longer have gerd and my hernia was repaired. So far the surgery has been well worth it.

I managed with two weeks off, it was exhausting though. I really limited my activity the best I could, but even then I was still walking 5+ miles a day. I just felt so weak, with such little calories and activity, I guess that’s to be expected.

    Quick update :
I am still doing well, very uneventful revision story now so not much to add. Weight fluctuates down then back up to baseline depending on my eating style. But no complaints at all
    Hope that helps ❤

carlacv reacted to JohnnyMadison in Sleeved 2016 now have Hiatal herniaDr recommends RYN? Recovery?
I had gastric sleeve revision to RNY on Monday (today is Wednesday). This was due to uncontrollable GERD which caused Barrett's Esophagus and a a hiatal hernia . The total procedure was ~ 3 hours. I have had my left hip replaced (twice, due to a recall) and VSG. The RNY was for sure the most painful of all. I believe it was mostly due to the surgical gas and it is dissipating (Gas-X did seem to help). Swallowing is already better without the hernia and I haven't had a lick of acid reflux which is amazing after a 7 year battle post-VSG. I had kept most of my weight off (5'11" / 205#) and so they didn't bypass as much of my intestines as normal and they made the pouch bigger. While I didn't have to do a pre-op supervised diet, because insurance treated it as a GERD-related procedure, I still had to do the group sessions at the hospital which was a repeat of all I know. For me the battle was accepting that I needed revision, I viewed it as a failure of the original WLS which was not the case -- I had kept 100#+ off for 7 years. But there is just that perception.

Hopefully my post above answered this for you. I wanted to add that I did get the stomach numbing injections on both sides during surgery. I think that it helped a lot.
i did not get those injections with my sleeve.

I just had to do this exact same revision for exact same reason 3 weeks ago.
The first week was rough but I think that it was not as painful as my sleeve was. At 3 weeks out things are getting much better.
My restriction is much tighter since revision than it was with sleeve. My surgery was scheduled for 4 hours but ended up taking 5.5 hours. Once my surgeon took a look from the inside my hernia ended up being huge. He did a repair with mesh. I had robotic surgery.
I do hope that helped and good luck!

I think a lot of it is relative to your prior experiences. I've had broken ribs, a broken pelvis, open hysterectomy, a total knee replacement, thoracic surgery to remove a tumor from my esophagus, and two babies. ALL of these had far more pain than the RNY. RNY was a piece of cake. Yes, there was soreness and pain for a week or two, especially on our bumpy road, but each week got better and easier. I needed a couple doses of morphine during the first night in the hospital. After I got home, I took a couple doses of Tramadol and then it was liquid Tylenol only. I started walking right away and was up to 10,000 steps by the end of the first week. I was really worried about gas pain. I don't know why that concerned me so much, but I never had any gas pain at all, which was great.
If you got through the sleeve OK, you will be fine with RNY.

Sleeved 2017 no problems and recovery was fast and easy. Now experience Issues with hiatal hernia. Surgeon has me do upper UGI and endoscopy recommends RYNY ti remove hernia and help with Gerd. Anyone done this how is the recovery?

Thank you that’s what I was wondering but even 20lbs might actually be worth it.

Thank you for your input I just was asking about the success rate from individuals who have had the revision from sleeve to RNY. I know what my food intake can be greater and i have been changing it of course. This procedure is one I am considering and i do not take it lightly. I’m just trying to research this as much as I can thank you

Had sleeve 9/2016 was doing great till 6-8 months ago started regaining weight (30+) yes I have been eating more but nothing drastic and still exercise 1 hour a day. So frustrating! Saw my surgeon says I qualify for RNY I’m considering it but he told me that I won’t loose that much more. Can you tell me what the average would be and how successful people have or have not been with a revision. Having a UGI later this month to rule out reflux (not sure if I have that) thank you!

carlacv got a reaction from Frustr8 in Anyone had kaiser pay for their arms and tummy tuck?
I have kaiser permanente they did my sleeve almost 2 years ago, I heard that some patients have gotten their Tummy Tuck and arms approved by them or they refer them out but pay for it. I have kaiser and live in southern California and are that in Northern California they refer out. Just wondering how hard it is to get it approved and if it’s worth doing it through them. Thank you!

My surgeon told me never again. I cried so much since I was a heavy coca-cola addict since age 5! Had several a day. I got sleeved 9/27 and I haven't looked back! Don't drink it! I won't even contemplate a sip I'm afraid I'll go back to it. So I had to divorce it!
