mrsNilla got a reaction from madkourt in Normal?
Please don't take this the wrong way, but I at least don't want to go back to how I ate before, if that's what you mean with normal. That's what got me obese and having to have surgery.
I fully hope and expect to have less room in my stomach so I have a back up reminder if I make an error in judgement and try to eat too much.
Doggy bags are normal and if you go out in a group, maybe there is a guy who would be very happy to have your left overs? It will be an issue only if you make it one.
    Good luck on your journey!

I take this chewable B12 and it tastes great. It's also very small, just in case you don't care for the flavour.

I can only speak on my behalf, but rny is harder for me than "normal dieting". I was always able to lose weight, but couldn't maintain my results. I lost more weight on my over 2 month pre-op diet than post-op. I developed a stricture, I dump on carbs really easily, my pouch is grumpy as can be.
But, I'm really hoping to be able to maintain this time. That's why I decided to do this.

If we all woke up from surgery skinny, fit from workouts, without sagging skin and without the need for Vitamins and life long check ups, then yes, I could see how wls could be considered an easy way out.
We all have to endure surgery, recovery, possible complications, liquid diets, learning what we can eat, exercise, track all food and liquids, cut back on social drinking, possible endure corrective surgery and recovery and finally maintain all that we accomplished, with the work WE did.
So yeah, go ahead, call us lazy. We are saving money, since we can cut back on meds. We did this so we can be productive members of society, instead of couch potatoes. We can take care of our elderly family members etc.
I'm proud that I had the courage to have this surgery. I still don't tell everyone I know about it, since it's my personal medical desicion. If someone asks or is thinking about having the surgery, I will be happy to explain and tell my story. My obese friends know about it, because they might benefit from seeing me do it. The skinny people in my life don't need the info, so why should I tell them?
I don't agree that it is my obligation to educate people, just because they are curious.
My friend was born transgender and she told me that she was having corrective surgery and started living as her tru self. I don't need to know the specifics or see the results of her surgery. I'm simply happy for her that she is now able to be herself and I can see the huge improvement in her everyday life.

You'd better glean whatever pearls of wisdom you can from them quickly as the successful vets......the very ones who have have helped bring many of us to a much better weight and state of being.....are being permanently banned from this sight.
The good news is....the newbies that feel like lost sheep can take comfort in the fact that any and every imaginable "bariatric product" is only a click away. They will be able to shop until their heart is content around here. Lot's of product for sale.
The 2 year plus successful vets don't rely on such products.....don't buy them......therefore are of little value here, it would seem.
It's a sad state of affairs around here.
If the goal were for us to help each other lose unwanted weight and improve our lives.......the vets would stay and the interaction here would flourish.
Sadly.....the goal seems to be to sell product.
I and many other would gladly pay a membership fee to keep the doors open and support the costs associated with running the sight.

For me, soon 7 weeks out, I have a lot of things reducing my eating. Here are a few of my reasons:
    - I'm simply not hungry and forget to eat sometimes
    - the restriction of my pouch makes all my meals very small
    - I dump on all sweet foods in tiny amounts and even all fast/simple carbs if I don't have enough Proteins with them
    - I have to eat enough Proteins every day and I don't have room for bad choices
    - I drink all the time and have to plan my eating around it, so unplanned Snacks never happen
    - foods taste different, I don't even care for sweet foods like yogurt, I would rather have something salty
I have to use an app to track my diet, otherwise I end up eating and drinking way too little. My fitness pal is a very good app for this, if you aren't using one yet.
    Good luck to you!

Yeah, because paying $500-$12,000 is "easy". Only drinking liquid for 1-4 weeks is "easy". Having 5-6 holes put into you is "easy". Dealing with CO2 gas pain is "easy". Avoiding eating and drinking at the same time is "easy".
These people frustrate me. I saw something like this a few weeks ago from a news reporter who posted something on FB about a guy who lost a bunch of weight, and that he did it the "right" way. Last time I checked, as long as you're making changes to get healthier, it's considered the "right" way.

@@suzzzzz Good points. We need to be ready to educate others, but not at the expense of ourselves. If we can share with others without worrying about how it will affect us personally, it goes a long way toward "advancing the cause".

I just wanted to say that I thought the fist year was tough and my goodness it was! With all the lifestyle changes that have to be made to lose all of your weight and all the changes to your body.
I have learned since than as many vets warned me....Maintenance is even harder yet. Mostly because you have met your weight loss goal and now you need to figure out how to live in this new world. You don't have the motivation of the scale or changes in clothing sizes.
Your motivation is more focused on staying healthy and not fitting in all those new clothes you bought.
It is way harder than I thought it would be but it is doable. It is doable because my tool will always be there for me to help me control myself. As long as I make good decisions, I should be in great shape 10, 15, 20 years from now. That is my goal......and thank goodness I have a tool to help me acheive it!

I get a lot of this stigma from my co-workers coming back after my surgery. These folks told me once a day I was taking the easy way out. Long story short one day I marched into the back and lost it for a second letting this particular person know exactly why I chose this- I gave myself a tool to ensure my success. As well as what I personally had to change about my lifestyle and explained I do everything someone who took the "hard way" does. I simply have a something to keep me on the right path. I have no shame in that. Generally when people struggle they need a hand up and the proper education to ensure their success. I haven't been ashamed in the least in the choice I've made and let people know around me what I was doing for accountability purposes and I started to regret it shortly after- once I quit brushing it off and I started getting real with people who think they know what my journey consists of I felt liberated and like maybe I had a chance to shed some light on something that I believe the majority of people don't know about.

Seen a post like this on another forum I visit. It has a fitness section. A guy asked about WLS and got th typical bro comments "it's not hard to lose weight less calories in more calories out" , don't rake the easy way out etc. I would wager 95% or more of the people who say these things have never been obese. Needing to loose 20-30 pounds in a different animal than needing to loose 150 pounds. And I'm always thinking if it was so easy to be fit wouldn't everybody be fit? No matter what we tell our selves no one wants to be obese. I never woke up and was like alright I'm 404 today kick ass. I realized if I didn't do something I might not see my kids grow up.
