  1. Hi. I had my gastric sleeve surgery awhile ago. I initially loss weight, then gained, then loss. In 2019, I really started to try to loose weight by changing my diet. My diet is a low-carb, no sugar, high protein diet. Pre surgery, I was 289 pounds. In 2019, I was 252 pounds. By mid-2020, I was 178 pounds. Since then, I haven’t lost any additional weight, but I haven’t gained any weight, either. At 178, I’m still a good 15 pounds overweight. My PCP told me not to be concerned, since I feel good and have lost a lot of weight. Has anyone plateaued above the ideal weight for their height? Have you been able to overcome the plateau to loose more weight? If so, how? Should I be satisfied with what I’ve lost and focus on maintaining my current weight? Any insight you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

How much weight loss is enough?

Thanks. The suggested weight loss suggested does not seem to be health-related. It’s based on the ideal weight for my height. My cholesterol level is low, around 150. My sugar level is fine. My dietician suggested that we test my body composition to determine my fat level. Since it took me quite a while to get to my goal, I don’t want to be “greedy”. I want to plateau at this weight, then after a sizable stable period, I’d like to see if I can loose more. 10 more pounds is not a lot to loose, but Im afraid to loose more weight only to gain more than 10 pounds back. It’s mostly a mental thing for me. It’s hard to explain, but I’d imagine that people here might be concerned with loosing more than you feel you can maintain. I’m delighted and so grateful for what I’ve accomplished so far. I guess I just want my doctor to be as happy with the result as I am.
  3. Hi. I had gastric sleeve surgery in September of 2016. I quickly lost weight and put a lot of it back on. However, in January of 2019, I changed my diet with the doctor’s help. Throughout 2019, I steadily lost weight. I am 5’8” tall. Before surgery I weighed 289 pounds. My goal was 190 pounds. That’s still a higher than average weight, but I would have been more than satisfied, considering how heavy I was. I now weight 180 pounds. I am very happy at this weight, even though I “should” weigh 165 pounds. My weight doctor and nurse practitioner want me to drop another 10 pounds. I feel some pressure to loose more weight, but I want to first successfully manage to keep steady at my new weight and not think about loosing additional weight until I’ve held this weight for about a year. Has anyone else experienced “pressure” to get to their statistical ideal weight? How much weight loss is enough? Just curious if anyone had an opinion. Thank you!

    What to eat

How long ago was your surgery? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  5. Hi. I'm about 4 weeks out from my surgery. I'll be finished with the blended food on Tuesday. Next, I can eat solid moist food. They gave me example but I wanted to know what you were able to eat 4 weeks post-op. They also told me it would be 6 months before I could have a half a sandwich or 4 ounces of steak. Is this the case for you? With the 2 week pre-op diet and the 4 weeks post-op diet, I'm starting to feel the strain of not eating small but healthy regular meals. Do you have any feedback? 6. I read a post here that contained a linked to a video demonstrating why you cannot drink immediately after eating. In the video, which used a container, and a funnel filled with applesauce, they showed that adding liquid quickly empties the stomach of food masking you hungry again. I asked my doctor about this. He said this was not the case. If you drink liquid after eating, the food will not be pushed into your intestines any quicker. The liquid will enter your stomach and have no place to go. It won't make you vomit but it will cause your.bag to increase in size. Something we do not want to happen. I thought I'd share this information with you. Eating

For me, I'm only allowed a cup of food for each meal and I have to take 30 minutes to eat it. It's really difficult to take this long to eat such a small amount of food. I take a bite of the puréed food then I have to wait a number of mi utes before Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Embrace the Stall

    Nice post. ????
  9. I've read a lot about weight loss stall and I'm well aware that they are a recurring feature of this type of weight loss. I had my surgery on September 13. For two week prior to the surgery, I was on a liquid diet, through which I lost 14 pounds. For two weeks after the surgery, I was on a THIN liquid diet. The first week, I lost 7 pounds and was very happy. The second week, I lost 2 pounds and felt discourage. I ate the same and did the same amount of walking. I've heard of people losing 30 pounds the month after surgery. Is my weight loss typical or am I am doing something wrong? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Milestone!

I had the sleeve. I thought about the band. The people on the band forum seem pretty satisfied. However, I've notice that several people on this forum had the band first. There's a slight possibility of food getting caught in the wind pipe with the band. That's one reason I didn't get the band.

    Exercise plans

Are you are a good swimmer? I've never been. I can't swim straight. I wind up swimming into the ropes. The lap at my YMCA is pretty long and I don't think I can make it from one side of the pool to the other without stopping. But I know how good swimming is for your physical conditioning. Thanks!
  12. Does anyone have a good exercise plan that has helped them loose weight and break through plateaus? My surgery was on Tuesday and I started walking a mile a day on Saturday. I plan on getting a personal trainer for one day a week and then going to the gym three days week. At the gym, I plan on walking laps, building up to 5 miles a visit. I also plan on building up to working out on the elliptical machine for an hour. I know I should weight light but I've never been good at that. I'm also looking for alternative workout methods that might be more fun and just as effective. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
