I had my surgery yesterday, and am back at home today. Question for those of you have already had an RNY... in your experience how long did the abdominal pain last?

I am doing pretty well...Got home on Sunday and I think I had trouble just trying to get the liquids down. Trying to stick to a menu so that I eat something on full liquids and not drink for 30 minutes to see if that helps.
I'm walking a lot and feel pretty good for 4 days post-op. How are you doing?

I am so sorry to hear this! I hope it is going to be an easier road from now on. My experience around the same time and the very same city was so different than yours. I am glad that you were able to stay positive!

Hi everyone! I'm sorry I haven't gotten back with you all about my surgery but things didn't go quite as well as I hoped. I got to Tijuana at about 10 am and started the testing within an hour and because I was the second surgery I didn't go back until 6pm. When I cam out of surgery I really didn't feel to bad at all. Just the normal gas pains. But things changed on day 3 when I went for the contrast ct test where you drink it while they watch it go down. I did both it and the lay down ct but I could barely keep the contrast solution down. I literally felt like I was full to the brim and liquids are supposed to flow through easily. Anyways, I started vomiting and within a few hours I was vomiting straight bile. They immediately rushed me back to the OR, cut me straight up the middle and discovered that I had a kink in my bowel. I stayed in the hospital for 7 days and just got home yesterday. Every one of the usual small incisions were extended and stitched so I look like Frankenstein, lol. But I'm back on the mend now. It really was a one in a million situation and I don't want to scare everyone. But, stuff happens and the actual Roux En Y was performed perfectly. It might take me a little longer to heal up, but nothins gonna hold me back!

Hey September Bypass Buddies,
I'm on day 3 of pre-op diet and I still don't feel well. However, I'm told that this too shall pass. My surgery is 9/11. I hope everyone is doing well.

Hi All,
Heidi again! I'm now 10 days post-op! I'm feeling really good. I have a question for those similar to me or those who are beyond my stage.
My surgeon is pretty aggressive with our timeline for introducing new foods. Week 1 -liquids, week 2- purée and some soft food (i.e. Cottage cheese, loose mashed potatoes, yogurt), week 3 soft food with not liquid during and after meals ( canned tuna, scrambled egg, 1/4 slice of toast)
I haven't really been hungry, per se, but I want to ensure I am on target with my intake of Protein and calories. I'm averaging under 200 calories and I'm trying to walk.
Question: what are others eating at this point? I have had no negative effects to anything I have tried.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Thanks!

Sipping water the first few weeks really hurts. I remember that very well. It does get better. Hang in there.

Happy to see another Disnerd getting surgery like me You should plan a victory vacation back to Disney so you can take a new pic with Tink and do a cool side by side comparison! But that's me, I'll find any excuse I can to get back to Disney World lol

I have Anthem also. I just got approval for my gastric bypass. I had to get multiple letters from my PCP and go through a checklist of tests before I could be approved.

I have Anthem and I was told 6 months with a doctor or program before they will approve surgery. I hope that I don't have any issues because they can not send in the paperwork until 1 month before surgery here in California.

Hi ladies, at least I think they're all ladies in here. My apologies if there's a guy. I am six days postop, I cannot drink the Protein Shakes at all. Even with anti-nausea medication. I do fine getting my Water in. And I can get a little bit of broth on occasion. But I am so weak. I'm supposed to be on a complete liquid diet for another 15 days.
But I've read and watched some various posts and YouTube videos that people started their soft foods in week two. I was wondering if anybody had any information on waiting for the end of week three to start soft foods or what their thoughts are on starting a little bit earlier. Since I'm not getting any nutrition except from Vitamins.< br>

So, I am just focusing on getting enough liquid in the next few days. Will reevaluate at the end of the week, because I am not itching to start puree: the only things on the list that appeal to me are runny scrambled eggs and yogurt.

Today is Sunday, and I will be discharged from the hospital in the next few hours. My surgery was on Friday morning.
I did not feel any nausea, so I was quickly moved to Clear Liquids. However, I had my brother bring me about 4oz of organic consomme I had made in days previous, and an organic herbal tea bag. The Lipton and god only knows powdered bullion they offered me does not cut it

I'm on Tuesday too. I'm so looking forward to having broth instead of Protein Drinks. I had to switch to soy Friday. Soy Protein is gross. Just getting through.
