My heart is doing well. I do have an ICD (implanted cardioverter defibrillator) to prevent it to stop beating again.

Today is my first surgerversary! I've been in a 3 month stall. With RNY, I accomplished my loss without any strenuous exercise (due to a heart condition). I'm 25lbs away from goal weight and I feel great!

9 months out from my VSG and decided to post some progress photos after its been forever. I finally stabilized my loss at around 140 pounds, 10 pounds lighter than my goal but I stopped caring about the number awhile back when people started getting on my case about losing too much.
One is from Memorial day May 2017 just before surgery and then earlier this month.
One clearly marks the timeline from August 2017 to Feb 2018,.
One is January, February and March 2018.
The last is regular new me

Good Morning!
Thanks to everyone who has posted in this thread - your willingness to be vulnerable serves as both inspiration and motivation to me. Now to my stats...
Surgery date: March 5, 2018.
Starting weight: 261
Day of surgery: 250
Week 1 (Today): 241
Brief Bio: Conquering my weight is the last step in a very long journey. I have always been a curvy girl; size 10 - 12 in my 20s, 14-16 through my 30s, 16-18 in my 40s, topping out at a size 20 at my highest weight this last year. Other than carrying the extra weight, I have been fortunate to be pretty healthy. However this past year I began experiencing pain in my knees and hips that started restricting my mobility. I have lost 50 pounds each decade through starvation (20s), exercise (30s), and diet (40s), only to regain 50+ each time.
I know why I carry the weight. It’s a shield that protects me from unwanted attention. It allows me to control who I allow in. Each time the weight would start coming off and people (men) would start to comment, i felt that loss of control. And I would revert back to my comfort zone. But no more...
I turned 50 this past Saturday and as a birthday present to myself made the decision to have gastric bypass. I am prepared to face my fears and conquer them one by one. There’s no turning back now! I am all-in!
As I am only a week in, I am still at home recovering and am therefore posting from my cell phone. Once I return to work, I will post before and after pictures as my journey unfolds. For now, I leave you with an intro photo (from my Facebook page).
Thanks
Roxine

I just want to say to the two gorgeous ladies quoted above, you do look fabulous. Congrats.
‘High blood pressure was what pushed me into surgery finally. Only 7 months later, my doc has spoken to me about low blood pressure issues! (Which I don’t have yet, but he said it could occur at goal weight.)

What I like the most is your pose in the second picture. You look fantastic, but more importantly, you look so proud and happy. That made me smile.

Things in life may not be easy or pain free. We all have things in life to overcome ..right?
I have scoliosis, arthritis and knee issues when I was heavy.... I still have the same issues now.
Compared to other people's struggles...my issues are minimal things. Yes there is pain. I reminds me I'm alive! lol I push forward anyway.
I work with a physical therapist who is also my running trainer. I train to minimize injury.
My goal is to be an old bitty that people see on a race routes! ( the photo of the 50 year old guy..I love his shirt!)

Now that surprises me. Two men that have hit on me we pretty damn smooth. Actually took me a moment to realize what had transpired. Others were just clumsy. But I never felt creeped out by the men.

The young women are not creepy about it, just blunt and forward. The women my age or older make me very uncomfortable. A confident woman is sexy, a woman who looks at you like a predator looks at prey? Uncomfortable. I've had my wife or kids come save me when a woman in the neighborhood comes around.

Figured it's time to post some damned photos. Yesterday was my one year surgiversary. Before photo is morning of surgery. I was down to 318 at the time of surgery. When I started my journey I was 354 and 336 at the start of the 2 week pre-op diet. Currently coming in at 232. Ways to go yet and things have slowed down a lot in the past few months, but I'm okay with that. My main reason for having WLS was due to chronic sciatica that was destroying my life and thankfully I feel like I have it back again. I'm not the poster child for WLS but still happy with where I've gotten to in the past year.
Btw...my after shirt is really too big on me and hate that it makes me look like I still have a huge gut. I'm not brave enough to post the shirtless photos...lol

linah reacted to karyn2018 in Post op day 2...so glad I took people’s advice on this forum!!!
I am so glad I found this forum and took people’s advice. I was scared, anxious, sad, confused before and after surgery but I already knew I was going to feel that way. Lol 😂
Best advice...
1)stay on top of pain med routines. DO NOT WAIT!!!
2) I made sure to ask for anti nausea meds prior to surgery and after. Has saved my life!!!
3) walking is going to alleviate all the built up gas...so get that ass up and walk lol 😂
4)forcing myself to stay on schedule with hydration. Whether it’s Water, popsicle, juice, Protein water, Soup. Honestly, it has helped me a whole lot.
5) my support system. It’s been an emotional rollercoaster but having family and friends that are supportive has really helped. Forget about the judge mental ones. Leave them out of this!
Just wanted to say thank you to all the people that have shared their stories and reached out to me. I am so grateful that this forum exist. It has really given me a place to feel safe!
🤪😀

linah got a reaction from Frustr8 in Bowels after surgery
I vomited some blood the first few days , this is normal due the blood in the stomach after the surgery. Blood in your stool is not normal, don't think the surgery touches any area that should put blood in your stool. Get a second opinion to be safe. Good luck.
