I find it interesting to see this topic come up so frequently. I will normally pass these by, but your concern seems genuine and not a run of the mill cry for attention.
When you were approved for surgery, did you have any comorbidities? I would wager you did not or if you did they were minor. I do not say that to downplay or belittle your situation! You may have had high blood sugar or blood pressure or something along the lines like that, but those are manageable things. I had them too! But I also had several other things going on as well. I could not lift my left leg up to walk normal. I was literally dragging it at times. My back was screaming in agony 24/7. I had a standing prescription for painkillers and muscle relaxers for the past 10 years. Can you imagine that? I didn't even have to go to my Dr's office for a renewal script of Percocet & Vicodin.
So when I had my surgery did I have those feelings of regret? Sure I did. But I also had it in my head that the trade off was going to be worth it. So in under 2 years, I went from unable to lift my own leg off the ground to doing a 230lbs deadlift. I am now able to do things that were impossible for me before. That's what I recommend you set your eyes on. Find a prize and go after it.
As a comparison example, my wife did not have any comorbidities. She was a wreck after her surgery. A seriously emotion mess. food is for her a emotional as well as cultural thing. Being Costa Rican and unable to eat carbs was enough to reduce her to a sopping wet wad of tears and over-sized clothes! Once she got past the first month and the hormones started getting under control, she has grabbed life by the horns and not looked back.
    Best of luck to you.

cbonet got a reaction from rayh in In theory, I'm getting a band in a month
I had the lap band 8 years ago and converted to the sleeve this past September. The band surgery, and the sleeve, we're very manageable. Both had pre-ob diet. I used prepared Premiere Protein both times (until it was Clear liquids only). For the Clear Liquids I used filtered Water, Crystal light and tea. It was hard but I did it. Its a lot of mental work, refocusing. The sleeve surgery has a longer recovery for both healing and diet. I had initial success with band but honestly I still yo-yoed with weight. Personally the band wasnt enough of a tool for me so I decided to do the sleeve. Good luck with your journey.

I know I will never drink carbonated drinks again! I hate diet drink so I would want regular Coke Or root beer! I would be happy with some of that "not your grandfather's root beer alcoholic beverage"! I took a sip of it and it is delicious. I was addicted to real Coke! I was told at my bariatric Center never to indulge in carbonated beverages again. But this did not hurt my feelings!

See this? This is what the staple line of your stomach looks like. If one of those ruptures or comes loose, you will have your stomach contents leaking into your abdominal cavity, causing possible sepsis. Your stomach's nerves have been cut and stapled, so the feeling isn't as sharp as it should be. Post op diet requirements aren't 'suggestions' like Weight Watchers or Jenny Craig. It's a prescription so you heal properly and don't hurt yourself. It has nothing to do with weight loss early out.
Follow your surgeons orders from here on out, please.

Not going to miss my 3 year old grand daughter asking when I am having my baby. Not the best question, especially for a GrandPa.

This is a confession, I have been married for 43 years. I know my hubby's preference of his women's sizes. I also know he will love me at whatever size I am, he has been with me thru my ups and my downs LITERALLY!!! And when he said these things I know he thought they were a joke but...here is the way it made me feel. At first, I was checking into my Panni he said, You know I wouldn't care if you wanted BREAST AUGMENTATION!!! I said, Oh so my boobs aren't big enough now! Come to find out he was talking about a breast lift. OK Then he made fun of my saggy butt, along with teasing me about how my body looks now. He said you are nothing but bones now. So I CAN NOT get these things out of my head!! I don't like him to see my body because I feel like its not something he really likes. I know it may sound silly to you. I think I had more CONFIDENCE about my body before!! SAD BUT OH SO TRUE!! You all know that once something is said it is so hard to forget!! I know I'm overreacting because this is the man who has told me MANY MANY times that he never saw any of my weight gains. He was so sweet when he said, I never noticed any of your weight because I just saw you as the day I married you!! I just wish I could get over it!! My mind just keeps playing it over and over. If he didn't love and desire me he would NOT be here. RIGHT

You aren't losing because of everything you mentioned you eat. This surgery is not a magic wand and you dont get to eat what you have before surgery.
Sorry, but you are sabotaging yourself and nobody else is to blame.

A powerful post you've written. I understand your fears- though those were never mine. I relished the thoughts of people once again seeing me, not looking past me. I'm no attention hog, but being noticed as someone in the room was certainly appealing.
I respectfully disagree with @@PorkChopExpress - in that it IS Not gradual ... Considering most people who are able to lose through diet and exercise alone take two or three times longer so it is more gradual. Losing over 100 pounds in 6 months is HUGE!!

I have kept this in my head about the WLS and the life where I was, life where I was headed. Fighting for the life I had before WG, and fighting to re-attain it. Knowing that once healthy again, I would not go gently into that good night- I would fight to live, love and experience.
If being overweight has been a lifelong experience, your journey can be one of wonder, creator of your new life, discoverer of uncharted waters, master and captain of your own ship, destiny.
I never talk about this here, but I sing with a local group. One of my favorite songs to perform has always been Wonder, by Natalie Merchant.
It always touched me, but in a different way now...listen to it. Imagine yourself. Here's the YouTube url. Think of yourself as that girl.
Never pity the girl you were- certainly mourn her- she will be gone. But, just as importantly, learn from her mistakes, from her triumphs, and then learn how to incorporate her into the new person you will become. You can slice cucumber slices thin and flavor your Water. I also use fresh mint.you can make a pitcher and refrigerate or make it in single glass. I keep a pitcher of filtered water in the fridge. I especially like it with lemon and lime slices. A you can refill the pitcher for a few days before replacing the fruits.
